Entry: 2/002

Dear self,

Since I will be writing this journal on the unlikely premise that it might become necessary to restore my mind, I should offer a brief explanation of my paranoia. To be blunt, I was most recently inconvenienced by a trio of Quislings, which are a type of minor imp creature that are naturally adept with illusory magic. They managed to incapacitate me, effectively kidnap me for several days, and successfully created a simulacrum to impersonate me by using memories pilfered from my mind.

Having stolen my identity, the imps have also stolen my wallet before prancing off with an Augur and several dozen Glit. They somehow managed to dispense several unregulated enchanted items without any of the clients noticing. I am only allowed to practice with enchanting under my mother’s license as her apprentice so this is a serious matter that needed immediate reporting to the authorities. I can only be relieved that the Quislings didn’t try to forge an official guild seal, but we will be forced to refund whichever customers had been serviced by the simulacrum, and even compensate them depending on the individual items.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

It was my fault that it happened. Mother was away with Tori and had left me alone with the shop for a prolonged period. The little devils managed to escape an artefact they were bound into while I was appraising it for a client just as one of the lesser warding charms broke by chance. In the end, they were only scared away by my sister Anora sending word of a surprise visit, that and the simulacrum having enough of my memories to realise they would not be able to either deal with her. She found the house empty and discovered my person in the nearby woods hiding from all civilization. If you cannot remember what had happened to us then I am glad, and I made Anora promise to erase her own memory of the specifics. Suffice it to say that I was unavailable for the time the Quislings were attempting to take over my identity.

I have sent several reports to the guild and constabulary since then in order to mitigate the issue of multiple imps being loose in the area, a simulacrum active in identity theft, and trying to appease the enchanter’s guild to avoid having my official apprenticeship revoked. I’m mostly frustrated that none of the people entering the shop or purchasing items noticed any oddities or that the enchanter seal was missing from all the items they bought.

Hope we fare well.

Regards,

Me.
