124. That’s where thing’s become murky

As Kit was festering about being called an idiot, his mind went over her words. What was so special about a new building? Then when the light turned on in his brain, he made an oh shape with his mouth. Fucking hell, a hidden blueprint! That would mean there was something special about the building!

Kit had heard about some of these hidden building before from Mars. The hidden buildings all had special features and unique designs. There was only one of each special building in CAL, even if the building were the same kind, for instance a library, each library would have different characteristics and functions.

Libraries where the reason Kit knew about the hidden buildings, it had been brought up in conversation because Mars wanted to visit a couple of the hidden blueprints that had been found and established. Mars wanted to go and look for some rare books for his father inside, apparently hidden buildings had more of a chance of having unique books inside.

They had discussed going together in the future, Mars would go to libraries and Kit would visit different restaurants. This of course was far into the future when Kit’s restaurant was more stable and he could leave for a long period of time.

A thumping in his chest let Kit know how this news affected him. He couldn’t wait to hear more about this rumour from Snickers. Damn it, he really was an idiot sometimes!

Snickers taped a finger on the side of her head. “I see you figured it out. Now calm your beating heart, I told you not to get too excited about it. It is only a rumour, I just thought it would be worth exploring at least.” Snickers was admonishing him, but her face told a different story, her eyes were bright and sparkling and a wide smile was on her face.

Kit could tell she was just as excited about this gossip as he was. “Snickers where do we need to go!” Kit would shut up his restaurant right now so he could leave. They were talking about a hidden restaurant blueprint for god’s sake!

“That’s where thing’s become murky. I was only able to gain a vague answer for where the blueprint is assumed to be. The most information I could gather is that it is somewhere in the Forsaken state. I’m going to send Leonard out on a scouting mission to find more details.”

Murky! How is that just murky! The Forsaken state is so fucking large, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Why tell him something like this if there was no solid prof. “Snickers did you just tell me that to distract me from being disappointed about the additions not being able to be built. How can I get excited by that sort of rumour, the bloody restaurant blueprint could literally be anywhere!”

Kit ran a frustrated hand through his hair. “Just show me the cellar, then I will open the restaurant for the day.” Kit felt tired all of a sudden, when he woke up this morning, he had been expecting to have a wonderful surprised filled day. Now he just wanted to go back to bed and sulk.

“Kit! I want this hidden blueprint, so I will get it! So, get fucking excited!” Snickers stomped her small foot and pouted her lips. Kit was taken back at her actions, what the hell was going on this morning. She told him not to get excited before she even told him about the blueprint, now she was throwing a tantrum because he didn’t share her enthusiasm.

A weird laugh left his mouth, this day wasn’t going at all to plan. Snickers was narrowing her eyes at him, Kit swallowed his laugh, he didn’t want to go back onto her shit list. “Ok if you want it then we shall get it.” Kit decided that it was best to agree, it didn’t cost him anything and it would keep him out of trouble. Besides it wasn’t like he had to contribute to gathering information.

Snickers seemed happy now that he agreed. “Great now that’s settled, let’s get on with the tour!” With his consent given she turned on her heels and headed down the steps towards the cellar. “I know you are not overly excited about this room, but I am. This room will store all the beautiful alcohol you are going to create!” Snickers looked like a kid heading into a candy store as she bounced enthusiastically down the steps.

Kit stopped for a moment before he followed. He needed to get his thoughts together, he had been on a rollercoaster since he arrived. This restaurant was his baby, he wanted to feel the excitement for each new addition, not disappointment.

He threw the thoughts of the restaurant blueprints, the bar and shop in a shop at the back of his mind, then took a deep breath. A foot lifted and he forced a smile on his face, then followed Snickers down the stairs.

The first thing Kit noticed as he descended was the change in temperature. A few goose bumps appeared on his arms, it wasn’t enough to send a chill down his spine but the change was still dramatic to the upstairs environment.

Kit’s eyes went wide when the room came into view, it was larger than he thought it would be. It was the same size as his restaurant above. He thought it would be the same as the storage facility he received, a small room added on to the pre-existing framework.

Kit realised right then that although there were many different blueprints, they were not all the same grade. He wondered if this blueprint was actually classed as rare. The more he looked around the more he felt he was right.

Empty wine racks dominated the middle of the large space, lining the walls were shelves with barrel stands neatly lined in a row. The wood used was a deep mahogany and shined with a glossy finish, Kit couldn’t help walking over to feel the smooth surface.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The amount of alcohol he could store in this room blew Kit’s mind. If Pint ever found his way into this room in the future, he would be one happy horse. Kit smiled at that thought, then continued to walk around the cellar.

Delight finally emerged once again in Kit’s heart with this new addition to his restaurant, he made plans to start stocking the cellar as soon as possible. He remembered that Snickers wanted him to make purple wine. Now that he was over level 60 swordsman, he could finally go to collect the ingredients with Leonard, that was, if he was not busy running around for Snickers.

“Well, what do you think, amazing, right?” Snickers had been following him around the room watching his expression. Kit couldn’t refute her words, this room was certainly a beneficial addition to the restaurant. Previously he had to limit the amount of alcohol he could store in the restaurant due to storage restrictions, now he wouldn’t have too. In fact he might have a hard time trying to fill the room.

