8. Divine and Wait whaat?

At the top of the mountain, I lay there training to turn my mana into ice mana, but because of my limited movement, I couldn’t train the practical part.

I am using this state of mind, to figure out the theory of converting my regular attribute-less mana into ice mana whenever I want. To do that I need to study the Ice mana in the air very closely, to be able to change the attribute of my mana to cast Ice magic spells.

Luckily after I could sense ice mana I gained a new skill.

[ Ice Affinity - Max ]

If before I could only sense faint Ice mana, now I could sense the Ice mana that is surrounding the whole mountain around me.

A week passed since I started studying the ice mana and I finally made another breakthrough.

Now the only part left was the practical training, I couldn’t move at all, but that won’t be enough to stop me. I could still coat parts of my body with mana, so technically, I could still test if my studying of Ice mana had any effect.

Even if it didn’t, all the time I spent here, made me progress in elemental magic at a level I didn’t think I would reach without wasting months of training.

But an opportunity was presented to me, I sure as hell am going to take it.

So I started the practical side and as expected I didn’t manage to grasp it that easily, but with time everything will work out.

Eight days later.

I coated my hand with mana. Remembering Ice mana and it’s attributes, the attributes in the mana that I had in my hand started to change, to from light blue its color changed to white, I could feel its coldness, reminding me that I succeeded.

“I did it! Hahahahahaha, I’m a genius.”

My mind was metaphorically jumping in excitement, but my body didn’t change at all as I was still frozen in Ice.

“Hahaha that old bat is going to die from shock, it will be very fun to watch.”

Just then I felt something, I am moving ?

I look around and see I wasn’t frozen anymore.

“Hahaha, I got too excited and crushed the ice.”

After saying that I looked around and the ice that was around doesn’t bother me at all, I felt like we were friends that would risk our lives in the battlefield for each-other, I guessed this is the [ Ice Affinity - Max ]’s job. Now that my body is free, I can practice using Ice mana more freely.

I start with [ Mana Claw ], but instead of using regular mana I will use Ice mana to replace it.

[Mana Claw] is a skill I got by changing the shape of my mana into a claw, I practiced it for months and I got it as a skill, but before it was a skill, the amount of concentration I needed to shape my mana was a lot. When I got it as a skill, I could use it with just a thought.

This also reminds me of the amazing ring, without it I wouldn’t be able to get so much skills and would have to do everything I learned manually. It must suck to not have it.

Anyway I went back to my training. I used [Mana Claw] and started to use Ice Mana, slowly the claw of mana in my hands started to turn white and cold.

But this didn’t mean that I could create Ice, as I didn’t know any Ice magic.

Its like having the fuel, but not the machine to use it. Right now I needed a machine which. I would probably able to get tons of spells after I inherit the old bat’s inheritance, but it won’t hurt exploring a bit by yourself.

So I got another idea.

In the months that I trained back then, I gained two useful skills called [ Mana Shot ] and [ Magic Missile ]

[ Mana Shot ] allowed me to shoot a ball of mana, which exploded on impact

[ Magic Missile ] was a more compressed version of [ Mana Shot ], it compressed in my hand and shot like a beam and exploded on impact, causing a lot more damage than mana shot, but also took more mana out of me.

So I tried to do the same with these to two skills just like I did mana claw.

Instead of using attribute-less mana, I will use Ice mana.

It took me 15 minutes to change the attribute of my mana, but I still failed. The reason why I failed, even though I was successful in changing mana into ice mana, I couldn’t launch the spell, unlike the original skills [ Mana Shot ] and [ Magic Missile ] could.

I didn’t get depressed by such a small bump, bumps are supposed to happen when you have a big goal.

After I was done experimenting I took out the token that the old man gave me and injected mana into it.

Three seconds passed and a door appeared before me, it opened and an old figure appeared before my eyes.

“You sure react fast don’t you old man?

I grinned as I watched his expression.

“You! Really did it”

The old man looked at me with a happy face, which was unlike what I thought he would react like.

I guess I am forced to use my trump card.

Just as I finished my evi-cough ‘pure thoughts’.

I made a claw with Ice mana in my hand.

“W-What!! You!”

The old man was shocked when he looked at my claws and pointed his finger at me. Now this is exactly the face I wanted to see, but why am I getting cultivation vibes with that old pointing finger of his?.

“Thats right! The amazing me had already finished sensing Ice mana and immediately started training to convert my mana into Ice elemental mana.”

I say this to him with a grin as I used [Mana Coat] with Ice attributes to my hand which I was waving like I did nothing of importance. That’s right I want to see the face of despair that much.

“But how can you convert your mana so fast ? I thought I would have to teach you.”

The old man’s eyes were glued at my hands as he said.

