Chapter 6:Necronomicon

Chapter 6:Necronomicon

As expected by Chen Xu, everything below unfolded just as the movie portrayed without his intervention. The warden couldn't bear the pain of the scarab beetle eating his heart and ended up headbutting a wall to death, while the Americans were melted by concentrated hydrochloric acid.

When night fell, the guards who had been following them finally made their move. They wore black robes and rode tall horses charging through the night, throwing torches everywhere and setting tents on fire. It was obvious that they wanted to drive away these Americans and Chen Xu's group.

However, these guards clearly underestimated the strength of American cowboys. When they fought back, more than ten bodies were left behind before they retreated.

Chen Xu hid under a collapsed pillar he had already found earlier. It formed a small nest-like space with many holes in it when supported by other things. He watched coldly from there because he didn't want to interfere with the plot as he got closer to his target; he feared causing a butterfly effect that would change everything irreversibly for him.

"The closer I get to my goal, the more cautious I must be," Chen Xu reminded himself silently. "Until I obtain Necronomicon Ex Mortis (The Book of Dead), doing anything is wrong; only doing nothing is right."

After driving away all guards, three Americans came out along with one man who looked like a doctor or scientist holding something black in his hand - Necronomicon Ex Mortis!

Chen Xu stared at it intently but knew this wasn't yet time for action since unlike Evelyn's curiosity about it earlier on; this doctor obviously knew how precious Necronomicon Ex Mortis was too! If Chen acted now, it would only lead to an all-out conflict between him and those Americans.

Although this group of Americans would soon perish completely later on anyway, at present they still possessed formidable combat power.

"Wait a little longer, until Evelyn steals Necronomicon Ex Mortis... that's the best time," Chen Xu decided.

The doctor seemed to sense something and turned his head, meeting Chen Xu's gaze. His hand instinctively tightened around the book as he said, "This is mine."

"Of course it is yours, Doctor," Chen Xu added silently in his mind. "But soon it will be mine too."

"Oh, this is wonderful! Look at what we found!" One American shook his bottle triumphantly and said: "Antiques from hundreds of years ago; collectors would pay a fortune for these!"

"What are our antiques compared to someone who has found a fresh mummy?" Another American sneered.

"Yes indeed! We can dry out the mummy and use it as firewood!"

After saying that, all three Americans laughed heartily while O'Connor and Jonathan joined them.

"All right now, O'Connor." Chen Xu patted him on the shoulder. "There are still many things inside worth finding; don't bother with them."

"Yeah! There are still many things left inside unlike some people who get cocky after finding just one thing." O'Connor grumbled resentfully about those Americans' gains.

"Look what I've found!" Evelyn ran over excitedly holding up beetle shells in her hands. "These are scarab beetles' bones - carnivorous insects I found in his coffin."

"These bugs eat corpses and can live for several years; our poor friend was eaten alive when he was still conscious."

O'Connor glanced at the three Americans before asking: "So someone threw these bugs down there to slowly devour him?"

"That's right... very slowly," Evelyn replied calmly.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

"It seems like he wasn't well-liked if they punished him like this," O'Connor commented while he and Evelyn discussed their unfortunate friend being devoured by scarab beetles without any concern or fear. The other three Americans shuddered at the thought of such a terrifying punishment.

"In fact, in ancient Egypt, this terrible punishment was called 'worm-eating' and was the most vicious curse used against heinous criminals. However, I've never heard of it being executed," Evelyn said as she exchanged glances with O'Connor before continuing: "It's said that once someone who has been worm-eaten comes back to life, they will bring ten disasters to Egypt."

"It's just a legend, it's not believable at all," Chen Xu interrupted them. "What we need to do now is sleep well, rest up and continue digging tomorrow."

Chen Xu yawned and spread out his bedding on the ground before lying down and drifting off to sleep.

Evelyn lost interest in discussing scary things after Chen Xu spoke and quickly fell asleep as well. However, like Chen Xu, she was only pretending to be asleep.

In the middle of the night, Evelyn quietly got up and snuck over to the doctor's side. She stole his Book of Dead Spells then took the key from Jonathon Carnahan before returning back.

As soon as he saw what had happened, Chen Xu stood up and said to Evelyn: "Hey Evelyn, according to our agreement, The Book of Dead Spells belongs to me."

"Well I was just curious," Evelyn replied with a smile.

"Let's read it together," said Chen Xu with a slight smile.

The closer they got towards their goal, the more restless Chen Xu became. He took The Book of Dead Spells from Evelyn’s hands and opened it using the key.

"You shouldn't steal from others," O'Connell remarked sourly when he saw how close Chen Xu and Evelyn were getting.

"This is called borrowing." Even turning her head seemed too much effort for Evelyn at this point in time.

"Easy come easy go." With that remark made by him casually while memorizing spells inside The Book of Dead Spells , Imhotep was resurrected by accident due to Evy reading aloud one spell without knowing its power .

"No..."

The doctor who had been sleeping suddenly woke up with wide eyes staring angrily at Evy saying: "You can't say those words!"

Strange sounds echoed through space-time; swarms of locusts flew out from under Hamunaptra’s sands flapping their wings together creating an ear-piercing noise.

"What's happening?" Evelyn asked, looking at the swarm of locusts outside as if in a dream.

"Did something happen?" Jonathan Carnahan rubbed his eyes and woke up from his sleep.

Chen Xu also woke up from memorizing spells when he saw the swarm of locusts outside. He immediately understood what had happened.

"I didn't expect Imhotep to be resurrected," Chen Xu thought regretfully. He had planned to take The Book of Dead Spells away but was too impatient and started memorizing spells on the spot, which led Evy to read aloud one spell that accidentally resurrected Imhotep .

"It doesn't matter though; I have The Book of Dead Spells in my hands now and I've memorized all the spells inside it. As long as we don't face Imhotep directly, these small locusts can do nothing against me." Chen Xu thought confidently.

"Run!" O'Connell pulled Evelyn down below with him while running downstairs.

The other Americans followed suit, some who were too slow were swarmed by countless locusts covering their bodies before being eaten alive by them .

"No..."

Screams filled the air; even those who had conflicts with Chen Xu earlier were attacked by swarms of locusts then devoured alive soon after .

"Oh God! What have we done?" The doctor looked at the approaching swarm of locusts and finally realized that this trip was a mistake. They would pay for their mistakes themselves ,and consequences caused by errors continued .He is guilty!

"Apu Nubis, Apu Nubis, Apu Nubis..."

Chen Xu stared at the surging swarm without changing his expression while holding The Book Of Dead Spells reciting incantations under his breath .

At dawn time when life began in ancient Egypt people worshipped Anup (the leader of darkness) through books that existed as powerful spells. Every book in that era was the most powerful and terrifying spell, and The Book of Dead Spells had already existed at that time.

The swarm of locusts turned away from Chen Xu when they were about to touch him like a rock standing in the center of a storm; he was not affected by them .

"If there are spells inside The Book Of Dead Spells, then Sun Gold Scriptures should contain the true names and words of gods." A cold light flashed through Chen Xu's eyes.

In ancient Egyptian legends, The Book Of Dead Spells recorded gorgeous poems praising Ra, ancient Egyptian spells and the true names and words of gods.

However, after reading through it once just now ,Chen Xu found out that there were only ancient Egyptian spells inside The Book Of Dead Spells without any true names or words of gods. It seemed like this whole book wasn't complete.

Thinking back to how effective Sun Gold Scriptures' resurrection effect was earlier on Imhotep , Chen Xu could almost be certain that the true names and words of gods were hidden within Sun Gold Scriptures . In other words, combining both books would create a truly complete version called "
