Seng's hunting ground part 1

Seng's hunting ground part 1

After a couple of days of hiking, they finally reached the rocky canyon where the Seng was rumored to have been spotted. It was a humongous canyon. From the top of the mountain, they could see the diameter of the canyon was around one kilometer. A sparsely grown forest was under the canyon.

"Wow! This really is a sight to be seen," Edward said looking at the majestic canyon.

"Yeah, it is. It was made when the humans battled against Dalai," Amala said.

"WHAT!" Doreen, Edward, and Rufus both yelled at the same time.

"This is the spot where they slew him. Eleven humans against just one grey skin. Dalai was so powerful he even ripped off the earth in two creating this canyon," Amala said while looking at the canyon.

"Gods really are amazing," Rufus said thinking one person was able to rip the earth in two creating such a large canyon.

"He was truly a powerful god, but he was a paranoid one whose actions eventually doomed his own people," Pema said to Rufus indicating that power meant nothing unless the power was in the right person's hands.

They started to descend down to the canyon down from the mountain. They tried to look for footprints of Seng while walking, but couldn't spot any. Only some rabbit and deer prints but nothing else.

They made camp in the valley waiting for the next day to find it and hunt it.

"Why wouldn't that Tashi also come and help us?" Edward complained.

"He was a firm supporter of Tenzin, but he has a duty to his own clan first and can't go helping another tribe," Amala explained.

"What if the Seng spots us?" Rufus asked.

"It is just a wild animal. It can not think as we do and it is known not to back down from its area. If it has spotted us it is waiting for us to make the first move, but we should still keep guard. It should act like any other predator, attacking when we are all asleep if it thinks it can get away with it."

Night fell. The canyon blocked all the light coming from the moon making the canyon extremely dark at night. They kept a few people always on guard and a couple of fires around the camp to discourage any creature from becoming too curious about the hunting party. The night was going peacefully until.....

"Aaaaaaaaaah!"

One of the tribesmen who were on guard duty yelled.

"What the hell was that?" Edward asked.

They kept hearing wailing sound coming from the direction where one of the guards had stayed. A trail of blood led away from his spot into the dark woods.

"We are being attacked!" Amala yelled.

Everyone woke up and prepared to battle. They ran in the direction of the stream of blood. They followed the trail and found the tribesman who was on guard duty.

"What happened?!" yelled Amala.

The Dechen tribesman who was on guard duty limped with one of his arm being ripped out towards all of them.

"I….ITS…IT'S THE SENG!" he yelled with blood dripping from his shoulder.

Soon a large paw with knife size claws came from the darkness and dragged the tribesman back out of sight into the darkness. The tribesman didn't even have time to react before he was taken away.

All of them just got a small glimpse of the Seng, but not a clear look at it. They though knew it was large and dangerous.

They all first hesitated to go after it, but Rufus was the first one to run to the dark forest where the Seng had dragged the tribesman. With torches of flame, they went after it trying to find it and possibly save the tribesmen.

After a couple of minutes of running and tracking the Seng from its tracks they only found the tribesmen. It had its throat ripped open and was lying dead on the ground.

Soon another scream was heard in the opposite direction. They ran again in the direction of the sound. On the other side of the camp, the second grey skin who was on guard duty had also its limbs ripped apart and his throat open.

"What the hell is this thing?" Doreen yelled terrified.

" I don't know. No beast hunts like this. It almost has the intelligence of an intelligent being like a grey skin or a human. It is currently hunting us trying to separate us and pick us apart from one at a time," Amala said to everyone looking around that everyone stuck together.

"Everyone together. Do not leave blind spots!" Pema shouted.

They formed a hedgehog-like formation with every angle being watched at.

"Shit. This is what it wants," Amala cursed.

"What do you mean?" Edward asked.

"It is going to keep attacking making us tired and unable to sleep. When we are tired and careless it will strike. This is more like how a hunter hunts not a mindless beast," Amala explained.

"One night is not that bad to go without sleep," said Edward and smiled.

"Yeah maybe not one, but two, three, four nights without sleep will be bad. One night without sleep slows your reaction speed and your reaction speed keeps slowing down the longer you stay up. It might do this for an entire week without slowing down once," Amala explained in a worried tone.

They realized now what kind of a beast this Seng was. Even if they had five with divine powers and skilled Dechen hunters and warriors it wouldn't matter. They had entered its hunting ground.

"It didn't even seem to be interested in eating those two it attacked," Doreen said.

"No. It knew we were after it so it decided to kill them instead of trying to eat them. One thing I can't explain is how it was able to move past us and attack the other one completely at the other side without us noticing it," Amala explained and pondered.

"So are we going to be like this through the entire night?" Edward asked in a furious voice.

"We have no choice. It is pitch black here in the canyon since even the moonlight doesn't help. It sees in the dark perfectly," Amala explained.

In the darkness, a pair of eyes looked at them all. A pair of yellow eyes. The same kind of eyes that all the grey skins had.
