Arc 4 Chapter 4 : Of swords and magic.

Arc 4 Chapter 4 : Of swords and magic.

Chapter 4 : Yuri-chan plays Spartaaaaa!

Oh no.

There it is.

The legendary [mentor flag]

The one nobody managed to escape from. Running away from it is futile, fighting it is futile, accepting it is futile, for in most coming of age stories, the mentor figure has to die for the hero to be recognized as an adult. And being deader than I currently am isn't in my plans right now.

"Ah, I seem to have misheard what you just said, Connor, could you care to repeat yourself ?"

We were, ironically enough, on the same hill I used to scout the city. Except this time, it was the evening and I was pretty pressed for time to get to my last encampment. The teenaged trio was facing me, with determined eyes.

"Please, make us your apprentices! You've beaten so many demons alone, normal people can't do that!"

I look at them sharply, and I can almost see sweat forming on their brows.

"That should have been your first hint that I'm not normal. The fact I wasn't invited to stay in town, your second. The fact that I appeared at the same time as those demons, the third."

Here, I did it, I implied I work with those demons, now go away in fright or something ! Sadly, that seemed to have encouraged them more, and a blushing Aife approached me.

"We know you're a demon hunter, sir. And that is why we need your help! Our..."

NOPE! Not the backstory. I held up my hand and was about to answer them, when something got my attention.

The village was being attacked.

Well, sh*t.

I look back at the oblivious teenagers.

The things I do to avoid that accursed mentor flag.

"The only thing you have to focus on, for now, would be to help gather survivors and supplies and run away from here."

Brian's eyes widened and he turned around as Archibald and I started charging towards the village, I ignored their cries.

The mentor flag is indeed, a horrible opponent, but in this I can raise the fake death or something.

I arrive in the village, take my stuff and slap the horse's behind to make him go away. And he was such a good horse, too...

Necrolily. Stop cloaking us. If that mentor flag doesn't want to go away, I'll raise an even brighter Hero flag myself and to hell with all that mess!

Okie ! Should I switch to automatic absorption?

I thought about it for a moment, before a foreign, savage grin crept up my lips.

No, I've got better in my mind...

In Oriens, a bored young man's eyes suddenly opened, and he jumped from his throne.

"Adessa, prepare the rangers, we're going."

"Y-Your Highness ?"

"I found the princess, and it seems the demons have started their offensive."

"D-Demons ?!"

Nagito sighed. He'd have to get himself a better assistant.

"What are you up to, Yuri ?"

The same activity rose in Septentrion, where Tasuku, or Cronos, as he had taken to call himself, was currently training.

"Cronos-samaaaa ! Freyja-sama has been found !"

The black haired young man turned towards their instructor Kyrille with a shocked expression.

"She did ?"

"Yes, she's in Occidens, I suspect They have something to do with the demon invasion."

His fist and teeth clenched.

"We need to go there !"

Kyrille's eyes softened and she put her hands on his cheeks, speaking softly.

"No, you can't, we can't risk you there, Hero-sama, we've already sent soldiers. Until the demon king is found, I implore you to stay there."

With that, she went away, Cronos and his girlfriends waited she was out of sight to rush away. If there were lives to be lost, it was their job to save them !

In a forest, a Barrel was rolling.

Currently, I am in a street of the burning village, hacking away at those creeps, and since there's no human around, I don't even have to bother with trying to hide my necromantic abilities.

Necrolily, spread rate ?

The circle is about 75% complete, and it will take approximately thirty other kills before the drain activates.

Umu, keep on the good job.

Berser-tan, Lancer-chan, I leave the rest to you.

...!

Hell yeah you can!

Ah, it might be a bit hard to explain what's currently going on, so it might be better to start at the beginning ? As one might have already noticed, in a straight up fight, I can't defeat that army by myself. No, even by using my elemental abilities, it is pretty impossible, they're too numerous, and they have a lot of mages too, which is why I've decided to rely on my more... Obscure knowledge. Following that, I've managed to place sigils underground around the city that will act as a base for the spells and curses I'm about to unleash.

Necrolily is in charge of stealthily deploying them so that they form a circle around the city. The effects of the circle ?

Automatic magical energy drain and demonic lifeforce drain and conversion.

When I said shed blood was your absolute worst enemy, I meant it. By using the demon blood on the dagger I kept, we were able to install a racial lock on this spell. While the drain won't be instantaneous and won't hinder them before hours of staying there, it really isn't the objective.

No, consider this. There are hundreds of demons here, and only one of me. Even if I drain only one percent of their magic and lifeforce, it's more than enough to keep me at maximum strength. Following that, I can start using the really nasty spells, and that's why I need Necrolily's help.

Circle complete and no anomaly detected, we can proceed to phase 2, Yuri-tan!

Okay, draining, activate!

It hurts, but I can deal with the pain, no problem. Necrolily, please focus on installing and maintaining the magical jamming zone.

On it Captain!

Lancer-chan, Berser-tan, how are you holding up ?

... .

Well, there were a few close calls, and we had to 'borrow' some spears, but now it's going just right, the mobs should be cleared enough for your 'group B' to go out, I think.

And so, they switched with Fencer-san and I.

'Cleared up' hey ? It's a sea of corpses right here...

... ?

Well, I didn't expect that, to begin with.

... .

I suppose, yes, I should have expected that from two of my wildest personalities.

I look at my hands and notice an unpleasant detail. I glow. Like a f*cking fairy.

Well, I didn't really have time to hide the drain, so I made it look like you were radiating instead !

But still... Ah, at least it's a golden one. If THAT doesn't raise that damned hero flag...

I see the biggest, meanest looking demon I've ever had the displeasure to meet not far down the road, in the town square.

"Well, it's time to give that baby a few swings ?" I say, taking my brand new steel sword off its scabbard and activating my illusion spell. I am no not naming it.

Indeed, it would be time.

Oh? Are you being jealous Lancer-chan got to massacre demons?

No. My principal worry as of now is to purge this city and save what can be.

Awww, Fencer-chan, such a good girl...

Silence, let's not wait any longer.

And so I run towards the demon commander.

And so, my lunge was blocked by an all too familiar figure, with a shiver inducing smirk.

"Long time no see, Onee-chan."

And so, even later, I still can't understand what happened. Everything went too quickly and Fencer-chan fully took charge, I only know that, at some point, we lost consciousness, and maybe there was a barrel involved ?

Anyways, I feel rocked , slightly, and open an eye. I see black hair and smell sandalwood.

"...Who ?"

"Hmph, save your strength, my princess, for the hardest has yet to come. But fear not, for the great me is here !" Answered the person carrying me on his back.

"Is that so..."

Well, I guess I'll take your word for it.

I feel so tired...

Ha ha ha.

I'm looking forwards what you guy's guesses are about what just happened.
