As they left the town hall Kit glanced around Spartan Fire to see if he could notice anything different after the promotion to a small village. To Kit’s disappointment nothing had changed. He turned back to look at the town hall.
His eyes went wide at the spectacular display the golden rain created. Soft golden shimmers floated down around the town hall making it a magical sight. Kit was stunned to a frozen state, gawping at the sight.
Kit was jolted out of his daze by a tap to the shoulder.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” Grandpa had tears in his eyes again.
“Yes, it really is beautiful.”
Grandpa stomach rumbled at that moment. “Kit my boy, I think I need to fill my tummy. Let’s go I’ll come back later to stare at the golden rain. I have a feeling it will continue for a while.”
Kit agreed, then they all continued over to Kit’s restaurant. They arrived at the restaurant to find Snickers, Leonard and Clive waiting for them.
“Kit what was with the golden rain at the town hall? We could see it from here. What did you do? Is it something good or bad?”
Snickers shot her questions out fast. Kit was amused by her eagerness to find out answers. “Snickers we will fill everyone in in a moment. Let’s get some dinner for everyone first.”
When Kit came out of the kitchen. Two tables had been pulled together to make discussion easier. Kit handed out the meals then took the seat left for him.
“Kit what is this? It smells amazing. But where is the rest of it?” Mars was looking at the soup as if he was going to swallow it whole.
Kit smiled at the hungry look in his eyes. “This is called Red blooming Purple tail turtle soup. It’s an entrée, so it is supposed to be a small amount Mars.”
Mars looked at Kit like he had taken away all his favourite toys. Kit laughed at the silly look on Mars face. “Don’t worry Mars there is another course after you finish the soup.”
“Ahh that’s right you told me you made three new dishes today. Then will there also be dessert?”
Kit wasn’t sure what the Lucky sticky apple pie tasted like. He had been too scared to taste it after having experienced the spiritual moon juice magic side effect from being poor quality. The apple pie was of poor quality as well and had received a bad quality bonus with a negative side effect.
Kit hesitated to tell Mars about the pie. He wanted someone to be a guineapig for him. He looked at Mars then decided he couldn’t deceive him. Hopefully someone would volunteer to eat the pie.
“Well, there is a little problem with the dessert. But I am curious about the stats it produced.”
All eyes around the table turned to Kit.
“What are the stats Kit?” Mars looked at Kit with curious expression.
Kit decided to deal with the pie issue by making it mysterious to illicit curiosity about the pie. Hopefully one of them would become overwhelmed with desire to learn what the stats were. Then he could feed the poisoned pie to the unsuspecting person and gain an idea of what the side effect would be.
“Well, I will only tell you after someone volunteers to taste it. All I will tell you is that I have never seen the stat it produced before. Plus, I think whoever eats the pie will be very happy after the side effect subside.”
Kit gave them all a big grin. Then tucked into his soup.
“Ahh, Kit you can’t leave us in suspense like this. Come on tell us.” Twix looked at Kit with a pleading face.
“Nope, I need a volunteer first.” Kit continued to slurp his soup with a happy feeling. He was sure one of them would break soon.
“Seriously it’s just a pie. Kit, I am the official taste tester, so I will try the pie.” Snickers snorted then tucked into her soup.
Kit was surprised Snickers was the one to volunteer. Then he remembered she hadn’t tried the spiritual moon juice magic. Kit started to chuckle.
“Thanks Snickers.”
“So, what are the stats Kit?” Grandpa grunted between a mouthful of soup.
“I can’t ruin the surprise. Once Snickers try’s it I’ll share the stats.”
As Kit finished his soup, he looked at Grandpa. Kit realised he was now learning how to become sly. The old man was definitely rubbing off on him. Kit got up and collected the dirty bowls. Each face had a look of satisfaction after eating the soup. Kit was pleased with the success of the soup.
Kit came back from the kitchen with the pasta. After everyone had a plate, he sat down.
“Kit this is?” Grandpa stopped talking to take a deep breath in. A huge smile appeared on his face after he smelt the food.

“Haha, this is all the crustations we caught, right?”
“Yes, it’s called Red velvet lake pasta. Quick take a bite and tell me what you think.”
Grandpa hummed with delight as he chewed. “Kit my boy, I will tell you this now. If you ever try to leave I will lock you inside the restaurant never to see the outside again.”
Kit laughed at the old man’s silly complement.
“Haha just kidding. This is the best meal so far. I knew my favourite spot would make the best meal.”
As they all ate, appreciative sounds filled Kits ears and a feeling of pride at his creations swelled inside. He loved this sense of satisfaction he got from watching the others eat.
As the pasta disappeared off the plates, Mars filled the others in on what had happened and what was needed for the next promotion.
“Why do we need a cemetery though? It’s strange that it was one of the requirements to promote the town.” Clive had his eyebrows scrunched in puzzlement as he talked.
“I can answer that question. Having a place to go visit the deceased to pay respects is important for any village. It will also be where the respawn arch will be built. The arch needs to be attached to a cemetery to function. Not sure why, that’s all I know.”
Grandpa’s answer surprised Kit. He couldn’t remember if he had seen a cemetery next to the two respawn gates he had already visited.
Then again, he had to many other things to take in at the time he was at them. So, he wasn’t surprised he couldn’t remember this aspect. If they needed a cemetery before they could build the respawn arch then that would increase the amount of Spartan Fire points they would need to collect.
