One Step Away from Destiny - Part 2

Shingo took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. The group had taken the wrong route. They had gone to the closed-down train station and couldn’t go through the building, so they must take a detour to the entrance to take the other route.

He looked at the directory map, trying to figure out the best way to get to the airport. His plan was simple: go north to the parking lots and then west to the bus station. Next to the bus station was an interchange point between the train station, the bus station, and the airport. He checked his watch and realized he had to hurry if he wanted to make it to the interchange on time.

Suddenly, a group of people emerged from a path to Shingo’s left. From the look of them, they were a motley crew of Skull Mask Yakuza gangsters and GI agents. They must’ve entered the complex after Shingo’s group had finished fighting with Fuujin and took another route, before joining up in this spot.

Shingo watched them with a sense of unease as they got closer. He counted five people walking in the front of the group, and as they drew nearer, he recognized three of them.

The ninja in the front was Ryonoken, the legendary Shadow Dragon Ninja and Shingo’s late foster father Takashi Miura’s best friend. Shingo couldn’t believe his eyes. He hadn’t seen Ryonoken in years and had thought he was long gone.

The second person he recognized was Gale, who was supposed to be holding the GI pursuers back. Shingo couldn’t understand why Gale was with them.

As Shingo tried to make sense of it all, he noticed a figure in the back of the group. She was walking towards him, her movements graceful. It took a moment for Shingo to recognize her, but when he did, he felt a jolt of electricity surge through his body.

It was his twin sister, Shiori Amiga.

Shingo had known Shiori all his life. She was the first person he had ever known, even before his foster father. Shiori had always been able to reach out to him telepathically, but for a long time, her whispers had fallen silent. Shingo had missed her more than he could ever express.

Shiori was the person closest to him, yet they had been separated and forced to live lives that were in stark contrast with each other. Shingo was an outlaw, while Shiori was a law enforcer. After so many ordeals and a bloody conflict between the GI and the Yakuza, Shingo, and Shiori had been torn apart. But now, after all this time, they had finally crossed paths again.

The young woman’s face was etched with lines of exhaustion and fear, but when she saw her brother, she burst into tears. Shingo’s feet moved of their own accord, carrying him towards her.

“B-brother Shin!” Shiori sobbed, throwing herself into his arms. “Thank Shin Kamui, I’ve found you at last!”

Shingo hugged his sister tightly. Words failed him, his tears mingling with hers. They had been separated for so long, with no hope of ever finding each other again. And yet here they were, reunited at last.

The other members of their group watched the siblings’ embrace, their eyes filled with tears. They all knew the hardships that Shingo and Shiori had faced to get to this point, the battles they had fought, and the obstacles they had overcome. And they knew that there were even greater challenges ahead of them.

Shiori pulled back from her brother’s embrace, wiping away her tears. “I thought you were dead in the fire!” she exclaimed. “When I was told that you’re alive, I tried my telepathy to call you. But I think somebody has blocked my telepathic power.”

Shingo shook his head, a sad smile on his face. “That’s okay. The most important thing is you’re here now. I have so many things to tell you, Shio.”

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“Me too,” Shiori said, her expression growing serious. “However, we have a critical mission in hand. We fight Hannya first, catching up can come later.”

As they spoke, a familiar voice interrupted them. “Wow! Long time no see, and you’re getting much more mature than before. You amaze me, Shio!”

Shiori turned to see her friend Mariko, a smile spreading across her face. “Ah, Mari! You too. Thanks for staying by my brother’s side, keeping him safe.”

Another voice chimed in, this one belonging to Ryonoken. “And a tough life has forged you into a formidable warrior, Shingo. That’s the best way to train and strengthen yourself to face your nemesis.”

Shingo nodded, his eyes narrowing. “It’s Hannya, right?”

Ryonoken shook his head. “No. My intuition says it’s much more powerful than Hannya. It’s foreign and not from this world, but I don’t know what it is yet.”

Shingo swallowed hard, the weight of their task pressing down on him. “That’s… enlightening. By the way, are you the legendary Ninja Ryonoken?”

Ryonoken chuckled. “Yes, I’m Ryonoken, though the ‘legendary’ part is but an overstatement. I’ve been watching over you two since Miura’s death, and I chose to assist Shiori.”

Shingo bowed deeply. “Thank you for keeping my sister safe. So, are those Shiori’s friends?”

The group of strangers introduced themselves to each other one by one: Junishi Abe, an agent for the GI; Keiji Yorinaga, a GI Senior Agent; Chiyo Higashi the painter; and Hayato Mori, Head of the Silver Skull Yakuza.

Since the Yakuza had caused the disaster that had brought them all together, Hayato apologized on behalf of his organization. “It was my folly that brought disaster to the GI, and it won’t be redeemable even if I must die a thousand times over,” he said.

Keiji accepted his apology but made it clear that there was still work to be done. “Let’s have a truce for now and let’s fight Hannya’s mutant army together first. After that, we’ll sit down and talk about the best solution for both sides.”

Hayato replied, “That’s more like it.”

Then, Gale spoke up, his eyes shining with excitement. “Great! Now that we’re all acquainted, the twins are reunited, and all misunderstandings are adjusted, let’s proceed with a new plan.”

Shingo looked at Gale in surprise. “What new plan?” he asked.

Chiyo then shared the information about Fuujin, her boyfriend Raijin, and both being disciples of Hannya to Shiori’s group.

Gale grinned. “I have an idea. We should try to find out more about this Fuujin character and see if we can use her to get to Hannya.”

Shiori nodded in agreement. “That’s a good plan. But we need to be careful. We don’t know anything about this Fuujin person, and she’s likely to be very dangerous.”

Ryonoken spoke up. “I agree. We need to proceed with caution. But we also need to act quickly. Hannya is not going to wait around for us to come up with a plan.”

Keiji nodded in agreement. “That’s true. We need to move fast. And we need to work together. We can’t afford to let our differences get in the way of our mission.”

Hayato looked at Keiji, his expression serious. “I agree. We need to put our differences aside and work together to defeat Hannya. Only then we can hope to find a way to coexist peacefully.”

Shingo felt a surge of determination as he listened to the others speak. He knew that this was his chance to make a difference, to help put an end to the chaos that had engulfed his life for so long. And he was ready to do whatever it took to achieve that goal.
