Carlos-sama had Vertical Rolls’ twin sisters and two other people on his side. On my side, I had Emilia, Anthony, Mary, and Victoria.
The moment they saw Mary and the others, some people that stood behind Pax-sama, Ciel-sama and Maxwell-sama’s companions became surprised. I looked at Mary and the others and found out that the three of them were wearing wry smiles as they met their gazes.
(If I remember correctly, those twins behind Carlos-sama are Vertical Rolls’ younger twin sisters. Then, those people are…. Well, not like it concerns me though.)
“Where the hell are you looking at, you shit?”
“Ah, I’m sorry. I was just thinking if it’s still okay to back out.”
Carlos-sama snorted at me and replied:
“Hmph, I’ll make quick work of you, pieces of trash.”
“Is that so?”
I tilted my head to him as Mary and the others finished forming their weapons with mana. A magic student, that was clad in wind, floated high in the sky and signaled with his hands.
“Begin!”
[Let my enemies tremble with heaven’s fury!
A bolt of lightning shot the finger he pointed at us. Anthony quickly materialized his weapon, which was a pair of gauntlets that had a lion’s head and blocked the shot.
Bolts of lightning continued to rain down upon us stirring up the dust.
“Hmph. This’ll do.”
After 20 seconds of continuous fire, Carlos-sama’s confident voice could be heard. I used a basic wind spell to disperse the dust. Emilia and Anthony ran in that instant.
“What!?”
““ Carlos-sama!””
The twins quickly stepped forward and made a barrier out of water to block Emilia and Anthony’s advance. Mary then notched her bow, which had a simple yet elegant elven design, to the limit and shot an arrow of water towards them. When the arrow came into contact with their barrier, Mary quickly controlled the magic and dispersed it.
“Urk!”
“Kyaa!”
Emilia slashed the one with a vertical roll on her left while Anthony punched the stomach of the one that had it on the right.
The two subordinates behind Carlos-sama quickly casted wind spells to soften their landing.
Emilia and Anthony quickly retreated and hid behind the wall of wind that was created by Victoria who had a green staff on her hand with a serpent’s head at the top.
“You pieces of shit!”
Carlos-sama started chanting a spell making the clouds of the sky darken.
“!”
Because I didn’t prepare a weapon beforehand, I noticed that the mana I had been concentrating was being sucked by the sky. So I quickly dispersed it and turned it into two balls and materialized it. One had the fire element while the other the water element.
Anthony jumped towards the sky and literally punched the thunderbolt without hesitation.
“What!?”
“Is this for real!?”
“How on earth….”
As I was dashing towards one of Carlos-sama’s subordinates, I overheard the reactions of some of the magic students.
When I was about 6 meters away from him, I manipulated the mana inside the two balls and had them fly towards the unsuspecting person. The balls rapidly spun around him and started freezing him. Because he managed to cast a wind barrier, he got encapsulated in ice.
“Guh!”
Emilia also had defeated one of Carlos-sama’s subordinate with the sword she carried. By the way, the sword was a broadsword that was a size smaller than the standard ones.
Carlos-sama, who noticed that he was getting cornered, used magic and started floating up. The twins who were beside him also did the same to him.
“Where the hell did you get those weapons!?”
He asked us who were on the ground with a very frustrated face.
Smiling contently at him, I replied:
“With magic of course.”
“Like hell there’s magic that can do that!”
“It’s true you know, look over there.”
I pointed at a random general student who became surprised. He was then nudged by the person next to him and started congregating mana. A few seconds later, the student made a small fireball and materialized a sword and shield.
“What!?”
“All of us can do it you know. We only learned it so that in case of a disaster, we’d be prepared.”
“Carlos-sama, I think it’s best if we get serious here.”
“Krisha’s right, Carlos-sama. If we don’t, we might be the ones who’ll lose.”
The twins who were flying beside him suggested to him. He nodded to the twins and raised his hand.
"Then, let's summon our familiars and quickly deal with these pieces of trash!"
"Yes."
The twins also did the same action as him. Three magic circles suddenly appeared above them.
“Get back, Lumina-sama!”
Hearing Mary’s shout, I sprinted back to the wind barrier. When I turned my head around to them, I saw two serpents, that were white and around 15 meters long, appear from the circles above the twins. In Carlos-sama’s place, two tigers, that had a green gemstone on their foreheads and had black and white stripes, jumped out from the magic circle and roared.
“Can we also do that?”
“I don’t know, should we try? Since we saw their magic circles we could mimic it and just maybe, something may come out. ”
Because they weren’t attacking us, I asked Emilia a question.
Victoria showed us a wry smile and said:
“We can’t do that, Lumina-sama. It’s because they are familiars. And familiar’s feed on their contractor’s mana. Because we don’t have a lot of mana, it’s basically impossible for us to summon them.”
“…. Is that so?”
“Yes.”
I hung my head in depression as my thought of summoning a beast like them was shattered.
“Now that Carlos-sama had summoned his prized beast, those general students are done for!”
“What they did before was just a fluke! There’s no way Carlos-sama will lose to them!”
The magic students around us recovered from the shock that we made and made confident smiles as they look at the two 15 meters long serpent and two 5 meters tall tiger.