Kit made a mental note to check how many points a cemetery would need to purchase. He wanted to know what the new gaol was. Silence had descended on the group as they finished the pasta. When the plates were clean Snickers took them to the kitchen. She then returned and looked straight at Kit.
“Ok Kit let me see this pie.”
Kit took out a slice of the Lucky sticky apple pie. Steam rose from the portion of pie. Kit loved how his pouch kept everything fresh like the time freeze storage shelf. Snickers eyed the pie with curiosity then picked up the pie and took a big bite.
All the eyes on the table focused on her face. Snickers faces soon changed from a normal expression to one of revulsion. Kit could see she was about to spit it out.
“DON’T SPIT IT OUT.”
Snickers jolted and swallowed the pie.
“What the hell Kit. This tastes awful. Why would you make a pie like this.”
Snickers suddenly grabbed her stomach and groaned. Next to her Leonard started to panic.
“Snoo Snoo, what’s wrong?”
Leonard shot Kit a scathing look. A grunt from Snickers soon returned his eyes to her.
“My little lamb. How can I help?”
Leonard hovered around Snickers in a flap. Then he turned to Kit once again.
“What the hell did you do to her? Did you poison her?”
Kit sucked his lip between his teeth. ‘How do I say I actually did poison her without getting killed?’ An image of Leonard strangling him passed through his mind. Kit decided on the spot in the future Snickers would no longer be allowed to be the official taste tester for dubious food.
“Leonard here is the thing.”
“WHAT THING. DID YOU ACTUALLY POISION HER?”
“Leonard I need you to stay calm ok? It won’t last long, but yes, I might have poisoned her.”
As the words left Kits mouth Leonard roared and leapt on the table. He big hands reached towards Kit’s neck. Kit jolted himself backwards and fell on the ground. His eyes automatically returned to Leonard. Kit felt his impending death at the sight in front of him.
Leonard had pulled a giant axe from somewhere and his eyes had turned red. Mayhem descended in the room at that moment. Yells and weapons erupted around the room. Kit felt fear grip his chest. He watched as Leonard lifted the axe and jumped towards him. He could tell no one would be fast enough to stop the hulking man.
Kit felt his heart stop. As Kit watched his death get closer pink fog surrounded Leonard and he disappeared.
Kit blinked. Then looked down at his trembling hands. How was he still alive? Kit stared around the room with a blank look to see similar perplexed gazes from the rest of the room. A sweet soft voice broke the silence of the room.
“What a pain. Kit in the future can you give me a heads up before you poison me. Leonard is a pain in the arse to deal with when he gets worked up.”
Snickers sighed and flipped her green hair. Kit could only blink he was still trying to process the fact that he was still alive.
“You will owe me big time for this Kit.” Snickers looked at him with gleeful eyes.
“Sure Snickers, as long as Leonard doesn’t try to kill me when he gets back.”
Kit felt a shiver of fear pass over him at the image of Leonards red eyes. He would happily owe Snickers if she could stop Leonard from killing him.
“Deal. By the way the pie is amazing. It will surely be a big hit in the future when you can sell it.”
Kit grinned at Snickers words then he frowned. ‘How had she dispelled the poison so quickly?’ He decided to ask her.
“Kit please, if I had known from the start then I wouldn’t be poisoned at all. Next time tell me first so I can counter it beforehand.”
Kit continued to frown, then he remembered that Snickers was over 500 years old. Of course she would have a way to stop the poisoning. He felt stupid for not telling her about it before hand. He was lucky she was not the one trying to kill him. With that thought Kit decided to apologise to her right away.
“Sorry Snickers I promise to always tell you about the side effect straight away from now on.” Kit gave Snickers as solemn a look as he could possibly manage. Kit heard tinkles of laughter leave her mouth.
“Look at you being so scared. Did you just remember how old I am?”
Kit could only nod his head. He felt lucky she was finding this amusing instead of being angry.
“Good, don’t forget in the future, or next time I will not be so nice.” Snickers gave Kit a creepy grin. Kit instantly became terrified. He found her scarier than Leonard and his red eyes. ‘Note to self don’t anger Snickers.’
Kit heard a scraping of a chair as the room was being returned to its previous state. Mars came over to help him up from the floor. “Ok now that is settled can you share the stats with us now. We are all dying of curiosity.”
Kit got up and was amazed at how calm everyone was now that Leonard was gone. Kit still had a bit of adrenalin running around his body from the fright. He blew out a breath to help calm himself down. He then shared the stats to the rest of the room.
“Bloody hell! Kit this is fantastic. Do you know how hard it is to find something with Luck?” Grandpa started to laugh with delight.
“Who could tell that the day you turned up here is the best thing to happen to Spartan Fire. With this we will have no problem attracting residents.” A maniacal twinkle emerged in Grandpa’s eyes.
Kit began to suspect Grandpa was starting to cook up another one of his plots. Kit could only sigh, he would have to wait to see what the outcome of that look was. He knew the old man kept his plans to himself.
With the table settled conversation flowed about tomorrows plans. When Grandpa brought up going back to Red velvet lake Kit told him about needing to stay in town to finalise things before Mars and he had to leave. The whole table stilled at those words.
“What do you mean you will be leaving for six days?” Grandpa had a look of disbelief on his face as he spoke.
