Into the Lion's Den - Part 2

Shingo felt his heart racing as they entered the detention rooms on the seventh floor of the Goemon HQ. He scanned the cells, searching for any sign of Reika Diose.

“Well, this is the moment of truth,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “Let’s take a look into each cell. Maybe Reika Diose is in one of them.”

But his hopes were quickly dashed. Hayato looked at him with regret in his eyes. “I can’t find Reika anywhere,” he said. “I’m such a fool to assume that a powerful magician like her can be detained in one of these standard cells!”

Suddenly, Todo and several GI agents appeared, blocking their way to the exit. Shingo’s heart leaped into his throat.

“You…!” Hayato exclaimed.

“I’ve told you we don’t have Reika Diose here or anywhere else,” Todo said, his voice cold and menacing. “But you’ve chosen to believe in Hannya’s deceit and came attacking and infiltrating this place in broad daylight. You even killed our agents. You have violated our tolerance and exhausted our patience. Now suffer what’s coming to you!”

Hayato didn’t back down. “You and your team and squad are under arrest! Resist, and we’re authorized to kill you all on the spot!”

Shingo could feel the tension in the air, the weight of the impending battle. He knew they had to get out of there, but Todo wasn’t budging.

“You made accusations based on assumptions!” Todo sneered. “You, my ex-friend are reckless as you’re stupid. No wonder you fell for Hannya’s trick, using an ancient ghost who knows nothing! So, just stay here and rethink your folly! You’ll get a death sentence, and maybe a remission for good behavior.”

“We can’t afford to be arrested here!” Shingo shouted, his voice filled with desperation. “I’m warning you, Todo! Let us go out from here or you all die!”

Mariko looked at him with concern. “Shin! Oh no, so this is the familiar, fierce force I sensed! Please control yourself!”

But Chiyo knew better. “It’s no use. Shingo is like a wolf. Whenever he is in danger or being cornered, his fierce side rises. That’s the expression I saw when he and his friends saved me the first time we met. That’s the extreme expression that drew me to observe him, following his journeys.”

Gale chimed in, “Yes, it’s the force generated by the traumatic experience Shingo had, and I think Hannya planted it into him.”

Hayato tried to reason with Todo. “Just spare the girls, they’re just Shin’s friends helping him out. If we can’t get a straight and valid answer from you, Todo, we’ll extract it from your boss, Fuwa Mizutani!”

Todo’s response was swift. “Over my dead body! Don’t you dare touch Fuwa, wolves! That’s it, we won’t hold back either! Agents! To deal with wolves, we must be wolves too! Attack them all!” he bellowed.

Shingo, Gale, Mariko, Hayato, and Chiyo were caught in an unexpected ambush. The infiltrators found themselves surrounded, forced to engage in close combat with the highly trained GI agents.

Hayato unleashed his double claws, slicing through the air with deadly precision. Gale used his bare hands to strike with incredible speed and agility, evading the agents’ attacks with ease. Chiyo called forth her lightning magic, sending bolts of electricity surging through the air and shocking anyone in her path. Mariko’s healing magic kept the team alive, countering the injuries they sustained during the intense battle.

Shingo wielded his katana, the blade gleaming in the dim light of the hallway. He moved with grace and precision, parrying the agents’ attacks with ease. Despite their injuries, the infiltrators fought with all their might, determined to see their mission through to the end.

The agents were no pushovers, however. They were well-trained, well-equipped, and relentless in their pursuit of the infiltrators. The fighting was fierce, and the air was thick with the sound of clashing blades, thunderous impacts, and grunts of pain.

As the battle raged on, Todo and the agents eventually retreated, leaving the infiltrators battered and bruised but still standing. Shingo, Gale, Mariko, Hayato, and Chiyo were relieved to have survived the ambush, but they knew that their mission was far from over.

Shingo fell to his knees, his body shaking with exhaustion. Mariko rushed to his side, her eyes filled with tears.

“That’s what happened to Shingo,” she whispered. “A mix between the trauma Hannya caused and his rough-tough life as a Yakuza.”

The next moment, Shingo got up into a sitting position, still shaking. Hayato helped him up, saying, “Great, you recover quickly, Shingo. Now let’s move on all the way. Our target is Fuwa Mizutani.”

Chiyo facepalmed and murmured, “It turns out we’re sticking to my original plan after all.”

Shingo and his friends had fought their way through the building, leaving a trail of destruction behind them, to get to the Director’s Room on the eleventh floor.

However, it turned out that Shingo’s team was cornered by Fuwa Mizutani, the GI Director, and her team.

Fuwa sat calmly at her desk, studying Shingo and his friends with a sharp eye. She spoke in a collected manner, relishing the power she held over them.

“Let me guess. You have come this far, bringing chaos and destruction to the scions of law and order just for a girl named Reika Diose,” Fuwa said.

Hayato stepped forward, and replied, “That’s right. That’s the price you must pay for keeping my innocent girlfriend in custody. Now tell me where she is kept, or we’ll tear this place up!”

Fuwa looked unimpressed. “You, your group, and what army? Your measly squad? Just take a look outside, our agents have wiped out your Skull Mask Squad.”

Hayato rushed towards the window, and to his horror, saw that Fuwa was telling the truth. The Skull Mask squad was surrounded and trapped like wolves in the lions’ den.

“I made my point. Now surrender quietly, and you’ll only get a minimum of ten years in prison,” Fuwa said, with a hint of a smirk on her face.

Just then, Fuwa’s eyes caught Shingo’s cornered wolf grimace and sensed his fierce aura. Almost suddenly, her face turned pale.

“What’s wrong? Are you surprised that Shingo is the truest wolf among us here?” Hayato asked, noticing Fuwa’s reaction.

“He can’t die or be arrested here because he must find his twin sister,” Gale added.

Shingo’s friends had followed him into the dangerous world of the Yakuza to help him find his twin sister, Shiori, and protect him. They had no choice but to fight their way out of the building.

“Ah, so he’s Shiori’s twin brother!” Fuwa said with a hint of satisfaction. “Listen, Shingo, your sister works for us as an agent. And it was her team who wiped the Skull Mask Squad out!”

“W-what!? Tell me you’re lying, Fuwa Mizutani! No way I and Shiori are on opposite sides, it’s too much for a coincidence!” Shingo exclaimed in disbelief.

“It’s the play of destiny and fates our creator has arranged for both of you, Shingo and Shiori, to do the greatest task, greater than what you think,” Fuwa said, trying to reason with him.

“We got the same answer like, a thousand times. Words alone are not enough, so we fight our way to the truth,” Hayato Mori interjected, frustrated.

“If that’s how your primordial minds work, let’s go primordial. So, a battle is the only way we can settle this misunderstanding,” Fuwa said, a hint of a bittersweet smile on her lips.

“It’s barbaric, but it’s effective where reason isn’t working,” Hayato said, agreeing with Fuwa.

“However, it’s going to be a messy job, and I want my office suite clean. So let’s fight on the rooftop helipad. It’s more spacious there. Don’t worry, I won’t go away, by the honor of the Mizutani family and my ancestor, Mizutani Goemon.”

As a descendant of Shogun Amigaharu Munetori, Shingo Amiga should’ve recalled that Mizutani Goemon had opened the path for Munetori to rise as a Shogun with his own life.

And Goemon had been a forgotten hero until the Modern Age when historians discovered Munetori’s confession about Goemon’s merit in one of his poems and letters.

However, the street-honed wolfish rage blinded Shingo’s reason. All he had in store now is the drive to survive.

It was only suppressed by the alpha wolf, Hayato who said, “Just go ahead, Madam Director.”
