Chapter 9:Searching for Eimotun

As the screams gradually faded away, Chen Xu realized that something was wrong. He sped up and ran towards the direction of the sound.

After turning a few corners, he finally arrived at the scene where bodies were lying on the ground with blood flowing irregularly. These corpses were dressed in black robes with strange paint on their faces. They seemed to be members of Pharaoh's guard who had appeared before. Several of them caught Chen Xu's attention.

One body had lost its ears, another its skin, and one even had dried skin still attached to its bones with no trace of flesh or blood inside.

"The person who did this is Imhotep," said Chen Xu as he bent down and touched the blood on the ground. "Only he would need people's ears and skin. But judging from how coagulated this blood is, he shouldn't have gone far."

Chen Xu opened his Necronomicon and recited an incantation: "Living or dead, seek revenge in Anubis' name."

A crimson light covered all these corpses on the ground; under mysterious power they gradually solidified into an elegant blood cat.

The Blood Cat was said to be a messenger from Hades that could suppress dead souls; any undead creature it encountered would be suppressed after meeting it.

After walking elegantly across this land, wherever it went left behind a bloody mark.

"Go ahead then! Seek your revenge! Find whoever killed you!" With a wave of his hand by Chen Xu, Blood Cat meowed once before darting out like lightning.

"This is magic?" Jones envied him as she spoke: "And you can even turn things into cats?"

"Just a small spell." Chen Xu modestly replied: "Blood Cats have no attacking power against living creatures; just one hit could kill them easily. However for undead creatures they are very effective."

"Most importantly," continued Chen Xu while looking at the corpses on the ground, "Blood Cats are very sensitive to dead souls, especially to those who killed them. Their sensitivity far exceeds that of undead creatures towards living beings' breaths. It can help us find Imhotep."

"So what should we do now?" O'Connor looked at the strange death of these bodies on the ground and finally believed that his shot had not killed Imhotep.

"I don't know either." Evelyn looked at the corpses on the ground and their terrifying deaths; even if she was open-minded, she couldn't help but feel sad.

"High Priest?" The bearded man in black robes looked at Chen Xu with suspicion: "Why didn't you obey Imhotep's orders?"

"Why should I obey Imhotep's orders?" Chen Xu turned his head and looked at him: "Aren't you Pharaoh's guard? Shouldn't you be dealing with Imhotep? Why would you want me to follow his orders or enhance his strength? Or is it because you have betrayed your mission and joined forces with him?"

"If we had joined forces with him, so many of our brothers wouldn’t have died," said the bearded man excitedly. "From past till present, we've been guarding Hamunaptra from letting Imhotep resurrected again. But your arrival has caused us to fail."

Stolen novel; please report.

"Did you intercept our army last time? Did you attack us this time?" O'Connor finally realized what was going on. "All the dead people here are your men?"

"Yes, we are descendants of Pharaoh's guards. We have been guarding Hamunaptra for generations to prevent Imhotep from resurrecting and bringing about the end of the world. Anyone who comes to Hamunaptra is our enemy," replied the bearded man firmly.

"So, just because of that, you can kill people at will?" O'Connor grabbed the bearded man by his collar and said fiercely, "So many people were killed and so much blood was shed."

"To protect Hamunaptra and prevent Imhotep from resurrecting, I would say yes," calmly replied the bearded man.

"Alright, both of you." Chen Xu frowned. "It's already late. Instead of arguing here, we should focus on finding Imhotep and killing him."

"You haven't told me why you betrayed Imhotep yet," said the bearded man coldly as he looked at Chen Xu.

"I don't like your gaze either, but now we're allies. I won't hold a grudge against your eyes anymore," retorted Chen Xu irritably.

"In addition, why should I obey Imhotep's orders? I am a free soul who acts according to my own will without being bound by anyone else. Why does little Imhotep have control over me?"

The bearded man furrowed his brows deeply as he pondered over it.

In his memory all priests followed High Priest Imhotep’s commands; when High Priest Imhotep abducted Queen Anck-su-Namun and betrayed Pharaoh Ramses II in Thebes all priests died with him too.

Since then there has been no priest inheritance in Egypt nor any other magical powers associated with them.

Therefore he couldn’t understand Chen Xu's thoughts, but not understanding did not mean he could not agree with him. For him, as long as Imhotep could be buried, he could let go of any hatred and even cooperate with O'Connor who had fought against him before.

"Alright, I believe you. Let's work together to bury Imhotep," said the bearded man.

"That is the Book of Amun-Ra." Chen Xu pointed at Evelyn's hand. "It is a book that can strip Imhotep of his power. As long as we find Imhotep and recite the spell in it, we can strip him of his power and then kill him."

"But now we can't find Imhotep."

"We can leave finding Imhotep to me," said the bearded man calmly. "Pharaoh’s guards are spread throughout Egypt; we can find Imhotep at the fastest speed possible."

...

In the passage, just recovered from death again, Imhotep was extremely angry with novice priest Chen Xu for betraying him.

"You damn novice priest! You are the first priest to betray High Priest! Your name will forever be nailed into this sarcophagus and your soul will be banished to Hades where you will suffer eternal torment!"

"Then before that happens I should collect some interest."

Imhotep suddenly turned around and behind him stood a shabby ghost wearing a red hat carrying a box full of gold - Benny.

"Oh no!" At this moment Benny also noticed that Imhotep had just resurrected himself; he dropped his gold box and ran away.

"Can you escape?" Suddenly appearing behind Benny, eyes filled with bloodshot veins staring at him like a cat playing with its prey.

"No..." Terrified by what was happening Benny took out his cross while continuously chanting: "God bless us all...just like how shepherds protect their sheep..."

When there was no sign of God wanting to protect this false believer, he switched to a crescent-shaped holy object and then changed it again and again until finally changing it into a hexagonal star-shaped one. This made Imhotep stop in his tracks. It is worth mentioning that this so-called holy object was just like the cross, something you could buy for only one pound.

"I need your blood as an offering to Anubis, the god of death. I need power strong enough to resist the power of the Book of Amun-Ra," said Imhotep while looking at Benny with his bloodshot eyes.

"It's outside, Your Highness." Terrified Benny replied: "Outside there are knights who call themselves Pharaoh’s guards; they say they want to eliminate you. When I went out just now I saw them; hopefully their blood will satisfy you."

"Satisfy Anubis," corrected Imhotep.

"Yes, satisfy the great god Anubis," echoed Benny obediently.

So, those who had successfully contacted Imhotep after meeting with Americans were killed by him and parts of their bodies became part of him while their
