“What’s the plan?” Nigel asked Blanka.
“I’ve been holding off mobs of people for hours. I had to dodge several blasts from a UFO above Boston. There’s less cyborg activity down here, but it’s been difficult just trying to survive,” Blanka said.
Fog and low cloud cover made traveling north an arduous process. After about thirty minutes, Blanka landed atop a hospital.
“The roof will give us cover and it will be easier holding off an attack while we plan our next move,” Blanka said.
“What happened to the others?” Nigel asked.
Blanka’s explanation of her arrival made it sound like a science fiction movie. If Nigel knew the girls, they would infiltrate Doc Chop’s high-tech operations center and bring it down.
“In New York, I was able to decrypt much of the information that Professor Paladin wanted. As it turns out, the government had a top secret craft in a hangar in an undisclosed location in New England. He must have figured out a way to steal it,” Nigel said.
“You’re the tech whiz, but wouldn’t that require a lot of engineering?” Blanka asked.
“Yes, but since Doc Chop absorbs the memories and knowledge of the cybernetically enhanced, it wouldn’t take much to hijack something like this. All he would need to do is reprogram the necessary information into someone’s implants, then put them to work,” Nigel replied.
“There is something else. Doc Chop is spraying the green gas from that UFO thing. It’s probably already infected half the city by now.”

Nigel looked into her eyes. “What do you propose we do?” He had thoroughly fallen in love with all of Dahlia’s assassins, but he held a particular fondness for Blanka. Nigel preferred the commanding presence of strong women, and she was all that and more. She was beauty, brains, and brawn all rolled into one striking package. When he first met her, she had been ordered to seduce him. Little did she know that they would truly fall in love.
“We need to get onto that vessel. Do you think you can land on it?” Nigel asked.
Blanka shook her head. “There’s no good landing area. Besides, its movements are too erratic to land safely.”
Nigel sighed.
Why is nothing ever easy for a change?
“Then how are we going to get on that ship?”
“Since you are not trained in combat, I will need to guide you.”
“But you’re flying the helicopter.”
“She’s not the only pilot, bonehead,” Sally said.
Nigel smiled. He’d never been happier to be insulted. “Then I think we have a plan.”
Blanka and Sally took turns preparing the helicopter. Blanka’s decision to land atop a hospital was a brilliant move. There was a fuel tank atop the building, and April found some offices and rooms they could secure. The idea was to keep Jet, April, and Jerry safe in the hospital while Nigel and Blanka infiltrated Doc Chop’s flying ship.
“Jet would like to talk to you, Nigel,” April said.
Nigel was so busy helping with the mission prep, he didn’t even notice anything anyone else was doing.
“Sure, I’ll be right there,” he said.
Nigel didn’t know what he was going to say to Jet. She had clearly moved on, and wasn’t exactly inviting him back into her life. He took in a breath, then followed April inside the hospital. What was that business with Sally, anyway? Are they together now? Nigel still loved Jet, but he didn’t think he was in love with her anymore. He still had a soft spot in his heart for her. She had opened him up to another world—the Dark Web—that he’d never known existed. Jet was his first love. Now that she’d found someone else, he should be happy for her, and he was, but he couldn’t quite get over the pang of jealousy when seeing her with Sally. Even so, he was happy for her in his own way.
