Dear self,
We took the morning to deal with the statue of communion. I helped a few customers in the shop while Mother did her own inspection of the artefact. I made sure to look around the house for any invasive influences and warded the chamber with my evasion cloak. It took me longer than normal to i fuse the formation as I had to clear my mind of any concerned thoughts lest they change the intent I was infusing the wondrous item with.
Mother came back from her examination and told me there were traces of essence on the artefact I didn’t mention from my own analysis. I looked at it but whatever she was talking about was invisible to me. She said it resembled the passage of an intangible entity into Materiality, which implies a more direct influence from the connection tethered to the artefact. It only marked a passage through the item but is useless to figure out what the direct influence was used for. Most Outer being are rather gargantuan and mostly incoherent in thought, so ai thought it was likely just some being feeling our world mindlessly through the connection with an ethereal limb.
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
We purged the artefact using a cleansing ritual with harmony elements. Morrowgrim and Dawdlium was added for good measure in sealing the Outer connection. The item is currently completely incapable of communion, and we’ll have to discuss with the customer if they want to restore the basic function of communion, barring the Outer connection. Eldritch magic is restricted, and it might even get last Mum’s wards without effort depending on the specific case. It’s one of the types of magic that don’t need to conform to the normal rules.
It was only later that I spotted a strange creature made out of light in the garden. It had floppy ears and a tail that extended to four times the length of it’s body. I would describe it’s body as some mix between a cat and a slug. It had no eyes.
This was clearly an unnatural creature. If I sensed closely I could listen to the dissonance it caused within the Solacium. It ran away before we could catch it. Mother could not see it. Apparently something in my vision made it visible where it normally wasn’t, and that same thing made the traces of its essence invisible to me. We now have an eldritch creature of some sort running loose in the forest and I might be the only one capable of seeing it.
Mother suspects that it might be a Voidbringer, as they tend to be attracted to loose fragments of reality such as the unbound connection the statue was tethering. There are also a larger probability of smaller creatures among Voidbringers as their inhabitation of Limbo lets them survive more easily when they aren’t gargantuan thing like leviathans. Why the Asuras are so tolerant of them is beyond us.
While it is relatively small, it is an invasive creature within our Realm, and a higher order of being. The natural environment is under threat from it’s presence. It might be drawn towards that second rift as well. Even if that rift is benign it won’t be when a Voidbringer decides to consume the loose reality around it and gnawing a hole through the fundament.
Hope we fare well.
Regards,
Me.