“Go!”
The two tigers leaped the moment Carlos-sama gave them the order.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
“Kuh!”
Victoria groaned as she focused on maintaining the barrier. The two serpents then flew behind us and attacked the barrier.
<
Anthony noticed that they were casting magic, so he quickly created a wall of earth above us before they launched their magic.
“… Lumina-sama… I don’t know how long I can… hold this on… Quickly get away from here.”
“What about you!?”
“Don’t worry about me… “
I accepted Victoria’s resolve and started searching for an escape route. However, with two tigers at the front, two serpents behind us and a combination of lightning and water and above us, we were literally cornered.
Since we didn’t have a place to run away, an idea popped up inside of my head. As a result, a smile floated on my face.
“What are you planning, Lumina-sama.”
“It’s nothing great. I was just thinking of attacking the tiger head on.”
“…”
Emilia’s expression became shocked as she digested what I just said. But because we had no other choice, she reluctantly agreed to me. I then combined the ball of water and ball of fire together. Manipulating the magic and mana inside them, I made a sword of ice. And since we were in a tight situation, the sword didn’t have a design.
I quickly jumped between the two tigers and slashed at one of them.
Unfortunately for me, the fur they had was quite hard, so the most I could do was give them a scratch. Looking around, I found Emilia also did the same thing as me, only to yield the same results as me. Mary also followed behind her and shot arrows as she landed beside me.
The tigers who noticed us changed their targets and charged towards us. Emilia and I quickly run towards the sky while Mary flew up right behind us. I then made the floor under my feet disappear and used gravity as a momentum to stab the back of the tiger.
Mary also shot a barrage of arrows and strengthened them by having it passed through a series of mana walls. As a result, the arrows became larger and were now fit to be the ammo of a ballista.
Emilia reshaped her sword into a spear and descended towards one of the tigers. One of them saw us falling towards them and roared at us.
“What!?”
I became surprised as the thunder surrounded the tiger.
“Aaaaahh!!!”
Since I couldn’t stop my free fall, I got hit by the lightning. Emilia covered herself in mana and rescued me. The two of us then flew higher along with Mary.
“Kyaaaa!”
“Guh!”
Further away, the screams of Victoria and Anthony was heard. The barriers they made were destroyed by the constant attacks and, as a result, they were hit by water and lightning.
Since I didn’t need to chant, I made a ball of light and injected mana into it as I healed myself.
“So they could use magic too huh.”
“Who knew?”
Carlos-sama then glared at us and said:
“I won’t let you surrender!”
“Ugh…”
The twins commanded the serpents to chase after us as they started to chant. The tigers roared and started shooting lightning bolts at us. As a result, the three of us separated and dodge their attacks.
Thinking of finding a safe place to regroup, I tried flying up above the clouds. Emilia and Mary noticed and followed me.
“““ Haa… haa…”””
I looked behind us and saw that the serpents weren’t chasing after us.
“Haa… let’s review a bit… first, Carlos-sama uses lightning magic and can summon tigers that can also shoot lightning…. Second, the twins have flying serpents and I think they can also use water magic like the twins…. Though we can use null element magic, their summons is just plain cheating. This feels more like a monster fight than a magic battle.”
““ Nn…””
The two of them agreed to what I said.
“I wonder if Victoria is alright.”
“Let’s hope so…”
“What about Anthony?”
“I think he’s alright…”
I made a screen of mana and surveyed the spot where Victoria and Anthony were. We saw general students picking up their bodies and started healing them.
It seemed like they were alright. Though they had some burns on their arms and legs, none of them were life-threatening.
I then shifted the screen towards the serpents and tigers. The tree of us started thinking of countermeasures against them.
“Hmmm… Why don’t we strengthen our bodies like what Shin does?”
Mary made a suggestion to the two of us.
“Let’s not, we don’t understand the theory of how magic and mana strengthens the body. In the worst case, we may explode.”
“… then let’s not.”
An idea floated on head.
“Why don’t the three of us combine our magic?”
““ Huh?””
The two of them floated question marks as they looked at me.
“Mary will her bow to shoot arrows of water, Emilia and I will then use fire magic to turn them into ice by decreasing the energy of the molecules in the water and have the excess thermal energy gather around a ball of fire beside us. We continue doing this barrage until the fireball becomes big enough and then throw it at them.”
“What? Molecules? Thermal energy?”
Unlike Emilia, who understood what I was saying, Mary asked me what I was talking about.
“Don’t worry, all you need to do is shoot arrows at them. Emilia and I will handle the rest.”
“Uh-huh.”
Emilia went closer and asked me with a hesitant face.
“I’m only good at controlling and increasing heat, Lumina-sama. I can’t make ice by decreasing the energy of molecules like you.”
“You still don’t understand ‘thermal energy’?”
Emilia became shy and hung her her.
“Yes.”
“I see…. Then… I’ll leave controlling the fireball to you, I’ll focus on concentrating the energy I took from the arrow to there.”
“If it’s that, then I think I can manage.”
I then looked at Mary who had a confused face.
“Let’s begin our counter-attack. Let’s firm aim at the serpents then the tigers and lastly, at Carlos-sama.”
““ Yes.””
