Snowball took this opportunity to steal Kit’s attention. A series of disgruntled yaps were directed at Kit, he bent down to pick up his cute dog. “Snowball I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to leave you behind.”
Kit fussed over his companion until he was forgiven. While he had been coaxing Snowball his other employees had arrived, noisy foots steps could be heard echoing down the hall. Instead of the usual congregation in the dining area after each shift, they all headed straight to bed.
A frown appeared on Kit’s face, he was a bit sad at being ignored. He was looking forwards to finally having time to talk to his staff. “Was it this bad the whole time I was away?” Kit asked Twix and Mars hoping they had an answer.
Mars nodded his head. “Yep, they had it pretty tough trying to keep up with the demands from the customers. Your restaurant was rebuilt, twice, by the way.” Kit had forgot Snickers had mentioned that earlier. He had thought she was just exaggerating or being dramatic.
“Why did it get destroyed in the first place?” Kit was really curious what happened and was worried about upgrading his restaurant. What happened if this became a common theme, he knew it would be more expensive to rebuild a one star restaurant compared to the beginner restaurant he had now.
“Well, the first time was Snickers throwing a tantrum. There were so many complaints about the wait times and the takeaway section closing. So, Snickers threatened that if they didn’t stop complaining she would just blow up the restaurant. I don’t think anyone believed her, that was until the restaurant collapsed around them.” Mars was laughing at Snickers antics.
“Ah, that really was funny.” Twix pipped in. “The crowd was really good for two days until the restaurant ran out of ingredients. Then a full blown riot happened, by the time everything was under control, your restaurant was once again in ruins.” Twix seemed to enjoy picking up the story from Mars.
“Snickers then refused to rebuild the restaurant until the crowd paid for both reconstructions. Ahh you should have seen their faces, it was gold!” Twix was giggling as he spoke. “Anyway, the crowd soon gave in and the funds were raised in a very short time. Oh and no one was hurt in either of the times the restaurant was destroyed.”
Kit took back all his earlier praises about Snickers, she was bat shit crazy! Who blew up a restaurant just because the customers complained, then made them pay for the repairs! At least he could console himself with the fact that he wouldn’t be out of pocket for the reconstruction price.
A headache started to form in his temples, he would need to have a conversation with Snickers about how to manage complaints in the future. He didn’t know how the conversation would pan out, so he decided to wait a couple of days until Snickers had fully forgiven him.
Kit spent the next hour patting Snowball and filling Mars and Twix in on what had happened while he was away. When he got to the part about being ambushed Mars’ face contorted into rage, a sinister smile was plastered on his friends face when he was finished.
“Kit don’t worry about that Chef Nutmeg, I will take care of it next time you need to go to Fairweather town.” A shiver went down Kit’s spine at the chilling fire in Mars’ eyes. Kit was about to ask Mars how he would take care of it, then he changed his mind at the last minute.
Right now, he thought it would be better for his sanity if he didn’t know. He had a feeling Mars might really be a bit crazy at times and right now it looked like he was going to go full blown psycho mode on Chef Nutmeg.
“Ah ok Mars, then I will leave it to you.” Kit gave Mars a soft smile of thanks then decided it was time to take his leave. Although he knew he knew sleep wouldn’t come easy tonight, his body was tired and at least needed some rest. He scooped Snowball into his arms and bid goodnight to his friends.
A loud bang woke Kit from his sleep, surprisingly he slept like a log. “KIT, get up!” Muds familiar voice bounced around his room. Mud was standing in his open bedroom door panting, it looked like he had been running.
Kit rubbed his tired eyes. “What is it Mud?” He was still half asleep and didn’t understand why Mud was in such a flap.
“What is it? Kit did you hurt your head while you were away.” Mud gave him a strange look. “The changes to the restaurant have been completed, I thought you would be the first one there this morning. Snickers won’t let any of us in until you get there, so hurry up!”
Kit jumped out of bed, how could he have forgotten! He quickly put on his boots and ran a hand through his hair then dashed towards his restaurant. The closer he got the more confused he became, his restaurant still looked the same from the outside.
Did Snickers hold off on the changes as more punishment? Fury started to bubble in his stomach, making him wait overnight was punishment enough! His eyes darted around his gathered employees out the front of his shop searching for the familiar green hair.
When his sights settled on the slim elf his anger wanted to rush out. Snickers light up at the sight of him. “Kit you’re finally here.” She was happily heading towards him with a big smile on her face. “Come around the side of the restaurant first and I will show you the new storage facility.”

Kit’s anger flipped like a switch to excitement. Anticipation thrummed through his veins after hearing the short sentence from Snickers mouth. He happily followed Snickers around the side of his building, like a puppy following its master.
A new circular mud room was attached to the side of the building. A wooden door allowed access inside, Kit hadn’t been able to see the new addition on approaching his restaurant because of the angle he’d came from. Snickers pushed the door open and went inside, Kit quickly followed hot on her heels.
