Changing Tides

The sun rises over Daimon Island, casting a dim light over the bleak city. Inside the DIPD, Yamato stares at the recorder and device Yuto left on his desk. He picks up the note Yuto left for him and reads it:

“This recorder has enough to take down Shoma. The smaller device is a locator beacon. When one of us presses it, it’ll point right to the other. Use it or don’t, but I’ll need your help for my goal, and you’ll need mine for Ryota and the radiation victims.”

Kenta walks up to Yamato, curious to see what he’s reading.

“What’s that?” Kenta asks.

“It’s the ‘Black Knight.’”

Suddenly, the other rookies gather around Yamato, intrigued by what he said.

“For real? This was really from him?” Kiara asks.

“I mean, it isn’t signed, but I know it’s him.”

“What does he want?” Hibiki asks.

“He left me a recorder and a note saying the recorder holds enough information to take down Shoma Jiro,” Yamato explains, carefully leaving out any mention of the locator beacon.

“WAIT, WHAT? REALLY?”

“AHH! DAMMIT, KAI, STOP YELLING!”

“Sorry, Kiara.”

“Wait. Why you? What makes him feel like he can trust you?” Ava asks.

“I wouldn’t say he trusts me, but ever since we met, he’s felt like we could both use each other to achieve our goals.”

“But why?”

“C’mon, sis, stop asking him so many questions,” Kenta says.

“Tch, I was just curious, Kenta.”

“The hell's with the attitude? I was just saying lay off.”

“For some reason, you think I’m obligated to listen to you.”

“Oh, excuuuse me! I just figured a little sister would listen to her big brother.”

“Hmm, whatever.”

“Anyway, what’s the other thing, Yamato?” Kiara asks.

“Oh, this? It’s nothing.”

Suddenly, the senior detectives barge into the room. As they walk in, Yamato quickly crumples up the note and slides it into his desk drawer, along with the locator beacon. Kiara notices Yamato’s suspicious action but keeps quiet.

“The hell was all that noise a couple of moments ago?” Senior Detective Yano asks.

“What’re y’all doing?” Senior Detective Fujimoto adds.

The rookies slowly look toward Yamato, breaking into a slight sweat. With everyone's gaze fixed on him, Yamato fills in the senior detectives on the situation.

“This is really supposed to be enough to take down Shoma?” Kiria asks.

“I don’t know. I haven’t listened to it yet.”

“Well, let’s listen to it then,” Detective Sakai says.

In the commons sector of Daimon Island, a massive house stands in front of a forest. A swarm of police cars and officers surround the building. The senior and rookie detectives stand outside as Kiria and Yamato walk toward the front door. Before they can knock, the door swings open, revealing Shou Jiro.

“WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?”

Yamato pushes Shou aside and continues walking with Kiria.

“Shut the hell up, Shou!”

Kiria and Yamato step into the living room, where Shoma Jiro sits, patiently waiting for them.

“Ah, detectives. I take it y’all have finally captured the vigilante?”

“No, we got something even better,” Kiria says.

“Which is?”

Yamato steps behind Shoma and clamps handcuffs onto his wrists.

“The hell is this? I’ve done nothing wrong.”

“We listened to the voice recordings, you bastard. You’re done.”

Yamato finishes securing the handcuffs.

“Shoma Jiro, you’re under arrest for… everything.”

Yamato and Kiria walk out of the house as Shou Jiro furiously shouts at them. The detectives and officers stand frozen, their gazes fixed on Yamato and Kiria as they quietly load Shoma into the back of the police car. The air is thick with tension. The detectives and officers comprehend the gravity of the situation.

This is not just another arrest.

This is the moment everything on the island begins to change.
