Kit froze at the sight in front of him, at the entrance of the boarding house a standoff occurred between the Midnight guardians and the tiny pastel blue Piabbits. The large panthers’ hair was standing on end and their tails were puffed up like a feather duster.
The Piabbits’ skin had changed from pastel blue to having a fine coating of white crystals covering their body. White mist was forced out of their tiny nostrils with each exhale of breath. Snarls, squeals, and grunts sent shivers of fear down Kit’s spine.
Damn it! If these crazy animals fought in the entrance, the boarding house would be toast! Kit frantically looked around for Snowball so that he could settle this dispute before it erupted into a fight.
Horror flooded his system when he couldn’t see a trace of his companion. As he was about to start panicking Mars and Twix rushed into the entrance from the opposite side from Kit.
Comical expressions of surprise mirrored on the newcomers faces. If he wasn’t so worried, he would be laughing at their expressions.
“What is going on Kit?” Twix voice revealed his own anxiety at the situation.
“I don’t know! I ran here like you as soon as I heard the commotion.” Just as Kit was distracted by staring at his friends, the fight he had wanted to avoid kicked off. Frozen shards began to fly around the enclosed space and black claws descended, Kit’s eyes dilated as adrenalin surged.
“Run!” Kit sprinted back they way he had come and took the long way into the kitchen. There was nothing any of them could do to stop the fight, the midnight guardians and Piabbits were well above a level they could contain.
All Kit could think about as he ran was telling the others to hide. The only way out of the boarding house was currently blocked by those crazy animals and the only space that could be blocked off was the bedrooms.
These thoughts swirled in his head as he rounded the corner and ran into his fleeing employees. He quickly halted his strides, “Quick get into your rooms and barricade the door!” Now that he knew no-one was left in the kitchen, relief rushed over him.
Kit hightailed it to his room just like the others. Slamming doors sounded behind him warring with the sounds from the intense struggle at the front of the boarding house. Kit burst through his bedroom door then joined in the slamming spree.
He leaned his back against his closed door and heaved in deep breaths. In between the sounds of chaotic fighting, loud yelps started to penetrate through the noise. All Kit could think of right now was that he hoped that those crazy animals didn’t break down a bedroom door.
Because he couldn’t see the fight he decided that listening would be the next best thing so he pressed his ear against the door. Through the barrier he could hear breaking glass and smashing along with the thuds and screeches.
As he continued to listen to the fight, snarls intensified and ripped through the air accompanied by grunts and squeals. He winced at each noise, damn it, he was trying to save money right now! Each time something broke he felt money was leaking from his pouch. He was definitely going to ban Snowball from bringing anymore creatures back home!
As Kit had that thought a deafening silence filled the boarding house. Then a single snarl emerged, and whimpers followed. Kit could tell the snarl belonged to Snowball, he slowly opened his bedroom door and stuck his head out.
When nothing flew his way, he made his way out of his room. As he walked down the hall his jaw dropped. The fight had gone on for five minutes at the most, but the boarding house looked like it had been hit by a bomb. He had expected some damage, but not at this magnitude!
Sections of walls were missing and the glass surrounding the courtyard was shattered. Frost covered the ground he walked on, Kit had to be careful not to fall on the slippery surface. He looked down at his feet to see frozen shards covering the ground. Mixed in with the shards were tiny crystal fragments and clumps of black fur.
When he made it into the kitchen Kit became furious. The whole kitchen would need to be replaced! He turned to see the culprits of the destruction gathered around Snowball with their heads hanging down. Soft whimpers could be heard coming from the panthers and pigs.
Kit fury rose as he looked at the now docile animals. “All of you out! You are banned from coming into the boarding house from now on!” Kit couldn’t hold his temper. He felt he could let it out now that Snowball was here, he knew it sounded cowardly, but he was no match for any of those creatures!
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
All eyes in the room snapped up and centred on Kit at his words. Snowball trotted over to his side and started to whimper. “Not you Snowball, you are always welcome where I am.” A piercing headache started to form in his temples at the thought of cleaning up the mess.
Damn it! He had been having the best day before this happened! A sound coming down the hall drew his attention, Mars came into focus as he rounded the corner. A whistle left his lips as he came over. “Looks like someone is in trouble! I honestly didn’t think it would be this bad.”
“I know, how the hell did they make such a mess in so short amount of time.” Kit flung a furious gaze at the culprits. “You are all going to have to think of a way to pay for all the damage!” Black and blue heads turned and avoided his eyes.
