In the dark underground, the foul smell once again attacked Chen Xu's nose, making him uncomfortable.
This was his second time here. However, the first time he came, he immediately changed his plan and ran back up. The second time required him to go deeper into the underground.
Hamunaptra was a tomb of Egyptian pharaohs throughout history with various passages and treasures inside. To prevent outsiders from digging here, many traps were set up inside. Unfortunately, the poor prison warden was fascinated by fake gems here and ultimately died under the mouth of scarab beetles.
Chen Xu placed Necronomicon on the ground and opened his hands to cast magic without relying on its power.
"Death's obsession, resurrected living beings in Anubis' name!"
Black dust swept up as crimson light emerged from his eyes. Illusory portals opened in the underworld beyond.
There he sacrificed souls of those who died under locusts to Anubis for underworld power or magic.
Because it was his first sacrifice at that time, Anubis gave him extra rewards while also being particularly pleased with souls of God-fearing people among them.
With power obtained from Anubis himself through this ritualistic sacrifice ceremony called "Underworld Resurrection," he could easily cast any death-related spells like summoning undead creatures or spirits since one needed coordinates from there to communicate with it; otherwise summoning would fail.
Strands of black gas emerged from beneath portal leading into Underworld as ancient patterns gradually filled with blood until they completely covered it before opening wide open revealing a crackling red-black glow within which appeared an anthropomorphic figure holding a steel fork -Anubis- walking out behind it all along with illusory body accompanied by black smoke that had already enveloped entire area where Chen Xu stood unnoticed earlier on arrival down below earth surface level
"Young priest! You are only one who has communicated with the Underworld in nearly a century."
Anubis, the god of death in Egyptian mythology, was responsible for guarding the portal to the underworld and protecting bodies of deceased people on earth.
"Speak your request. Great Anubis will fulfill it."
"Respected Lord Anubis, I need coordinates from Underworld to cast spells related to summoning dead creatures or spirits," Chen Xu said respectfully.
He had no choice but to be respectful since he did not know whether this Anubis was really a deity or not. However, Chen Xu could feel his power.
"Young priest! Welcome you to learn magic related to death and deceased beings. But I must remind you that you cannot harm any souls." Death God Anubis reminded him.
"Yes, great Lord Anubis!"
Thinking about responsibilities of Death God Anubis made Chen Xu silent.
"Well then! Here are coordinates from Underworld." Death God Anubis waved his hand as an imprint appeared within Chen Xu's soul -the coordinates- which allowed him access into realm beyond life itself where undead creatures resided waiting for their next orders like Imhotep resurrecting Princess Nefertiri back from dead using Book of Amun-Ra centuries ago!
Everything slowly became illusory until it disappeared before his eyes.
"In name of Lord Anubis, I summon thee back from death!" With just one finger pointed at ground level below feet height-wise by few inches only; soil began piling up forming small mound-like structure while two hands emerged out pushing aside dirt revealing mummy wrapped in tattered white cloth stained with various colors indicating age and wear-and-tear over time making its movements unsteady as if lacking combat prowess altogether

However, Chen Xu didn't need it for fighting purposes; he only needed it find Evelyn O'Connell instead!
"Go find Evelyn O'Connell for me!"
Undead creatures were sensitive to the breath of living beings and could easily sense them within a radius of ten miles. The terrain in Hamunaptra couldn't stop undead creatures at all.
When Chen Xu summoned undead creature, Evelyn O'Connell had just escaped from fear.
"What is that thing?" Evelyn O'Connell patted her chest with small hands calming down her frightened heart. "It's too scary."
"Those are locusts. I probably offended some curse," Rick O'Connell picked up a torch and walked quickly while being cautious about his surroundings.
"It seems like Chen Xu didn't follow us." Jonathan Carnahan looked around and whispered, "Looks like he may have encountered misfortune as well. Unfortunately, he still hasn't given me the gold he promised."
"What gold?" Evelyn O'Connell turned her head to ask.
"Nothing," Jonathan Carnahan smiled awkwardly.
"Be careful!" Rick suddenly stopped ahead blocking path for both Evelyn and Jonathan as countless scarab beetles emerged from beneath ground level forming an army-like formation readying themselves for attack!
"Scarabs!" Evelyn exclaimed as she trembled uncontrollably.
"We need to go quickly," O'Connor pushed Evelyn back and retreated while firing his rifle at the scarabs.
With each shot, he killed a group of scarabs, but there were too many of them. They had formed a black river.
"Run faster!" O'Connor didn't struggle anymore and just followed Evelyn in running away.
Behind the scarabs was a mummy swaying its body as it walked like a candle in the wind that would be extinguished with one blow.
Chen Xu followed behind the mummy reciting spells continuously with a hint of joy on his face.
"These are scarabs. Evelyn and Imhotep should be ahead." Chen Xu wasn't afraid despite seeing so many terrifying creatures. For ordinary people, these scarabs were the most frightening creatures. Once caught by them, they would burrow into their bodies causing excruciating pain. If caught by an army of scarabs, everything except bones inside their bodies would be eaten up by these terrifying insects within moments.
But Chen Xu was not an ordinary person; possessing magic made him akin to an Egyptian apprentice priest who must learn how to control scarab beetles as part of their training in magic.
Ah!
A woman's scream drew Chen Xu's attention. "That should be Evelyn's voice; Imhotep should also be nearby."
Chen Xu immediately ran towards where the sound came from and saw Evelyn looking terrified with a creature covered in rotten flesh hanging off its bony frame standing not far ahead of her.
"Imhotep." The moment Chen Xu saw this creature, he knew it was his target for this trip and began chanting spells aloud: "Babatosu Babatosu Babatosu..."
Green light emanated from Chen Xu's hand which gradually condensed into a green arrow without needing any aiming or targeting assistance before piercing through Imhotep's heart area melting him down along with all connected bone fragments and flesh.
In no time, Imhotep's body was corroded halfway through. From the outside, he looked like a pitiful mummy with half of his body cut off.
"You dare to betray me?" Until now, there was still disbelief in Imhotep's eyes. In ancient Egypt, no priest dared to betray the high priest even if it meant going against Pharaoh's orders. For apprentice priests and priests alike, the high priest was their god and master.
Therefore when Chen Xu attacked him, he still felt as though he were dreaming; oh wait! Did mummies dream?
Sand swept towards Imhotep sticking onto his half-corroded body which quickly regenerated.
"What an annoying undead ability." Chen Xu muttered under his breath while beckoning Evelyn and O'Connor: "You guys go find the Sun Gold Scripture; only that can kill him."
"Nope! I can do it too!" Perhaps not wanting to be overshadowed by Chen Xu, O'Connor shouted loudly raising his rifle before firing at Imhotep's head accurately hitting him causing strong impact force that shattered his skull into pieces. The seemingly indestructible Imhotep immediately fell on the ground dead.
"See? Even bones that have been decaying for so long are fragile," said O'Connor stubbornly.
"You cannot kill him," knowing how this story went well enough himself; Chen Xu understood that only the Sun Gold Scripture could completely destroy Imhotep. Attacking him with modern firearms would only temporarily seal off his movements but after a while he would continue resurrecting again.
"I already killed him," insisted O'Connor firmly.
Chen Xu didn't want to argue with O'Connor and just raised his head saying calmly: "Then should we go find the Sun Gold Scripture?"
"Okay." Without waiting for O'Connor's response, Evelyn answered instead: "Since the monster is dead let us go find the Sun Gold Scripture."