Wooden shelves lined the walls, and a scattering of spice jars was already on display. The refrigerator and storage cupboard had been moved into the room. This would leave him more bench space in the kitchen.
Delight filled his heart, his small kitchen had limited space and became crowded very fast when they were all inside. He was very happy with the new addition to his restaurant.
The storeroom was simple, but Kit was immensely satisfied at the sight of the room. He wondered if it was just a plain store room or if it worked like the magic storage cupboard, Snickers answered his question before he could ask.
“I don’t know if you still want the storage cupboard, the room is basically a big version of it. That panel over there is where you place orders.” Snickers was pointing to a digital screen next to the door he had just walked through.
Kit went over to the screen and tapped on it. The display was exactly the same as the one on the storage cupboard, he could place his orders and they would be delivered to the shelves. Kit glanced up to the top of the screen and received a shock.
The storage capacity was displayed in to corner of the screen. At the moment he had filled up 12 slots out of 5,000. This room could hold 5 times the amount of the storage cupboard, plus this room could also be upgraded. Spicy red peppers! This was fantastic!
Kit started to feel his heart pound, he would go through all the troubles all over again at Fairweather town just to get this room. He couldn’t wait to see the rest of the blueprints brought to life. “Snickers, lead on to the next one!” Kit started to feel giddy with happiness as they walk through the kitchen, he noticed the extra space immediately that the cupboards and refrigerator left behind.
His face split into a wide grin as he followed Snickers into the dining area, he was about to see his new bar and the shop in a shop! His palms were starting to sweat, and a tingling of anticipation spread all over his body. These two additions were what he was most excited about.
Kit froze when he entered the dining area, the only change he could see was a row of stairs leading down into the ground below his dining floor.
The entrance was placed against the wall close to the kitchen, a wooden handrail surrounded the hole, so no one could accidentally fall down. His previous grin fell off his face. Snickers noticed the change in his expression and sighed.
“I’m sorry Kit, the bar and shop in a shop couldn’t fit inside the current dining area. We will have to wait until the restaurant is upgraded to construct them.” Kit felt a pout forming, he tried to stop his silly mouth twisting with disappointment, but was unable to.
He really was frustrated that he couldn’t see these new additions. He wanted to cry from having his excitement robbed from him. He knew whatever he saw now down those stairs wouldn’t be appreciated because his mood had turned sour.
Snickers saw that he was visibly upset “Kit, don’t be like this, I know you were looking forward to seeing all the new blueprints but they really can’t be done now. It won’t be long until you can see them, I promise.” Snickers held her hand over her heart in a gesture of sincerity. “The village isn’t far off being upgraded then we can also upgrade the restaurant.”
Snickers tried to console him by tempting him with the fact he could soon turn his restaurant into a one star. Kit let out a sigh, she was right soon his restaurant would change, it was just he was so excited to see something amazing right now.
“You’re right Snickers I should be looking forward, not wallowing about things I can’t change.” Kit tried to pep himself up speaking to Snickers. He felt it working as his mind wandered off to imagining what his one star restaurant would look like.
“Speaking about the restaurant upgrade, there was something about that that I wanted to discuss with you.” Snickers spoke in a hesitant fashion. “Kit before I tell you about this, I don’t want you to get too hopeful, ok?”
Kit’s curiosity was piqued at her choice of words. “Snickers I can’t get hopeful about anything if I don’t know about it. How about you just say it, then we can go from there.” Kit didn’t want Snickers to beat around the bush, he had a feeling this was going to be something important to his future restaurant.
Snickers still looked hesitant to speak, the longer it took her to broach the subject the more intensely Kit wanted to hear what she had to say. Kit felt his heart rate picking up waiting, finally Snickers opened her mouth. “I heard a whisper about something that’s only heard about in legends.”
Snickers paused and sucked in a breath and started to twist a stand of her hair. Kit’s eyes were riveted to her cautious movements, she had his full undivided attention. Her nervous gestures and tentative approach made him want to shake her so she would spill it out faster. “At first when I heard the rumours I didn’t take it seriously but then something about the story made me change my mind.”
Kit was internally screaming for her to hurry this story along. Her out of character actions emphasised how important this information would be! He couldn’t help but to interrupt. “Snickers spit it out already, the suspense is killing me!”
Snickers eyes clashed with Kit’s and an intense twinkle light up her eyes. “It was about a hidden restaurant blueprint.” Kit watched as a dreamy look appeared on her face. “It was not about an ordinary blueprint, but an actual restaurant building, not an addition like the ones we just completed.”
Kit frowned at her words, all the excitement he had been building up at her words smashed like a broken glass. He already had a building why would he need another one? It wasn’t like he could own two restaurants in CAL. “Snickers why would I get excited about that, I have a restaurant right here.” Kit swung his arms wide showcasing the dining room.
A burst of laughter left Snickers mouth, then she gazed at Kit like he was stupid. “My god you really are an idiot sometimes. I’ll give you a minute to think about it.” A roll of her eyes made Kit grind his teeth. He was not an idiot!
