Just as recorded in history, Hitler failed. His plan to "march on Berlin" failed and he himself was imprisoned, cut off from the outside world.
In retrospect, Hitler was quite foolish at that time. He thought that by kidnapping key figures, he could control the military. However, he did not realize that the military could not be controlled by these figures in a democratic system where military power is separate from legislative power. These legislators simply cannot control the military if it does not want to be controlled.
He paid for his immaturity but this experience also helped him mature and transform a small Nazi party into a super Nazi party with hundreds of thousands of soldiers.
Chen Xu and Suleiman walked into a small tavern near the prison.
"Sir, what can I get you?" greeted an enthusiastic Jewish girl.
"A beer please." Chen Xu took out a pound sterling from his pocket and threw it to her.
While Germany's economy collapsed, pound sterling remained strong and widely used around the world even more so than future US dollars. It could even serve as official currency in British colonies. In countries like Germany, it had value beyond its own currency.
However, Chen Xu only used pounds because he didn't want to carry around stacks of marks everywhere he went.
The Jewish girl's eyes lit up as she quickly put away the pound sterling into her purse before saying nonchalantly: "Please wait."
She turned back and grabbed a clean glass from behind the beer rack before pouring beer into it. Her expression showed hesitation and struggle but eventually she handed over the beer to Chen Xu while staring at him intently.
The face value of one pound sterling was only equivalent to 240 pence (in this era one pound equals 240 pence instead of later when one pound equals 100 pence). This price obviously exceeded that of just one glass of beer.
Chen Xu lowered his head and drank the beer in front of him. Suleiman behind him showed obvious anger, feeling that this Jewish girl was too greedy.
"You..."
"Solomon." Chen Xu called his disciple who was about to speak and instructed him to wait at the door to see if any guests were coming.
Seeing that this gentleman seemed not to pursue the matter of her stolen pounds, the Jewish girl felt justified in treating them as her own tip, even though no one would use pounds as a tip, even just one pound, especially in Germany.
Humming a song that Chen Xu couldn't understand, the Jewish girl happily ran away from him. Chen Xu paid no attention.
Soon Solomon came running over excitedly with a person wearing a black robe behind him.
"Teacher, this is the sneaky person you mentioned."
The person in the black robe heard this and turned green under their hidden face. He thought he wasn't really being sneaky despite dressing mysteriously.
But he didn't dare argue because just now this seemingly small boy had performed some kind of mummy summoning technique in front of him and threatened him that if he didn't obey, he would turn into a mummy.
God knows although he did not believe in God himself it did not mean that he was not afraid of demons. In his mind right now this young boy was on par with demons themselves.
"What's your name?" Chen Xu raised his glass and showed a friendly smile towards the person wearing black robes before him.
"Schmidt." Schmidt honestly revealed his name.
"Schmidt huh? Are you here to see Hitler for something?" The smile on Chen Xu's face grew stronger.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
During this time period, he had been considering who helped Hitler publish "Mein Kampf," including German Nazi Party members and others such as Americans or British people. Considering Imhotep appeared in this world too recently so all movies related to Hitler were reviewed by him again. Finally several conclusions were drawn among which included Schmidt’s name.
Although many people may be unfamiliar with Schmidt's name but those who have seen the movie "Captain America" should know about Red Skull, and Schmidt was his name before he injected himself with serum.
Therefore, when Schmidt revealed his name, Chen Xu confirmed that he was the person in history who helped Hitler publish "Mein Kampf."
"To help him escape from prison." Schmidt honestly said without any concealment.
Although he agreed with Hitler's ideas and believed that only Hitler could save Germany and was willing to sacrifice his life for it. It did not mean that he wanted to go to hell after death.
In fact, for people who do not believe in God or hell, death is not scary. For noble ideals they can die because they feel that death is also a kind of liberation. But when mythical powers appear suddenly one day they realize that death is not liberation but another beginning of torture so their worldview collapses.