“Don’t pretend like you can’t understand me, I know you can! I’m holding Snowball hostage until you lot sort out how to pay me back!” Heads snapped back to Kit once again. If he was not mad, he really would find their reactions entertaining.
Chattering sounds immediately started coming from the midnight guardians after Kit spoke. Then one of the cats dashed off out into the night through one of the holes in the wall. Kit rubbed his temple as he looked at the hole.
Right now, he didn’t want to look at any of the offenders of the destruction. “OUT NOW!” Kit pointed at the hole right in front of him and watched as the culprits slunk outside. He bent down to pick up his fluffy little troublemaker.
“Snowball, I know you like all those animals but if they can’t get along then they must go. We were all lucky to escape tonight without any accidents.” Kit looked at Snowball to see if he understood. When the little dog’s eyes dropped and a soft whine emerged from his mouth, it pricked Kit’s heart. “Ok, don’t get sad, we can have a chat with Bai yue tomorrow and sort this out.”
Ah he really was a sucker for Snowball’s sad face. In the span of a couple of seconds he had already changed his tune from the animals must go, to finding a mediator so they could stay. Why did his companion have to be so flaming cute!
A soft fluttering next to his ear caught his attention, he turned his head to see a clean sprite hovering near his shoulder. The first smile since this fiasco started spread on his lips. He wouldn’t have to clean up the mess!
Kit turned his big smile to the clean sprite next to his shoulder. “They have gone and won’t come back tonight, it is safe to start cleaning.” Lyrical chattering flowed from the clean sprite’s mouth then it took off in a flash.
He happily watched as all the clean sprites magically cleaned up the mess right before his eyes. In no time at all the only evidence that a fight had taken place was the holes in the wall and the missing items that had been destroyed.
As he was surveying the damage a glittering caught his eyes. A frown pulled his brows, and he walked over to see what the sparkling item was. He bent down and his fingers touched a cold hard fragment of crystal.
Kit’s eyes started to shine when it registered what he was now holding in his hand. It was a piece of crystal that had dropped from one of the Piabbits. This meant that this was a shard from a spiritual beast!
Delighted laughter left his mouth, then he swung around to show his finding to his friend. “Mars, look what I found!” Mars walked over and stared at the tiny crystal fragment in his palm. “We need to see if there are anymore of them on the ground.” Kit could hear the greed in his voice as he spoke.
Mars squinted his eyes at Kit, then looked at the shard once again. Kit could see the wheels turning in Mars’ head as he was trying to figure out why Kit was so excited over the tiny fragment. Kit knew Mars would get its importance. Mars had been with him when they collected the crystal shards from the white bear in Bai yue’s realm.
“Oh, it’s one of those!” A twinkle ignited in Mars eyes, then he started to roam his gaze over the floor. “Kit don’t waste time! What if the clean sprites get rid of them all!” After the words left his mouth Mars turned back to Kit with a confused expression. “Wait, why did they not take away the shards when they cleaned?”
Kit shrugged his shoulders, he had no clue either. “We can only find out if we get Mud to talk to them. I can’t understand their language.” Kit ignored the fact that the shards had been left alone by the clean sprites. He was too excited about getting his hands on some spiritual beast shards!
Mars and Kit didn’t waste any time collecting the fragments. The entrance to the boarding house had the most scattering of the crystals. By the time they were finished Kit had a healthy number of glittering crystals to experiment with.
Now that he had spiritual beast shards all his earlier anger at the animals starting a fight had disappeared. With the spiritual shards tucked safely in his pouch weariness consumed him once again.
He bid goodnight to Mars, he would deal with the rest of the damage to the boarding house in the morning. When walked down the hall to his room, numerous heads poked out of bedroom doors. “Kit is it safe to come out?” Charlotte was darting wary eyes around the quite hall.
Kit slapped his head with a palm, he had forgotten to inform the others that it was now safe. He had been too consumed with collecting the shards to even think of alleviating everyone’s anxiety. “Ah, yes Charlotte it is safe for now. I’ve sent the animals away for the night. I will have a serious talk with them tomorrow so something like this doesn’t happen again.”
A relieved breath escaped her mouth, the others expressions also eased up after hearing Kit’s words. “That’s good, then I think I will head in for the night. That was too much excitement for me.” Her head disappeared back into her room and the door shut quietly.
The rest of his employees bid him good night as well. Kit looked down at Snowball who had been following him the whole time in silence. “Come on buddy, let’s get some sleep.” As soon as Kit’s head hit the pillow he was out for the night.
