I watched as the lizard stood atop of the demon. I was anxious for what was about to happen.
But contrary to my prediction, the lizard started going towards the city. It left the demon alone.
After the lizard left, only after a few seconds later, the demon stood up and went towards the lizard as discreetly as possible.
When the demon got near it, he accelerated too fast for me to clearly see, and as it got closer to the lizard in just a second, claws made of mana formed once again on his hands.
Unluckily after the demon swayed his claws, it only managed to cut a leg, and the lizard counterattacked by launching a fiery breath, leaving no time for the demon to dodge, so it did the only thing it could, he crossed his arms and faced the impact.
The fire didn’t explode, but managed to leave burning marks on his arms, while the cloak that he had on was torn to pieces.
While the Lizard was bleeding as its cut arms weren’t regenerating not even in the slightest.
The demon took advantage. And with his claws made of mana, he stabbed in the lizard’s chin, killing it instantly.
I felt goosebumps in my entire body, as I looked at the place of battle, where the sun made it as a spotlight.
I saw the demon fall. But I knew he wasn’t dead.
I jumped down from the tree and made a thud sound.
“Let’s go there.”
I was curious how the demon looked from a small distance.
Me and Murio went ahead and arrived at the battlefield riddled with blood.
I looked at the lizard and used [ Identify ]
[ Dragon-Blood Lizard - Lv. 58 ]
I was shocked. I gulped and looked at Murio who was also in a daze. I stuttered.
“Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”
He mindlessly nodded, “I believe we’re seeing the same thing, young lord.”
I was indeed shocked that it was a dragon breed, but I also remembered what my grandpa said.
“Dragon-Blood is needed to save your sister.”
For two years I searched for dragon-blood in the market, a rarity wherever you go, it has extreme medical properties. In the previous timeline I was able get hold of dragon-blood, but it was still not able to heal my sister, after thinking of my grandfather’s words, I had come to realize that there’s something else needed, something only this demon before me has.
“What shall we do with the demon, young lord?” Murio’s voice shook me out of my thoughts. I looked at the demon and used [Time Heal]. I could see he was slowly regenerating, but If I took care of the minor injuries and a bit of the burn marks, his body would probably heal much faster.
After I used my skill, I looked at Murio and sighed.
“We’ll leave him here, this is not the place where we should meet.”
I remembered his facial features and we left the scene.
◇ ◇ ◇
We went back to the inn I was staying in Silesia. I instructed Murio to stay in Silesia and follow the demon’s movements and contact me and Remis through the family pigeons. I planned to make contact with the demon after he leaves Silesia. My grandfather’s journal doesn’t exactly tell where the demon will be heading, but sooner or later he will pass by, by the end of this or next year, that I’m sure of. And with Murio’s help it will be far easier. Murio’s abilities let him spy even against higher leveled opponents, so I’m not scared of him being caught.
I look forward for the future that’s to come. A future where Amelia is able to live her life and a future where our family is happy.…
..
Tomorrow morning me and Remis left the city and slowly started heading back to the capital, home..
I made sure that Murio did what I told him to. With no worries on my back I was free to leave.
The traveling took about a month. We didn’t stop at any city, and only took breakes to take a nap or eat.
After three months I’m finally back. It was probably the first time I left home this long.
I stepped out of the carriage and took a deep breath. It managed to draw a smile in my face. The flowers that my sister planted released an aroma which attracted my nose.
“Welcome back, young lord!” x2
I looked at the welcoming voices with a smile, “I’m back indeed.”
Paul and Anna were standing right in front of the door.
I swayed my head to the left and looked at Remis.
“Tell me everything that comes through Murio.”
“Yes, young lord.”
He bowed and left. After dealing with Remis, I looked at Anna and Paul once again.
“Prepare me a bath.”
They also left after bowing and I was left alone.
These months were rather tense times, I felt like I didn’t have enough room to breathe. But now I can be more free at the comforts of home.
I immediately entered inside and went towards my sister’s bedroom.
I hadn’t seen her in three months.
*Knock* *Knock*
“Amelia, are you awake?” I had my hand on the handle.
“Come in.” I heard a soothing but weak voice from inside.
I opened the door and entered in. I saw my sister laying on the bed.
Her black hair was still majestic even after being in such a state. And her willful blue eyes looked at me with love.
I went close to her and kneeled just in front of her bed. I took her slim hands into mines and spoke softly, “how are you feeling?”
She smiled wryly, “I’m doing alright.”
I could only bite my lip at her white lie. I was pretty sure her body was failing more and more as the days pass.
According to the previous timeline, she would fall into a coma a few months later, only to wake up only once a year.
