Secrets

In the commons sector of Daimon Island, a massive house lies in front of a forest. All the lights are off as the house remains unguarded. The stormy night continues and thunder booms across the island accompanied with fierce lightning. Across the building, on a rooftop, Yuto analyzes the unguarded house.

“Shunji, I’m here. It’s just as you said, completely unguarded.”

“Good, can you find a way in?”

“Not unless you count the front door.”

“Definitely don’t count the front door… Take a look at the back of the house and tell me what you see.”

Yuto gets to a different vantage point and looks at the back of the house.

“Shunji, I see a patio with two glass doors.”

“The Jiro family is well respected and feared. No one would even think to break into their house. I’m willing to bet twenty bucks they don’t close their back door because they haven’t needed to worry about a break in.”

Yuto maneuvers his way into the backyard and in front of the glass doors. He turns the handle on one of the doors to see if it’s locked and the door opens. Yuto makes his way into the dark living room. The only source of light is the orange glow from a fireplace.

“I owe you twenty bucks.”

“Nice, a free meal!… Anyway, what do you see?”

Yuto walks around and analyzes the house. He makes his way past a kitchen and through a hallway on the left.

“Not much, just some bedrooms. I’m making my way through a hallway right now.”

“It obviously won’t be out in the open. It’ll be hidden somewhere only Shoma would know.”

As Yuto continues walking, he notices a set of stairs leading up to the second story. When he gets up the stairs, he’s met with a large space with three different rooms. Yuto randomly chooses the one in the middle and opens the door. The inside of the room is filled with different trophies and picture frames. He scrounges around the room but can’t find anything.

Yuto walks out the room and goes into the room on the left. The inside of this room contains a fancy wooden desk with a black chair along with large picture frames on the wall along with a window and a closet. Yuto once again scrounges around the room pulling out drawers and checking the closet. Right before leaving the room, Yuto fixes his gaze on a large picture of the “Trojan Horse” framed on the back wall of the room. Yuto feels around the picture and takes it down revealing a small rectangular digital safe embedded in the wall.

“Shunji, I think I found the safe. It’s digital and embedded in the wall.”

“Digital huh? I don’t suppose we’ll be able to figure out the password will we?”

“Not unless you want me to have a sleepover here.”

“Hmm… How big is it?”

“Not too big, Colt Boone said Shoma kept records. But I don’t see how all his records can be in this small safe.”

“Maybe he has just one device that records everything. In that case… Yuto, you have those small explosives right?”

“Yeah.”

“Put one of those on the keypad and detonate it. That should open it so we can see what’s inside. Be quick though, Shoma might not be there but there’s a chance Shou is.”

Yuto takes one of the mini explosives and puts it on the digital keypad. He locks it in and presses a small button in the middle. After a couple seconds, the explosive detonates and blows the safe wide open. Inside is a small rectangular device.

“Shunji, the only thing in there is some kind of small rectangular electronic device. I’m guessing it’s some kind of voice recorder.”

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

Yuto analyzes the device and sees what looks like a USB on the back of the device. He slides his thumb up the device pushing out the USB.

“Shunji, it has a USB on it.”

“Good! This has to be what we’ve been looking for...”

“DAD?”

Suddenly, Shou Jiro makes his way up the stairs wiping his eyes.

“Are you finally back? What was that noise?”

Yuto quickly closes the safe and puts the “Trojan Horse” picture frame back up. He closes the door to the room and looks around for a way out. Shou slowly makes his way to the door and knocks on it.

“Dad? Are you here?”

Shou opens the door to the room in perfect order except for the open window. He yawns as he goes to the window and closes it.

“Must’ve been the breeze or something.”

Shou leaves the room and heads back to bed. Across the house on the rooftop of a building, Yuto observes the scene watching Shou go back to bed.

“Shunji, I made it out. I’m heading back home now.”

In the basement of Shunji’s house, Shunji awaits Yuto’s return. The basement door opens and Yuto walks in with the recorder.

“Here’s the recorder, don’t know how much info is on it though.”

“I’ve seen these in the CIA before, they’re small but can hold quite a lot of recordings.”

Shunji plugs in the USB of the recorder into his computer and starts typing.

“Here we go, it’s downloading.”

After some time, a tab pops up on the computer with different links labeled by dates.

“Colt wasn’t lying Yuto, everything is on this device. Just different dates of all his meetings.”

“Good, Colt said there was a job that Shoma needed done on the same night of the ‘Red Raid’. That job was to kill a reporter and his family because he got too close to uncovering the truths about an acquaintance.”

“That’s definitely not a coincidence, that was your dad he was talking about.”

“Yeah, I’m sure of it. See if you can find the exact date of the ‘Red Raid’.”

Shunji begins scrolling through the different audio links. After a minute or so of scrolling, he sees a link labeled 02/11/2021.

“Here it is… The day Yuki and Lira were killed. Are you sure you want to see this?”

“There’s no choice, this recording can either help me find who killed my parents or who hired the killer. I have to know!”

Shunji presses the link and the recording starts playing. The voices are odd and scrambled.

“He knows too much… He’s too close to the truth. As much as I hate to say it, I need you to kill him.”

“Are you sure? It’d be different if the man wasn’t famous. But his death will catch a lot of attention. Also… There’s the history between you two.”

“Our history isn’t important, he’s dug too deep. Yuki Sasaki has to die!”

“What about his family?”

“... K-Kill them too. It’s sad but has to be done. No survivors!”

“Are you sure? Once again there’s no going back from this. I don’t care about these people but your a different case.”

“Like I said… It has to be done.”

“Alright, I’ll take half the payment now and the rest after the job is done.”

The recording ends. Yuto and Shunji exchange looks seeing what the other has to say.

“Damn it, it's encrypted! This is exactly what we need.”

“Hold on Yuto… This one is the day after the raid.”

Shunji presses on the link right below the previous recording that’s titled 02/12/2021.

“DAMN IT! I SAID EVERYONE HAD TO DIE! HOW THE HELL COULD YOUR GUYS KILL THE PARENTS BUT NOT ONE MEASLY KID!”

“Relax, they said there was an altercation. Some gray haired man saved the kid. Regardless, Yuki Sasaki is dead. The kid poses no threat.”

“YOU'D BETTER BE RIGHT ABOUT THIS!”

The recording ends.

“Can you undo the encryption?”

“No, even with all the CIA gear I have I’m not a tech wizard.”

“So all the useless gear means nothing then.”

“Well that useless gear just happens to be what I used to make your suit. And lets not forget those gadgets you have as well… Look Yuto, this is only a minor setback. We’re still on track for our goal. You can rest now and in the meantime find out how to undo the encryption.”

“You’re right. It’s just… I didn’t expect things to happen this fast. I want to end things quickly.”

“I know you do, but patience is everything. Wait, and the time will come for us to make a move again. For now get some rest, you deserve it.”

“Alright, I’ll get some rest, Shunji.”
