Chapter 10:Disciple Sulaiman

Chapter 10:Disciple Sulaiman

In the era when technology was just emerging in the 20th century, the sky was blue, the earth was yellow, and Cairo, Egypt was bustling.

The crowds of people coming and going had no idea that the terrifying high priest had already been resurrected and brought with him the power of the underworld. They were still busy doing their own things for their salaries.

"You should relax a bit. Since Imhotep hasn't appeared yet, it proves that he's afraid. As for world destruction? Come on! It's now the 20th century. Do you think it's still ancient times? Guns can kill everything." O'Connell grabbed an apple, wiped it with his clothes, took a bite out of it and handed it to Evelyn. "Do you want some?"

"Ew! I don't want your saliva on my apple," Evelyn said disgustedly as she moved away from O'Connell.

"In reality, this world is beautiful. But Chen Xu promised me gold; don't go back on your word," Jonathan looked around hoping to buy everything but unfortunately his pockets were empty.

"The gold is inside Hamunaptra; you just didn't bring all of them out yourself," Chen Xu casually replied while adding: "And you also brought a bag of gold out yourself."

In fact, poor Jonathan was once again deceived by Chen Xu because he did not provide him with camels as promised earlier - they were all eaten by locusts outside Hamunaptra.

When Jonathan found out about this truth later on and went to confront Chen Xu about it - he faced mummies instead. In fact facing any kind of mummy requires courage even if they are tattered or look weak like one does need courage to face such situations which poor Jonathan clearly lacked so he got chased away by mummies summoned by Chen Xu himself only to be mocked by Rick O'Connell and Ardeth Bay for the rest of the day.

Well, to be honest, Jonathan didn't really care about this level of mockery.

Compared with Chen Xu, Evelyn, O'Connell and Jonathan who were all relaxed - Ardeth Bay's mood was obviously much heavier.

As an ancient heritage (passed down for three thousand years), he had always kept Imhotep's terror in his heart. Generations after generations of inheritance had deeply imprinted that era on him so he was worried.

"We must find Imhotep as soon as possible," Ardeth Bay said again.

"You've already said it three times."

"And I can't find Imhotep now. I can only rely on you guards."

"I hope you can use your power to find Imhotep. I can only give some vague hints."

"My blood cat has been killed. With Imhotep's own strength, it is impossible to do anything." Chen Xu stopped and opened his mouth: "To find Imhotep, we must find humans who help him. There are currently two aspects we can search for."

"One is Americans; those Americans have been to Hamunaptra just like us and they say they have been cursed too. Given how much Americans love life itself, they will definitely help themselves first but also help Imhotep if needed. Oh yeah! O'Connell! Isn't your friend named Benny suspicious? He seems American."

"The other one is the servant of the priest. In ancient Egypt, priests had the same rights as pharaohs. They were born nobles, and perhaps they have a force like yours that has been passed down through generations. However, their mission may be to resurrect Imhotep."

"I know them," said the big beard in a deep voice. "But our people who are arranged among them did not detect any abnormalities."

"Oh, you guys still play spies," sneered O'Connell. "Last time there was also your spy in our army."

"No movement in Egypt can escape us," boasted the big beard proudly. "Our guards are all over Egypt and we knew about it when you came here and then gathered together."

"So Imhotep came out." O'Connell countered.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

The big beard was immediately silenced by O'Connell's words. This was a fact - after three thousand years of inheritance, their mission had finally been broken; Imhotep successfully resurrected himself which was the biggest mockery of their mission and evidence of failure.

"Enough from both of you! Stop arguing!" Chen Xu became impatient and turned his attention to a child hesitatingly before walking towards him.

He was about seven years old from an obviously poor family since he wasn't wrapped in cloth strips like most children at that time.

"Little friend." Chen Xu bent down with a smile looking at this shy-looking child, "Where are your parents?"

To him, finding out where this child's parents were only meant hoping for him to become a priest someday because he saw potential within him.

"Yes sir." The boy pointed with his hand while Chen Xu followed his gaze seeing two people coming aggressively towards them.