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
She spoke again, “You don’t have to be worried Ynni, I’m not going anywhere.”
Her small hand caressed mine, which only made me want to scratch my already itchy heart.
“I know. Soon enough you’ll be back on your feet again, you just wait.” I had the most serious look I could muster to assure her.
As a reply she just smiled as her eyes started to flutter.
“You can go to sleep now.” I caressed her hair and stood up on my feet.
I watched how easily she fell asleep in a split minute. I left the room and it was Anna standing just near the door.
“The bath is ready, young lord.”
“Alright Anna”
After I took a bath and wore casual clothes, dinner was ready.
Apparently my father told Anna we could eat together. After I slipped on some clothes, I went downstairs to the dining room.
It was my father pouring red wine on two glasses. He turned his head and when he saw me he smiled, “Welcome back.”
I nodded and then asked, “what’s the occasion?”
He chuckled as his blue eyes looked at me with nostalgia, “I remember when I was your age, your grandfather would always share wine with me when I did something worth talking about in banquets. So I decided to pick up the tradition.”
I also chuckled.
“Alright then, let’s eat and drink.”
We sat down and made a toast.
“To family.”
“To family.”

Next day, my father and I were invited on a banquet by duke Kent, which served the purpose of celebrating the birthday of his daughter, Iris.
Unfortunately, my father couldn’t go because of his tight schedule these times and I was forced to go, if I didn’t, it would mean disrespecting a duke, something neither me nor my father would want.
After wearing a formal attire, I set out for the location of the banquet, the main manor of the Kent household.
When I arrived inside the magnificent manor, the place was filled with nobles of all.
I watched as the Duke escorted his daughter down the stairs.
“It seems I’m not late to the party.”
A rather annoying voice came from behind me. I immediately knew who it was. I was rather lazy to deal with such a person.
Airen, the child of the Jorgen house, which is also in the ranks of Marquis. An arrogant brat who thinks that he’s in the center of the attention.
He came forward and entered my range of sight, “What’s wrong Ynnihlas, are you afraid to look at me?” He snickered.
I finally looked at him with a bored expression, “I’d rather not waste my time looking at an idiot.”
My words seemed to anger him. He probably wanted to refute, but a powerful voice entered our ears.
It was the Duke, someone who is close to reaching the Arch-knight status. He’s also known for other various achievements.
I was curious about what he was about to say, so I focused my attention to him and so did Airen, who had no choice but to, if he did not, that would be disrespectful towards the Duke wouldn’t it?
“Thank you for coming here, my daughter’s birthday means everything to me. As a father, I‘m proud to say that my daughter is growing up to be a nation shattering beauty. A toast!”
He finished his quick speech with a chuckle and we all toasted, courtesy of the waiter coming in the last moment.
After gifting the star of the banquet a present and a bit of chatting with other nobles, I headed home.
As I arrived, Remis had some information to share with me.
“What happened.” I ask him as I sat on the couch.
A letter came tied to one of the pigeons’ back.
“What did it say?”
“The demon has apparently left Silesia, and has entered the Caio Kingdom.”
“What?”
It was too soon.. Was it because I helped him heal.
Remis just stood there, acting oblivious to my outburst.
I sighed in frustration and asked, “where is he heading to?”
“Walroe..”
I took a moment to clear my thought.
“We are heading to Walroe. Gather the fastest horses” I said to him.
He was confused, “now? But you just came back.”
“…Now.”
So we immediately started travel once again. The reason I was worried is because he wasn’t supposed to be coming to Caio so soon. If he comes now, he won’t be there to save Princess Rebecca, and I certainly am not stupid enough to go to the royal family and say that an assassination is planned on the princess’ head. I also can’t let her just die when she isn’t supposed to.
The only things mentioned on my grandfather’s journal about this topic is that the demon stumbled upon the time of the attack around the sixth month of the year 1477 around the border of Caio.
But the way it’s going now, It’ll be troublesome.
So we set immediately.
I also got some food rations and anti-sleep potions.
This way It’ll be easier to travel at maximum speed.
After two weeks, a record breaking time we arrived in Walroe.
My plan was to first try to keep him here for a month, but that was very unlikely to happen. I could tell him I’m a regressor but there’s a chance he won’t believe me and that’s a thing I want to keep to myself and use it as a last resort.
I had no way to keep him around these parts. I sent Remis to the guilds nearby at Walroe and there was nothing that would make the demon stay.
I even went to all the guilds, and lastly I visited the largest guild, the
As I expected, nothing worthy to make a plan around was there. But what surprised me was that the demon entered the guild. I didn’t show it on my face but I was greatly surprised. He was looking at me, while I had my head in another direction the moment I spotted him.
