Chapter 5:Arrived at Hamnata

"I hate camels," said the prison warden as he rode on a camel, looking at it with complaints.

"But this is your property," Chen Xu replied, his legs straddling the camel's neck and his body leaning against the white board between its humps. He spoke leisurely.

"Why can you enjoy it while I can't?" The prison warden saw how comfortable Chen Xu was and complained, "I want that seat of yours."

Chen Xu's seat was relatively small, fixed between the camel's humps. However, the chair back was very long and padded with fur all over to Chen Xu's neck. It was very comfortable.

"But I don't want gold. If you don't want gold either, I can give it to you." Chen Xu chuckled.

The sun in the desert gradually set down; the originally scorching weather began to turn cold. Chen Xu put on a coat to resist the upcoming chilliness.

"Reminder: nights in deserts are very cold; it’s best to wrap yourself up tightly."

"I hate deserts."

"You hate gold."

"I don’t hate gold!" The prison warden glared at Chen Xu angrily. "Whoever dares touch my gold will have to face me!"

"But I didn't touch your gold, Your Excellency Warden." Chen Xu shrugged helplessly. "It’s those damn Americans who came for your gold.”

"What American nonsense! One comes and one dies; two come and one pair dies!" The prison warden stared fiercely with killing intent.

"Well then," said Chen Xu squinting his eyes playfully. "You can go fight those Americans directly if you like."

"Why?"

"Because they're right behind you."

The prison warden turned around immediately but got scared when he saw them approaching him from behind. “Damn these Americans! Why are there so many people?”

"It’s because they share our same idea," Chen Xu shook his head. "They just think that people are safer, while you think camels are safer."

"It was clearly your idea." The prison warden glared at Chen Xu and rode towards O'Connor.

No matter how one looked at it, those Americans were not easy to mess with. Their guns hanging from their waists and cowboy attire made it clear they were ready to fight for their lives.

"O'Connor, what should we do now?" Evelyn asked softly.

"Don't mind them; let's go our own way," O'Connor replied with his head down.

"Oh."

The yellow sand formed a vast desert. Occasionally, the wind blew up sand grains that stung the face. Chen Xu took out a scarf to cover his face.

As the sun completely set down, darkness enveloped everything; piercing coldness came upon them. Chen Xu instinctively put on another piece of clothing and felt better.

The desert was silent except for the sound of camel footsteps.

Chen Xu tied himself with a rope and tied himself together with the chair before lying comfortably on top of it.

"I envy you so much for being so well-prepared," said the prison warden enviously.

"I protest! Why can you be so comfortable?" Jones complained too.

"You guys didn't come to the desert without any preparation did you?" Chen Xu was surprised. "You don’t think that once in the desert means finding Hamunaptra right away?"

Having watched movies and remembered plotlines, Chen Xu naturally remembered that searching for Hamunaptra required one day and night time; thus he prepared adequately beforehand

The prison warden blushed then shouted loudly: "I've never been to a desert before! How would I know?"

"Me neither!" Jones echoed him.

"Really pitiful." Chen Xu shook his head. "But I only prepared one for myself. If you come next time, I'll prepare for you guys. Sorry about that."

Although he apologized, there was no sincerity in his words.

The warden and Johnson had no choice but to accept their fate.

Time passed slowly, and Chen Xu was awakened by someone while sleeping soundly. He waved his hands unconsciously a few times before waking up from his sleep.

"Are we here?"

"We're already here," O'Connor said calmly. "But those damn Americans followed us."

"I don't care about the Americans," Chen Xu said casually. "Hamunaptra can't be conquered just by having more people."

As the sun rose, light gradually spread over the earth, and ripples appeared in the air like water. A desolate city stood on top of the desert.

"Is this Hamunaptra?" Johnson looked at what was happening in front of him with surprise and rubbed his eyes instinctively. "I'm not seeing things; this is really Hamunaptra!"

"It's unbelievable how great ancient Egyptian wisdom is." Evelyn opened her mouth wide enough to fit a duck egg inside it.

"I didn't believe it either at first," O'Connor said.

"This is the power of magic." Chen Xu roared in his heart, "This is the power of ancient Egyptian spells! Soon I will have this kind of power - enough to cover up a great city."

"Let's go inside."

"We should go inside first." The American cowboy shouted as he picked up speed on horseback and galloped past them with hoofbeats ringing out loudly.

"These damn Americans!" O'Connor also felt ambitious when provoked; he whipped his whip against camels' backsides to drive them forward along with horses through the desert sands racing each other towards their destination.

"What should we do?" The warden asked helplessly.

"Of course, we should charge forward." Evelyn patted the camel and stumbled forward.

"This kind of thing doesn't suit me." Johnson saw the cowboys and O'Connor fighting and retreated slightly.

"Let's go." Chen Xu flicked his whip, hitting the camel's backside to catch up with them.

"According to the plot, those guards will come next. Then there will be a fight with Americans and Imhotep's resurrection."

"Before Imhotep is resurrected, as long as we follow O'Connor and Evelyn, nothing bad will happen."

Chen Xu recalled the plot of "The Mummy," looking for an appropriate time to take possession of The Book of Amun-Ra.

After entering Hamunaptra, Chen Xu found Evelyn and silently followed behind her without saying a word.

Now was a moment of calm before the storm; he needed to grasp The Book of Amun-Ra before Imhotep was resurrected or else he would have no chance against him.

"This is the statue of Anubis," Evelyn held up her umbrella. "Anubis' legs are deep in the ground with cracks inside it where they say that Ra's golden book is hidden."

"Why don't you aim your mirror at sunlight?" Johnson asked while holding out one of their copper mirrors.

"What use are these bronze mirrors?" O'Connor fixed it in place then ran over asking: "It’s an ancient mirror!"

"It’s an Egyptian trick; you'll know when it comes time," corrected Evelyn about what type of mirror they had brought along.

After setting up their equipment properly, everyone went down below into Hamunaptra - except for some Americans who went off in another direction instead.

"And then there's light refraction." After flipping over The Mirror Of Isis (the ancient Egyptian name), using its reflection on sunlight outside to refract the light inside.

The faint stench in the air stimulated Chen Xu's nostrils, and his heart was nervous yet excited. He was nervous about the impending danger but excited about obtaining that power within reach.

"No, I'm wrong." Chen Xu suddenly realized something; he raised his hand and said: "You guys go down first. I won't be going down."

He remembered that there were still scarab beetles' skeletons below where the warden had died on top of them along with American workers who had been melted by acid. In fact, Hamunaptra's underground was very dangerous - full of traps everywhere. If one wasn't careful, they would trigger a mechanism and die inside it.

On the other hand, before Imhotep is resurrected, Hamunaptra's surface is quite safe; those guards only dare to attack at night and will never confront Americans head-on since they have already suffered from their hands on board their ship.

As long as he found good cover for himself, he could easily pass through day and night without any problems - especially with those camels brought over which made things even more comfortable for
