29. Walroe
----------------------------------------
As I thought about the things that have happened since I came to this world, I noticed that I felt a bit too empty. I knew my emotions aren’t exactly as before, but I am certain that they are still there. But as I started to forget these emotions I felt empty inside my soul.
Just black, all that exist inside me is reason. I do it because I want to and don’t do it because I don’t want to. Logical machine that understands emotions but can’t feel them. I didn’t know if this was a good thing or not. I just knew that sooner or later I need to figure out myself and what I’ve become.
Cutting out all sociopathic thoughts I started running. I’ve traveled for a week and I finally found a glimpse of the border. There were a few buildings and gates. I went towards them at a normal speed.
As I got near I could see two men talking to each-other. Both of them wore the same clothes. Almost similar to the ones at Silesia, but still different. They saw me and pointed their spears towards me.
“Stop there.”
I stopped.
“Are you crossing the border.” Asked one of them.
“Yes”
“Alright we need some id.”
“Here” I said as I gave them my adventure’s card.
“A gold rank?” He looked at me.
I nodded. “Is there anything else?”
“We need to check if it’s real first.” One of them said and then handed the card to the other one, who left and entered a small building.
[ Name - ???? ]
[ Level - ???? ]
[ Class - ???? ]
I didn’t know whether he had an item that could hide his level or if he was just much stronger than me. But I still complied anyway.
The other guard came back.
“Everything is good to go. You can go now, eem Leo -nidas.” He said as he read my name.
I nodded and the gates opened. What was beyond the gates wasn’t something new. It was the same as before, just land, with nothing special. I guess I’ll have to travel even more. Yikes..!
Another week of walking. I took short brakes when I wanted to eat something, and then just continued on the road.
Finally I arrived in another city. If my map is correct. Its name was ..Walroe City. At least two times bigger than Silesia for sure. And just like Silesia there were guards.
“Your ID and purpose of visit.”
One of the three guards that stood right before the gate asked. I looked around and saw that there were a lot of guards here. They were all over the wall that stood before me.
“I’m a traveler.” I said as I gave the guard the ID.
He looked at the ID and nodded while giving it back. “3 Silvers is the entrance fee, either pay or leave.
I gave him three silvers and they let me in.
The first sight on the city made me doubt myself if what I was seeing was right.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
It looked ….gloomy.
None could be seen in the streets, occasional homeless people were seen in alleys. I had a black furred cloak on me. Covering my upper body like a shadow. I moved through the alleys and found some people.
“Oi, you there, how about I give you a few pennies in return for information.” I said to them.
They had blankets covering them from head to neck, while their faces carried a gloomy aura.
Suddenly they removed their blankets and exposed their daggers.
“This is a dangerous * cough* place to be for a little brat.”
“* Cough* That’s right, how about you give us the pennies you mentioned and we will let you go.”
“You can also give us all the clothes you have, they seem expensive.”
The three continued to blabber. While I had already launched my threads at them.
So I spoke with a colder tone as my mana slightly fluctuated in the air around me.
“Okay then how about this, you tell me what I want to know and I won’t kill you.”
The almost invisible threads suddenly glowed in the dark alley.
The three of them looked at me and then they tried to move, only to fail miserably. They also noticed the threads that were all around them.
They were simply caught in a spider’s trap.
“*Cough * What do you want to * cough * know?”
I looked at them with a raised eyebrow.
“Tell me about this place, and what’s the matter with the coughs? Is that a kind of hood language?”
They looked at me weirdly and one of them spoke. “What’s there to know about this city? The virus has reached this place a year ago, the royal family promised to help us six months ago, but we haven’t heard shit.”
“This city sure is unlucky” I said.
“*Cough * It seems you’re not from around here boy, this virus isn’t spread only in this city, it’s the whole kingdom.”
“Damn, what kind of virus is this.” I was surprised at such a thing.
“Around a year ago, an unknown virus infected people, it caused so one has a hard time breathing. At extreme cases people die, even though such cases aren’t very frequent.”
This virus was way more serious then I ever thought.
“What if it’s contagious?, why did the guards even let me in?” I asked.
“This virus is kept under wraps by the kingdom’s soldiers so the people of the other kingdoms don’t know. Everyday travelers like you come around *Cough*”
That’s impossible, if half of the population of the kingdom was infected by a virus, then the other kingdoms would definitely know about it, even if the Caio Kingdom shut their borders down, I am sure there are spies of other kingdoms or those information brokers. It’s basically impossible to hide it. Yet the other kingdoms still don’t reveal this information.
There’s definitely something else going on that people of this kingdom don’t know. I’m sure of it.
So asked them something else, “Does this virus effect high leveled people?”
“From what we know * Cough * the higher the level the less the chances of even getting effected by the virus.”
“And how do you know that?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Everybody knows this. It’s because the ones who are infected are mostly commoners like us with shitty classes and low levels. While the children are the only one who have died to date, because of their lack of immunity and no levels.
I nodded and removed the threads off of them and let them go, which made them fall on the ground.
“Here! Thanks for the info”
I gave them a few silvers. I’m definitely magnanimous!
“Oh and by the way, can you tell me the directions of a guild?” I asked them, I almost forgot.
“* Cough**Cough * if you want to go to the best guild in the city, go to the tallest building you can *cough * find, if you want to go to the others you will find them near the tallest building. Said one of them while putting the silver coins in his pockets.
I nodded and left. I jumped from roof to roof.
I still couldn’t believe such a large scale virus is here. I can’t tell any difference in the air, there is no pollution, the air is rather clear and I don’t feel any different.
I removed any unnecessary thoughts and headed towards the tallest building. A building that slightly surprised me when I saw it, it looked like a skyscraper but not that tall, otherwise I would have seen it from outside the city. I went ahead and arrived right before the building.
< Soaring Guild >
A nice name. I moved closer to the door and …it opened by itself. I was shocked at the level of the technology.
Sensors?
This world might give me a lot more surprises than I though.
I entered inside and the whole place was swarming with people.
It was the first time I saw …an elf.
That’s right. There was a blondy with elf ears. He was rather close to me, so he noticed me staring.
“Oh! Hello, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a demon around there.” He said as waved his hand.
“I didn’t think I would see elves around here either.” I said back with a smile.
He chuckled. There also some people who were looking at us. I ignored them. The elf looked at me and stretched his hand.
“My name is Ynnihlas, but you can call me Ynni, nice to meet you.”
I looked at him and shook his hand.
“My name is Leonidas, nice to meet you too.”
I used [ Identify ] on him.
[ Name - Ynnihlas ]
[ Level - ???? ]
[ Class - ???? ]
It was weird. I could see his name but not the other information. But I was also hiding my information with the [ Ring Of Samael ].
He nodded and we let go of each other’s hands.
“Okay then Leonidas, I guess I’ll see you around.”
“Sure…”