“I got a new skill named [Ice affinity] which helped me a lot.”

“That has nothing to do with it brat, a person’s affinity won’t show in their status screen unless they completely awaken it.”

As I thought, people of this world all have a status screen, at first I thought I was the only one, but when I used [ Identify ] on the [ Middle Demonic Spider ] back then, I could see that the spider had status points that hadn’t been assigned, one of the reasons I won that battle without getting injured was because it hadn’t assigned the points and because it was in a state of madness. If normal monsters had status screens, the humans would definitely have it and the old man just confirmed it to me.

I quickly got out of my thoughts and asked him.

“If you awaken your attribute, do you get a grade of that affinity or something?”

The old man looked at me and nodded.

“Indeed brat, but why are you being so sneaky about it like you don’t have a grade, the grade of the attribute comes right after the name.”

I scratched the back of my head as I tried to find an excuse “Ah- about th-“

“I know you don’t trust me much brat, but I am more harmless than you think, you see.. I am already dead.

“What??” I was shocked at the turn of events.

The old man chuckled as he looked at me and continued. “What you are seeing now is only a remnant of my body and soul, that I made incase I didn’t find a successor in time, my main body and most of my soul is already gone, there is no hope for me.”

After he finished, I look at him and said.

“Damn! ….You just made me regret calling you old bat”

Let’s just say that my kind words didn’t get through to him and got a punch in the head.

After he hit my precious head he grabbed my collar and threw me at the door. The coordinates ‘accidentally’ changed and I found myself falling face first.

“What was that about?” I look toward the old man that was pouring tea in his teacup.

“What was- what?” He looked at me innocently.

Sigh

I sight as I look at the petty old man. Receiving the tea from him, I ask.

“How many grades of affinity are there?

There are six grades”

He calmly said as he sipped his tea. I got irritated at his lack of information and as I was about to ask him about them, he continued.

“Low, Middle, High, Exceptional, Max and lastly.. Divine. There hasn’t been a Divine grade affinity since the ‘Era of Heroes’, and the grade of my Ice affinity before the Crow Ice Magic inheritance was Exceptional which became Max after I succeeded my master.”

I processed the information very fast and looked at him. “If one has Max affinity, what happens after the inheritance succession?”

The old man’s eyes opened slightly and looked at me. “have yo-“

“Yes, I have indeed awakened a Max grade Ice affinity.”

I cut him off and replied to his (would be) question.

Crack

The cup that he was drinking broke as he overcharged the cup with his mana. After seeing what he had done he began laughing like a crazy maniac.

“Hahahaha, finally, I Matock Spellfinden, have found a Divine Talent that can contend with the Divine Heroes of old.”

Okay, he has officially gone crazy..

“You also mentioned it earlier, heroes!, what does that mean.”

I ask, as I interrupt his crazy laughter. Which in return, he gave me a disappointed look in his eyes. And as If getting an enlightenment he looked at me and spoke. “From now on you are going to read every single book in this little library”

“….you are joking right?, what about the succession?”

“I’ll prepare the succession ritual, while you gain knowledge, no successor of mine will enter the society I am from without the knowledge required!.”

He looked at me and replied.

“Society? I thought others feared demons?” I looked at him and asked instinctively.

“Fear? What are you talking about?”

He looked at me puzzled and continued.

“These memories that you said were implanted on you, are they telling you that humans fear demons?”

“Y—, No?” I gulped.

“Look brat, although most of the demons you have seen are indeed mindless, but all of the other parts of the continent are filled with intelligent demons, what you have traveled is only a little part of the Hellzarr Continent.”

He stopped for a bit to sip his new teacup that appeared from nowhere and continued

“There are a dozen of kingdoms in Helzarr’s continent that have demons as its hierarchy. There is also the Avalon continent which is where I come from and where the Heroes of old were summoned.

In the past Avalon and Hellzarr indeed didn’t have the best relationship but when the Heroes of Old were summoned, they befriended the demons and then started the battle against the enemies, billions of lives were lost in the wars that happened, reforming the terrain of the two continents to what we know as Hellzarr and Avalon.”

“Did this terrain reformation leave the barren lands out haha” I joked.

“That’s indeed somewhat right, the [ Dryads ] and the [ Druids ] with the help of the heroes, were able to restore the life of these two continents but the place that is now known as barren lands were too far gone and they couldn’t save it, which now is a place of mindless monsters and my dungeon.”

Kowai, This battle was too scary. I forgot one thing though.

“Ah I see, but who was this enemy that the demons and heroes were battling, The Demon God?” I asked him sarcastically.

“Demon God? No….

…… it was the Angels”

He looked confused at my sarcasm as he answered.

“Oh I see” I nodded.

“……Wait whaaaaaaaaaat?”