"Is that so?" Chen Xu shook his red wine glass. Despite taking several sips, the liquid inside remained unchanged. He preferred to feel the intoxicating sensation brought by alcohol.
"The wine doesn't intoxicate people; people intoxicate themselves." This situation was probably what this saying meant.
"Yes," Schmidt answered honestly.
"But what if I don't let you save him?" A cold smile appeared on Chen Xu's lips as he spoke. "Will you resent me?"
"I wouldn't dare." Schmidt trembled and fell to the ground in fear. "Schmidt wouldn't dare to resent the great wizard."
Chen Xu was surprised by this scene, but then adjusted his plan in his mind - a plan to expand his power.
"I wonder if you would like to become a servant of the wizard."
"I would love to." Schmidt knelt down and kissed Chen Xu's toes, just like how medieval nobles showed absolute loyalty towards royalty.
Chen Xu suppressed his disgust as he watched Schmidt complete this action, knowing full well what it represented: kissing someone's toes symbolized absolute loyalty and submission. It was a gesture of humility from lowly individuals towards those who were most noble. This custom existed not only in Western countries but also during ancient Egyptian times when nobles performed such gestures towards priests and pharaohs alike.
It turned out that many Western customs had similarities with those found in Egypt.
"Very good, now that you have become my servant, take charge of managing the Dark Council for me," said Chen Xu.
He would soon leave Germany for China and needed someone to manage the Dark Council on behalf of its members while he was away. Solomon himself was an option, but Chen Xu hoped that Solomon would continue delving deeper into magic and rituals instead of being bogged down by worldly affairs.
Schmidt presented himself as an excellent candidate since limited information about him indicated exceptional military talent - something which Chen Xu believed would enable Schmidt to manage the Dark Council in his stead.
"Very well, come with me to see Hitler. I need to offer him some help."
This was a prison that looked nothing like the one where Chen Xu had arrived when he first crossed over. The iron windows, walls, and clean cells resembled rooms found in small roadside inns - they were probably comfortable to sleep in if one could overcome their psychological barriers.
Hitler was clearly not someone who could overcome such barriers. He sat on the only bed inside the cell with his hands clasped between his legs and head hung low, looking lost and hopeless.
For him, as an ambitious person, this is an unacceptable outcome. He is not allowed to see anyone while being imprisoned in the cell, including his followers.
He can almost imagine what kind of suppression the Nazi Party will face after he leaves. He can also imagine how the party will disintegrate without him. This is an undeniable fact.
"But he can't do anything, he's powerless. If he escapes, his political career will be over. No one will obey the orders of a fugitive."
"Hey! Hitler!"
Schmidt led the way and Chen Xu followed closely behind. Soon they bypassed the guards and arrived at Hitler's cell door. Obviously, Schmidt had already investigated this place.
Hitler looked up and saw three strangers in black robes, immediately confused.
As someone who was hands-on with everything, he knew his small party inside out. He could remember every member and call them by name. He was proud of this ability even though it was limited to just remembering names.
"My name is Chen Xu, leader of the Dark Council," said Chen Xu as he took off his black robe to reveal his true self.
"The Dark Council? Vampires? Werewolves? Are you kidding me? How could those legendary creatures exist?" exclaimed Hitler.
"Vampires? Werewolves? Is that how you see the Dark Council?" sneered Chen Xu. "But I guess it can be said that industrial capitalists are vampires since they suck workers' blood and exploit their surplus value."
"As for werewolves... let me think... those stubborn guys who dig food from the land are really like werewolves."
He was referring to Junker aristocrats - ancient nobles who owned land - who were so similar to werewolves: both were old-fashioned, rustic people who shared a common hatred for vampires.
For Junkers, capitalists lured all farmers on their lands into factories while bankrupting them; before World War I broke out, Germany's main contradiction focused on capitalists versus Junkers.
"As for me... I suppose I'm a wizard too."
Chen Xu chuckled.
