Chapter 16: My Town, My Sect, My Home

Serra gazed at the barren continent, towards the ruins of his former home.

Towards this, Serra felt nostalgic and sorrowful.

With a thought, a blue sphere covered the entire land.

Within this sphere, time itself seemed to reverse.

The buildings seemed to get younger and it's ruins were slowly being restored to their former glory.

The blue sphere then faded revealing the town once more.

Mighty walls impenetrable to any foe.

A tall castle of stone.

A town that seemed quite lively but without a single soul in sight.

"One day, I'll restore this city to it's former shape... But before that..."

Serra began to fall.

He descended slowly upon the land almost like an immortal arriving from heaven.

Then, he began to walk slowly towards the city.

Within a few moments, he arrived at it's mighty gates.

Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.

He closed his eyes.

He remembered the time when he returned here as a mighty hero of the sect.

He remembered how the gates opened at the cheers and roars of his people.

He remembered their joy, their passion, as they called his name.

Serra slowly opened his eyes.

With but a thought, the mighty gates opened.

Serra walked towards the town lost in memories.

He remembered the faces and names of his fellow disciples, his comrades, his family, his teacher and all his friends in this town.

The town where he was born.

He walked in the midst of the town alone in silence.

After a while, he arrived in a secluded space in the city.

Before his eyes was a small wooden house made of rotting wood.

It was of poor condition.

But even so, Serra walked towards its door.

Filled with nostalgia in his voice, he spoke as knocked.

"Mother, I'm back."

Even if he knew that his voice will never reach the one he intended to speak to.

He opened the door.

*Creaaaak*

Within the wooden house, was a small bed made of rags and a few boxes.

Serra returned this town to the time from when he returned here that day.

He slowly walked towards the small bed with tears in eyes.

He slowly stroked the bed.

He then lied in the bed.

His bed.

He closed his eyes as remembered his mother.

Her gentle smile, her kind voice and her eyes brimming with understanding and love.

"Mother... I'm finally back home. My town, my sect, my home... Sorry it took me, your foolish son so long..."

He slowly opened his eyes.

"In this world, I am the supreme ruler. In the Higher Planes, I am an emperor who rules over all. Who can order the rise and fall of countless living beings. But in this small house, I am nothing more than your foolish son."

He went towards his the door and closed it.

He returned to his bed and lay in it once more.

Closing his eyes, he began to dream of his early days in a time long, long ago...

When he was not the Winter King, Serra Recquir, founder of the Recquir Empire.

When he was just a young child hoping to become a man his mother would be proud of.

Slowly, he fell asleep.
