The Great Highway Chase - Part 1

The Great Highway Chase - Part 1

Shingo’s Diary

Though the building was still intact, the Yakuza had inflicted a major devastation

on Goemon Investigations Agency.

With the Director missing and the Top Elite Agent dead, the GI was in major disarray.

However, Senior Agent Keiji Yorinaga’s quick thinking redirected the whole organization to new goals.

One was to chase Hayato’s team and eliminate them on the spot. And the other was to exterminate the whole Yakuza organization once and for all.

So, it was clear that we were on the run for our lives. Because, if we were caught, it would be the end of the line.

----------------------------------------

To save your own life, to make a run for it, sometimes the best way was to go to where the truth was, not escape the truth.

And the truth that would save lots of lives was in the Inazuma Airport. The airport was a part of Inazuma Integrated Terminals due north of Daitoshi City. That was what Hannya said before he spirited Fuwa Mizutani away.

The fastest way to reach Inazuma Integrated from the GI Headquarters downtown was through the Ganwa Inner Ring Highway. Unfortunately, the nearest entrance ramp to the highway was facing south. So, Shingo, his team, and the Skull Mask Yakuzas must go all the way southward, eastward, and northward around the city toward their destination.

So, it would be a long car chase indeed.

As Shingo’s skilled hands maneuvered Gale’s tuned car along the Ganwa Highway, the engine roared with power, propelling them forward at breakneck speed. The Skull Mask Gang, their adrenaline pumping, clung to their seats, their eyes scanning the road ahead for any sign of danger.

The chase was on. It was a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse with the relentless GI agents. Shingo’s heart raced as the GI cars closed in on them, their sirens blaring, red and blue lights casting an eerie glow on the surrounding asphalt. The tension in the car was palpable, the air thick with anticipation.

Without warning, bullets sprayed the road, shattering glass and sending debris flying. Shingo deftly swerved, utilizing the chaos to his advantage. A few gangster cars sacrificed themselves, their bodies colliding with the GI vehicles in a cacophony of metal and rubber, serving as temporary shields to protect Shingo and his comrades.

The pursuit continued, the Skull Mask Gang weaving through traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions. The highway stretched out before them, a long, straight track leading to the Nimou Kanchou Bridge. Shingo knew he had to seize this opportunity.

As the car thundered onto the bridge, Shingo activated the nitro booster, unleashing a surge of power that propelled them forward with astonishing velocity. The wind whipped through their hair, blurring their surroundings. It seemed as if time itself had slowed down as they left the GI agents in their wake.

But their respite was short-lived. Shingo’s eyes widened as he noticed a familiar GI car, driven by Nishi, gaining ground. Nishi matched their speed, her nitro booster engaged, refusing to let them escape.

The chase intensified, adrenaline coursing through Shingo’s veins. He deftly maneuvered the car, his every instinct honed by experience and determination. The scenery whizzed past in a blur as they weaved through traffic, Nishi’s car relentlessly pursuing them.

Shingo’s mind raced, searching for an escape route. The highway exit loomed ahead, a narrow ramp leading to the destination known only by his group, not the GI pursuers. With a surge of resolve, Shingo veered the car towards the exit, his companions bracing themselves for the impending impact.

The car maneuvered sharply and abruptly, their hearts in their throats as the car exited safely on the off-ramp. The pursuing GI agents were momentarily thrown off, allowing Shingo and his team a brief respite.

But the danger was far from over. The city streets stretched out before them, a labyrinth of twists and turns that offered no guarantees. Shingo gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white, as he prepared to navigate the urban jungle that lay ahead.

With a defiant glint in his eyes, Shingo pressed down on the accelerator, plunging into the chaos of the city streets. The race against time continued, and Shingo’s resolve remained unyielding.

That was because they were now only several blocks away from their true destination.

Inazuma Integrated Terminals.

Sitting in the front passenger seat in Nishi’s car, Shiori’s heart skipped a beat when the car they were chasing suddenly took a sharp slide down the Ganwa Highway exit ramp to Inazuma Integrated Terminals.

However, in anticipation of such a surprise, Nishi had slowed her car down a bit since she saw Hayato’s car slide from the middle lane to the right lane. So, when the sudden maneuver was made, Nishi just followed suit and was catching up to the target nicely.

“Look, it’s Hayato’s car again! Great driving, Nishi! We’ll catch up with them this time!” Shiori exclaimed, her heart racing with excitement.

“But now we must maintain our speed and our distance with them. We need them to reach Inazuma Airport, as Ryonoken predicted,” Nishi replied, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.

As they drew closer to the car they were chasing, Ryonoken suddenly spoke up. “But look! I think they’ve spotted us and are going to intercept us!”

Keiji scoffed at the idea. “That’s crazy! Those simple-minded Yakuzas must’ve thought we would strike them down as soon as we catch up with them!”

But his words were cut short when Team Hayato suddenly veered off into the tunnel. One man rolled out from the car and landed nicely on the road.

“Stop the car!” Keiji yelled, his voice rising in urgency.

As if in response to the warning, Gale, one of the Skull Mask thugs suddenly appeared, shaking the ground, and breaking the road, stopping the pursuing car in its track.

“Nobody messes with my friends! So I, Gale Zhao stay behind and stop you here!” he bellowed, flexing his muscles.

Shiori tried to reason with him. “Look, Gale! This is not what you think it is. Our real intention is to…”

Ryonoken cut her off. “It’s no use. Gale Zhao is the most hot-headed guy in the gang, second only to the boss, Hayato Mori.”

Nishi stepped forward, flexing her muscles in a challenge. “So, the only way he’ll listen to whatever we say is after my fists ‘tenderized’ him.”

Gale just smirked. “Whatever. At least I’m much thicker than your already tender tendons, sweetie girl. I’m on fire!”

As if to make matters worse, the Silver Skull cars came and stopped near Gale. The GI cars chasing them also joined the fray.

“Ah, so good you guys joined in,” said Gale. “Now, Silver Skulls, we attack!”