"Do you want your child to become a priest?" Chen Xu held up The Book Of Dead with both hands trying hard to look holy while saying: "I think he has great potential to become one."

"Get lost." The boy's father spat out the word 'get lost' lightly before taking his child away.

The mother pulled her child while lecturing him, "Don't talk to strangers."

Ha ha...

This laughter was obviously from those few people who were enjoying their misfortune.

Chen Xu felt like a crow had just flown over them. It was not a good feeling.

"If you want him to become a priest, his parents won't agree," Evelyn stopped laughing and ran over saying: "Priests need circumcision."

"What is circumcision?" Chen Xu asked in confusion since he only knew about Egyptian mythology and legends but not much about their customs.

"Circumcision means castration - cutting off little brother," explained the big beard as he walked up. "Since Imhotep's incident, Pharaoh has decreed that male priests must be circumcised to prevent similar incidents from happening again."

"I see." Chen Xu suddenly realized, "It seems that Imhotep harmed all the priests."

"But did I say I am a priest?" Chen Xu raised his head high walking past the big beard with pride. "As a Chinese person, I am actually a Taoist."

Jonathan and O'Connell stared at Chen Xu dumbfoundedly; they had never seen such an unscrupulous person before.

After dark, Chen Xu sneaked out of the hotel looking for that boy secretly because for him finding someone with potential to become a priest was important. Compared to ordinary people this young boy would have an easier time becoming one especially since he was still young and malleable which made loyalty easy to cultivate.

"Dead man! Summon you in Anubis's name!"

A mummy responded shakily after being summoned by Chen Xu but without relying on The Book Of Dead’s power it could only summon something of this level because his magic power was too weak.

If Imhotep's magical power after being completely resurrected was like a river, then Chen Xu's magical power at best was just a drop of water.

Chen Xu closed his eyes and sent the prepared breath into the mummy's spirit. "Go find that little boy."

After receiving orders, the mummy shook its body unsteadily and walked forward.

Following behind it through twists and turns, they finally stopped in front of a tattered tent.

"The little boy is here?" Chen Xu instructed the mummy to use force to open up the tent before hearing several screams of terror.

Seeing that summoning worked on them, Chen Xu walked into the tent saying: "I think your child has potential to become a priest so I plan on training him."

As an outsider from China trying to convince two parents who were biased against him would be difficult for him. Therefore he decided to let facts speak for themselves since there was something more well-known than even mummies in Egypt which could prove his identity - what else but The Great High Priest?

"Are you really The Great High Priest?" The boy's father trembled with fear as he spoke.

Mummies had already been deeply ingr

"He can be said to be the high priest." Chen Xu put on a smile that he thought was very kind, "Your child has the best talent I have ever seen, so I hope you will hand him over to me and let me cultivate him."

So far, he had only seen one talented child, of course it was the best.

"But..." The child's father hesitated a bit. Although this young priest in front of him looked very powerful (in his eyes, mystery and power were linked), he still didn't want his child to become a priest.

Chen Xu could see what he was hesitating about at a glance and decisively said: "We don't need circumcision as priests. We inherit the ancient Egyptian priesthood from 3,000 years ago."

"Okay." When he heard that there was no need for circumcision, the child's father agreed.

"Child, study hard." The child's mother also realized that she would soon be separated from her child and burst into tears.

"It's not like we're separating forever. He is just learning how to worship the gods with me," Chen Xu shook his head and said: "You can think of it as sending him off to school."

Chen Xu squatted down and looked at this little boy whom he had taken an interest in. "What is your name?"

"My name is Sulaiman," the child answered Chen Xu's question in his childish voice.

"Sulaiman, do you want big brother to teach you how to read?" Chen Xu tempted him: "Look over here at this weirdo. After you learn it, you can control him."

The boy followed where Chen Xu pointed and saw the mummy. He felt scared but curious too. "What is this?"

"A mummy - an ancient legend about mummies. If you become my student then you can command it," replied Chen Xu.

"Then I want to become your student."