Kit smiled at Snickers “Yep, it is fantastic!”

Snickers was practically glowing, her greedy eyes shone with unveiled delight. “Kit, I think it’s time for you to make some purple wine. I’ll make some preparations for Leonard to take you when you return from your next holiday.” Snickers was rubbing her hands together in anticipation of getting her hands on some alcohol.

It was like Snickers was reading his mind today, a happy hum of agreement left Kits mouth. He was not going to refuse the chance to make another stats item for the restaurant. With that thought Kit decided it was time to open his restaurant so that he could make some money. “Shall we let the others in now, it will be opening time soon and I want the restaurant to get back to regular opening hours as soon as possible.’

Snickers started to nod her head then she paused. “Wait Kit there is still one more area left to show you.” Kit frowned, had Snickers done some additional remodelling when she added the blueprints.

A smile broke out on Kit’s face, he was never disappointed when Snickers rearranged the restaurant. It was like they were in sync with there ideas about the restaurant most of the time. “Lead the way my lovely restaurant manager.” Kit was in a good mood now, so he gave Snickers a playful bow.

A happy giggle left her mouth and they headed up the stairs. Kit thought they would stop somewhere inside the restaurant, so he was surprised when Snickers headed outside. She led him around the back of the restaurant to large pond.

Surprise flittered across his face at the sparkling water. He had forgotten all about the pond blueprint he had received as a reward for winning the cooking challenge. He looked at the pond then glanced over at the spectacular lake with the snow-capped mountains nestled behind.

The pond really did pale in comparison to the natural view of the lake. “Snickers I don’t think we need this pond, it looks a bit silly when there is an awe inspiring view already present.”

Snickers glanced at the lake and frowned. “You’re right, it does look pathetic, but it is still staying.” Snickers pointed into the sparkling water, Kit followed the direction of her finger to see movement under the water. The fresh ingredients he usually left in the fish tanks out back were now in the pond.

Now he understood why she had built the pond. It would act as another storage area for aquatic life. The useless blueprint turned out to have advantages. He thought about the pond location and decided that it needed to be moved. He didn’t want it as a feature of the restaurant especially when it would be compared with the natural view. He relayed this to Snickers.

“That might be a good idea, I will move it tonight. I’ll add some foliage to hide it from view.” With the matter settled and the tour done Kit headed to the kitchen to start preparing for the day.

The day went by in the blink of an eye, it was like all the residents and visitors were making up for the restaurant being run at a snail pace while he was away. All four chefs were in the kitchen and still struggled to keep up with the demand. He had even utilised the preparation knife that he had gotten at the culinary guild to help speed up production.

When the restaurant doors finally closed for the night Kit was ready to head straight to bed. He stopped himself from dragging his tired body home, and headed into the dining area to eat dinner with his employees.

He walked into the dinning area to see Pretzel being fawned over by an over excited Snickers. The small elf was trying to coax Pretzel into a new uniform and stuff his mouth with lollies at the same time. Pretzel noticed Kit walk in and gave him a pleading gaze.

Kit walked over to the pair, he couldn’t ignore the desperate eyes of Pretzel “Kit you are so naughty, why did you not tell me earlier we had a new employee.” Snickers finally slipped a shirt over Pretzel’s head as she spoke. “Look at how dashing our Pretzel is in the uniform and his aura is so bright!”

Snickers started to pinch Pretzel cheeks, Kit decided it was time to save the poor lad. “Snickers have you got the weeks earnings ready, I haven’t looked at it since my return from my holiday.” Snickers instantly released Pretzel’s cheek.

“This week is not as good as previously due to, well you already know. Today made up for some of the losses though. Oh, we also had to take the Apelop salad off the menu, we ran out of Apelop meat.” Snickers handed Kit over a piece of paper.

Kit took the paper and read his earnings.

2,220 x Red blooming Purple tail turtle soup

990 x Black spotted velvet frogs legs

3,140 x Wallowing blue poison

4,287 x Red velvet lake pasta

10,089 x Sweet Meadow beer

10,408 x Spartan Fire rum

20, 670x Lucky sticky candy apples

Restaurant total sales: 21 gold, 202 silver and 585 bronze crowns.

Total restaurant funds: 131 gold, 668 silver and 521 bronze crowns.

Even without the Apelop salad he was still happy with the restaurant’s takings. It was still a far cry from what he needed to make to sustain his game play, but it was turning a nice profit for a restaurant that had only been open a short time.

He hoped he could get it to the stage where he could earn the 3 platinum and 150 gold crowns needed each month to sustain his subscription and his share of his household budget.

Kit surmised he would need to start levelling his swordsman ability once again so he could get to level 100 and climb the mountain to try to find the hidden treasure. It was the only way he was going to earn enough money fast enough to stay in CAL.

He tucked the paper away while thinking about money, he then remembered that he could open a market stall in Fairweather town. This would help to boost his earnings, he decided to enjoy his dinner first, then he would bring it up with his staff.
