Chapter 17

A/N: Let’s rewind time a bit.

I went down to the fields of our school building. To pass some time, I did some magic experiments.

Ever since last year, I’ve had this habit and because it was quite constructive, I have no intention of stopping it though.

A few minutes had passed and I suddenly heard Emilia’s voice.

“Lumina-sama.”

“Ahh, Emilia. So, how many are willing?”

“Ummm…”

“Hmmm?”

I looked at Emilia, I saw a huge amount of students lining up in the fields behind her.

“Hey, Emilia… what’s with this?”

“It’s expected to have at least this amount Lumina-sama.”

“Why!? I’m a loner than only have three… one friend in this school!”

Emilia breathed out a sigh and said:

“Though I’m happy to be called your friend, Lumina-sama. But friends and followers are different.”

“Followers?”

“Yes, followers.”

“Since when did I have followers?”

Cold sweat dripped from my head as I ask her.

“Since you arrived at this school.”

“Wait, what?”

“I was your first follower, Lumina-sama.”

“… I see.”

“You’re a smart, talented, beautiful and noble. So it’s expected to have followers.”

I wanted to retort everything that she said, but because of the stern expression she had, I wasn’t able to talk back.

“Then please step forward and tell them the reason why you gathered them here, Lumina-sama.”

“You… haaa~”

Since it was me who asked for them, I didn’t have a choice but to stand in front of them. Looking at each of them, I saw that they were lined up in neat rows and were segregated according to grade. I saw the first graders at the leftmost part of the assembly while the sixth graders were on the rightmost part.

(Ain’t this the entire student body of the general studies primary division!?)

I quickly put on my façade and faced everybody.

“As you know, we, the general studies students, have been neglected by the school ever since the principal was changed. As evidence, our teachers have been decreasing. Because of that, the only thing we’re doing here is either loaf or play around.”

Looking at the back of the lined students, I saw our sword fighting teacher, George Lancastar, standing with a frown on his face.

“A school is a place where we learn right? Especially this one, isn’t this place called Farlingstad Magic Academy? So why aren’t they teaching us? Why are they neglecting us?”

As I continued on with my speech, the feelings I bottled exploded and became entangled with my words. Feelings of anger, frustrations and jealousy became more intense as the words left my mouth.

“It’s simple and I know that everybody here knows why.”

I paused for a while and met the eyes of everybody here.

“It’s because we don’t have enough mana.”

The atmosphere became heavy when I stated the reason. Everybody here made different reactions to what I had said. Some started to cry, others showed frustration while some were apathetic.

“But!”

I loudly shouted at them to gather the attention of everybody.

“I, along with my servant Emilia, have discovered a new element that doesn’t use our own mana. Instead, it uses the mana of the surroundings. It is very easy to learn, master and develop.”

Giving Emilia a sidelong glance, she started climbing an invisible flight of stairs and shot a mana ball to the ground.

Bang*

A loud sound echoed, the earth was cracked and dust was shot in the air. I used wind magic to clear away the dust making the crater visible to them.

Everybody stared at the crater with wide eyes. Some became surprised while others became perplexed. However, in my eyes, I could see that the embers of ambition that was once dead, revive and burning with a great intensity.

I then told them about the disaster that I felt was gonna come to this school. I also told them that this disaster may or may not happen and that this was the reason why I decided to teach them this magic. It was for the preparation of this disaster.

After a while, six people that appeared to be the sons/daughters of influential nobles walked out of the line and knelt in front of me.

“I am Frank Hurstorn.”

“I am Achil Mayers.”

“I am Anthony Weinberger.”

“I am Mary Faustina.”

“I am Elizabeth Harlington.”

“I am Victoria Ginsburg.”

““““““ We are students whose family had served one of the four great houses for generations. The six of us, from this day forth, are now your servants. Please make a contract with us.””””””

(Wait, wait wait! You guys are being hasty! Your family has served one of those houses for generations! Won’t you guys get in trouble if you serve me? I mean, I’m just a daughter of a lowly noble house.)

I acted like I was checking each of them to stall for time as I thought up of a way to make them refuse me. I suddenly thought of an idea to discourage them from making rash decisions like this.

“Tell me… why should I accept people like you?”

(I should act as cold as I possibly could to shoo them away.)

Sweat dropped from their foreheads as they knelt in front of me.

(Ooh! It’s working!)

A person with blue hair and golden eyes clenched his fist and prostrated to me:

“Please accept our request, Lumina-sama. The six of us were thrown away. We were forced to enroll here by our families when they discovered that we couldn’t cast high-level magic.”

(This one’s Frank, right?)

A girl with blond hair that was styled into vertical rolls prostrated before me.

“We’ll devote our entire being to serving you. We will even make a blood oath to never betray you.”

(What was her name again?)

A man with messy red hair and fiery eyes copied the two before him and begged:

“Even if you order us to kill our family in cold blood, we’ll gladly execute it!”

(No! Don’t say stuff like that! That’s scary!)

The other three behind them also prostrated to me. I gave them my evil eye as I continued to hope that they’d refuse me. A few minutes had passed, They still showed no signs of standing up.

“Haa~”

I breathed out a heavy sigh as I gave Emilia, who stood behind me with a radiant face, a sidelong glance.

“Very well. I don’t know what you saw in me. But I’ll grant your request.”

When I declared that statement, the entire student body started chattering amongst themselves. And like the six, they prostrated before me. Even George was no exception.

(What!)

If I was able to look at my expression, I’m pretty sure that my jaws were opened wide and that my eyes were the same size as dots.

Looking behind me, I still saw Emilia giving me her most radiant smile.

I then told them what forming a contract entails. I told them that it would be irrevocable and also that they can’t choose another master besides me after this. It was because it was a self-made magic circle that lasts a lifetime. The reason why I know was because I tried to experiment with Emilia if the contract could be annulled. However we discovered that it couldn’t be cancelled. The only way for this contract to disappear is when either I or the servant die.

All of them made a resolved face and accepted what I said. It seemed like their decision wouldn’t waver.

I walked towards Emilia and complained to her for a while. Though I was surprised that she didn’t know what the ‘Noblesse Oblige’, but it was irrelevant. When I told her that I wasn’t worthy to be served, she suddenly started a very passionate speech to me. I couldn’t help but be moved by it a bit, so I decided to let them become my servants.

I stood in front of them again and like what I did when Emilia became my servant. I made a wound on one of my fingers and had it fall to the ground. I then made a null element magic circle with the fourth to the sixth grade students at the center. I didn’t include the third graders and below because they were still too young and might still change their feelings.

When the ceremony had concluded safely, I suddenly heard the sound of a branch being stepped on. I quickly glanced behind me and saw Eclara-sama with an amazed face. I was left speechless at her appearance.

(Why is Eclara-sama here?! Shouldn’t she be with her master?)

I continued to stare at her for a while when I suddenly remembered that game. It was all thanks to Eclara-sama’s appearance.

(Now I remember why the summon student and the principal were familiar… Aren’t they the characters of that game! Hehehe…. Does this mean that this is the game world!? THE F**K!!!)

A/N: I'll post the other chapter later in the afternoon.
