10th Light beneath the eleventh Moon

3761 Cycles beyond the Dark

722 Years after the Repentance

Entry: 1/027

Dear self,

A gnome came in with a specialised loupe she used to inspect basic magical properties in gems and recognise the possibility of problematic enchantments even before taking them for a full appraisal like what we do. It was one of the objects I am responsible for so Mum left me to it. I need to get through these before I can have my general suspension lifted. Mother can actually remove the suspension herself as a registered Guild enforcer but thinking rationally none of us feel like there is any reason for her to make an exemption for me.

The loupe had very complex workings, and with its purpose in helping to provide certainty it makes sense that a lack of an official Guild seal is especially distressing in this case, which is part of why I spent half an hour listening to a diatribe from an irate gnome and trying to calmly answer her questions. The full appraisal will take me two working days, which was expected by everybody.

Mum sent me out to deal with the chalk path as well today. I had to play with the little bird glamour to ground my magic during, but it was a simple job of walking down the path into town and making sure the magic is still keeping snow from the path. The stones can glow an iridescent light when they become hard to see. The moving colours help, I’m told, even if they mostly glow a white with the other colours being hard to see. I had to use a few cantrip to clear a few spots where snow began piling in and to adjust the workings, but there were no significant problems at all. Aerzen invited me for lunch while I was in town and I purchased some foods and ingredients from the shops in town.

We got another letter from the Rangers Guild about a different person coming to retrieve the Darcinderaht from us, including a token we will be able to use to confirm identify directly. Rahph is only now starting to show signs of getting better. He hot a lot more lively than he had been the previous days and paced around his confinement circle. He also vomited sporadically throughout the day. Considering he is a wamrth loving herbivore in a cold wintery environment that likely ate half a Giant Jackalope I can understand why he is expelling mass from his system. Magical being such as him tend to retain things they have consumed over long periods and do most physical things gradually, which is why he still has some meat in his stomach.

Appraising the loupe was difficult with my Incuria still riling around. With the disruptive nature of the Incuria I’m placing the enchantments at risk if I lose control over my rumination. I placed an added few layers of grounding to the item to reduce risk if something were to happen, but it also made it harder to affect the workings and slowed the appraisal process down. It’s times like these working on an item for several hours that I wonder how mages got anything done without a proper Manifold to guide their practice. The Manifold is basically the primary thing performing work in magic with myself being mostly a directing hand at times. If I had to manage all the things the Manifold does for me I’d find a mundane profession and give up on magic entirely. The Quisling Simulacrum may have gotten by without a developed Manifold, but he was obviously beginning to construct his own basic one with the melding his items were made with.

Hope we fare well.

Regards,

Me.