Do I go to him? Or do I not?
A sudden Idea popped on my head.
What if I make friends with him? He seems like he’s around my age.
My grandpa always said “you never know when your luck comes.”
Although it was usually used when gambling topics were discussed.
So in the end I decided to approach him.
“Oh! Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve seen a demon around here.”
He smiled, “I didn’t think I would see an elf around here either.”
I chuckled and stretched my hand, “My name is Ynnihlas, but you can call me Ynni, nice to meet you.”
He shook my hand and also introduced himself.
“My name is Leonidas, nice to meet you too.”
He was surprisingly nice. His name is Leonidas, so Leo wasn’t even his full name.
He looked at me with a bit of a glint in his blood-red eyes.
He probably tried to look into my status. But since I regressed, I made sure I always had a Identification nullifying item with me.
I nodded and then said, “okay then Leonidas, I guess I’ll see you around.”
“Sure.”
I left. Making a good first impression was necessary. I didn’t want to ruin it much.
Right now I needed a plan on what to do. I didn’t think that I would cause this kind of a butterfly effect, so I didn’t plan about such a situation.
But I always had plan Z, which also was the safest of them. Tell him about everything.
But I also don’t know him much, so befriending him is a good idea, that way I get to know him more.
Thirty minutes later, I met with Murio. He gave me some important information.
It turns out that Leonidas bought maps. Mostly general maps but there was one map which contained geographical information only about the Mayr Kingdom.
Which made sense, sooner or later he would go to Mayr Kingdom, that was true, but I didn’t know what my butterfly effect had brought.
So I was glad that Murio interrogated the map seller, otherwise I wouldn’t have known what to think.
I had already given up on finding a way to keep Leonidas occupied on this city and instead I tried to think of ways to save Princess Rebecca. And it’s not as easy as one would think at first.
The princess’ guards are all top-notch individuals and there’s nothing I can provide for security. Even if I warn them anonymously, they would just shrug it off. If I just say it to the princess face to face, she would just take me for an idiot.
But I knew there was something I could do. I had two months to figure it out. I might aswell go through every step carefully.
Since It was almost confirmed that Leonidas would sooner or later pass through the capital the next month or the other month after, I could safely return to the capital. If there’s a way I could save Princess Rebecca it’s there. Who knows, I might be able to stop the assassination to even take place. The royal family had the Mystic Cat Clan as contractors. They were a clan that took pride on speed. So Princess Rebeca was probably still on the capital, and she could arrive here in just 3 days. A truly convenient means of transportation.
The Mystic Cat Clan and the royal family had an equal partnership contract, but the cats would do anything for the royal family as long as the conditions were met.
◇ ◇ ◇
Without much of a hurry this time. We arrived in the capital only in two months. The previous ride took a toll on me and Remis. We also had Murio with us. I no longer needed him to surveil Leonidas. But as expected even he was tired after such a long mission.
The slow ride also served as a break. I just enjoyed the scenery and taking naps. I also thought of a plan to save Rebecca.
Before I went home, there was one thing I wanted to do, that was to update my adventurer’s card. I was currently an Iron ranked adventurer in level, but I was only registered as a Bronze rank.
So I went to the
“Leonidas right? It’s been awhile.”
He looked at me in surprise, “Ynnihlas? Didn’t think you’re from around here.”
I patted his shoulder as I asked.
“Haha the capital is indeed my home, but the last time I saw you, you were a long way from here, what got you here?”
He smiled, “Nothing, I was just passing by, I thought I would stay here in the capital for a bit.”
I nodded, “good, how about you stay with me, I have plenty of room in my mansion.”
He looked at me surprised, “I didn’t take you for the rich type.”
I chuckled, “Hehe, I was born Rich, what can I say.”
He thought something for a moment and then replied, “Alright then, I’ll take your offer, it’s better than sleeping at inns.”
“Alright, but just wait a bit for me, I have to get the rewards for a job well done.”
I went towards the receptionist and quickly updated my card with a quick level confirmation.
It only took about two minutes.
“All good, let’s go.”
“Where to?” He asked.
“To my home, of course.”
“Aaand that’ll be?
“Where else, the Inner Capital.” I replied
His eyes twitched,
“I hear only nobles are allowed to live in the inner capital, how come an elf is a noble in a human kingdom?”
I chuckled at his lack of knowledge, ”nothing is impossible Leo.”
I unconsciously called him Leo, I didn’t know why, but I did…
He followed me into the carriage and we left off. We spoke about tea, and finally we arrived at my home. After a serious conversation, here I am spilling the beans that I’m a regressor.
Life is so funny..
And you can only find it funny if you’ve done —something fun…
