18th Light beneath the eleventh Moon
3761 Cycles beyond the Dark
722 Years after the Repentance
Entry: 1/036
Dear self,
I didn’t have that dream again last night. It felt strange how sudden my awakening was. I just had my eyes suddenly open and then I was fully aware and lost all traces of sleep. I just stared at the ceiling for a while pondering the strange way of waking up. It was earlier than I usually got up as well.
I went to the workshop with no one else awake yet. Using a cognizance meditation for a while I realised my disruption Incuria was ready for inurement with my native power. I let off doing the full ritual for after noon so that I could have someone supervise the process in case of any issues.
There weren’t any customers today. I got to work on consolidating the workings on that knife from yesterday. I used a circle containing Dawdlium to target the faded old enchantment interfering with the current workings. Tethering the faded fragments of magic was a little monotonous as I had to re-examine the piece every now and then to spot tiny fragments I had missed. I had to also a start loosening the active working slowly so that I could pull the old one out from under it. It takes more time than skill and I have to wait for the entire thing to soften overnight.
The statue was trickier. The enchantment is sealed within a ward that keeps me from inspecting. I worked on it for a while but couldn’t figure out how to get past the wards. It’s clearly from an older time when enchanters were preoccupied in not having their work interfered with. Enchanters used to be a lot more reclusive before the Guilds were established.
I brought the last batch of Daylight potions for Nyri Quietwish in town. Tintinnabulis is built adjacent to the King’s Road and travelers regularly come to town in order to rest on their journey. Depending on the race, people travel all year round through every kind of weather on the Road. The only month without relatively common traffic is the Seventh.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
There was a merchant in the inn selling news. Word is that the wraiths were dispersing from one of the old ruins. It might lead to some adventurous types trying to explore the place for old artefacts and ancient secrets from before the Repentance. We’re close enough that it would bring in more people on the Road soon.
In order to begin the process of creating the evasion cloak I first needed to infuse it with a great deal of intent. Intent normally doesn’t help much with normal enchantment but it is essential during communion rituals and interfacing with any external Animus when shaping a working. The idea behind a wondrous item is to form an entire Animus for the item so a lot of intent and conceptual cognizance must be fed into the matrix of the item in order to initiate the formation of a subtle body.
This is a long process that will utterly fail of it is ever disrupted prior to completion. We have an entire separate chamber within the workshop where I set up a stability formation spanning the entire floor and parts of the wall. This formation prevents mutancy but mostly it acts as a scaffold to keep the matrix from collapsing without my constant participation.
I took the Amberglass I had infused with Nightgloom and Blitterleaf and placed it wrapped within the cloak of rift foil within the centre of the formation. Unlike many of my other projects, I cannot use many rituals for this enchantment as the external guidance would interfere with the Opus and cause warping. Most creational and higher magicks are similar in how external aid becomes detrimental. Creating an Animus like this offers the best results when the source of its origination is as pure and singular as is possible.
The creation requires a constant input of flux, which would be from myself, but the stability formation helps keep a reserve supply and regulates input over a long period, preventing the stream of flux becoming too energetic or any cessation of flow. I’ll need to re-infuse the formation nearly once every twelve hours for the next few days.
The inurement ritual was more straightforwards. Inurement is the process of a form of magic being integrated with the dzala and the physical body to become a part of the individual. Personal Incuria are already partially inured into their host most of the time if they have any permanency, so all we had to do is guide the process further and prevent any complications. Afterwards I would have more direct control over the ability and it would become akin to an innate power under my volition. It mostly meant I didn’t let out occasional disruption cantrips whenever I lost focus on my acuity.
Hope we fare well.
Regards,
Me.
