Battle of river Ins part 1

Battle of river Ins part 1

The royal army appeared on the other side of the river Ins. They had followed the army for over a week and all were tired and knew that Rufus's army was close. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't spot where Rufus's army was.

The royal army had marched through bad weather with rain pouring a lot during this time of the year a lot. The rain had helped diseases spread among the army and destroyed a lot of their provisions. What made the situation even worse was that the royal army couldn't refill their provision along the way.

When the army arrived all the soldiers were tired and exhausted. They started to make camp beside the river next to the bridge. Soldiers started to unload cargo and the few provisions they had.

"My lord. According to the scouts, this is where the enemy was seen last. They must be only a day's march away," a noble said to Rikard Plangent.

"Good. There apparently are some intact villages with ample food storages up ahead. We will let the soldiers rest and send a small foraging party up ahead to gather and bring back some provisions," Rikard said and ordered the construction of a camp.

"HHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

A grey skin war horn blasted from the other side of the river. The enemy could not be spotted, but it was clear that they were close.

"Soldiers to positions! Get the men moving across the river now!" Rikard yelled.

The army stopped making the camp midway. All the soldiers thought they could get some rest, but were mistaken badly. They abandoned camp and formed into marching columns preparing to cross the river.

The large army started to cross slowly across the narrow bridge. No enemy was spotted, but the horn still was heard coming from the north. Around three-quarters of the army had crossed to the other side by now.

The royal soldiers started to organize into battle lines. They formed a square-shaped formation with all the soldiers that had crossed the river and were preparing to march north towards a muddy, small hill.

When the soldiers were in order they started to march toward the sound of the horn with the knights of the black sun at the vanguard led by Joan the sister of Edward.

More soldiers started to march across the river, but then the bridge suddenly collapsed. Rikard was stuck on the other side of the Ins river while duke Mihalh was left on the other side with one-quarter of the army.

"My lord the last of our soldiers are unable to cross," a soldier stated.

"I can see that. It doesn't matter. The enemy is ahead of us. Keep moving forward," Rikard said with a mad tone to the soldier who stated the obvious.

The soldiers kept marching forward in the direction of the horn.

"Joan, take command of the vanguard. Break the enemy at first contact," Rikard ordered his daughter into the front.

"Yes father," Joan said obediently and moved forward.

A large rainfall started making the soil muddy and slippery on the hill. The vision was bad and the royal army was still unable to even see the enemy.

The sounds of hooves started to sound close. The soldiers in the front could hear faint yells coming from up ahead. A royal soldier looked ahead trying to spot something through the thick rain. A horse galloped right at him and killed him with a spear.

The rebel cavalry attacked the front of the army. Erik led the human light cavalry and struck the front of the enemy army from the left and right. Every time the cavalry clashed they turned around doing only small damage while receiving almost non at all.

"The enemy is in front of us. Move forward!" Joan commanded the vanguard to start running forward trying to catch up to the cavalry.

The cavalry didn't fully commit to the enemy. The cavalry kept baiting them forward toward the hill.

The royal army started to climb the mountain trying to catch the enemy on the slippery slope. The royal soldiers kept falling down and just getting exhausted while climbing the hill. The rain made it hard and the cavalry was moving effortlessly and harassing the army like a mosquito that you weren't able to kill.

Joan was feeling irritating. The cavalry didn't do much damage and refused to fight the knights of the black sun.

Slowly the royal army marched the muddy hill. They were past the halfway of the hill when the cavalry disappeared into the rain.

Joan started to hear running footsteps in the distance. She then started to hear battle cries and roars.

Out of the dense rain, the grey skin warriors hit the front line of the royal army like a lightning bolt. They had laid in wait on top of the hill for an opportune time to strike.

"Kill them all!" Tashi yelled and urged his ferocious grey skin warriors to push the enemy back.
