After two days of searching in poor conditions, Jet’s companions were losing their patience. They had searched the remains of the chateau for far too long. Jet knew she should let them go. The tire tracks and April’s conversation were conclusive proof that Nigel had moved on.
Nigel’s been through a lot and he is heading back home. I should too, Jet thought. She watched Sally approach and felt useless for not being able to help. If one of Damien’s men had not built her a wheelchair, she didn’t know what she would do.
“We’re going back to base. You should come with us. There isn’t anything left for you here,” Sally said.
Jet gave the teen a thoughtful look. “I just wanted him to know that—”

Jet couldn’t hold it together any longer. She let the tears come. Sally put a comforting hand on Jet’s shoulder.
“Sally, come. You have a message,” one soldier said.
Jet’s newfound pilot friends seemed to be well connected. She heard snippets of conversation about attacks in major US cities and military bases.
Is this really happening?
Sally was talking to someone on a radio. She wouldn’t imagine who it was, but she had a strange feeling that whoever it was was connected to her and Nigel somehow. A few moments later, Sally hurried back.
“Do you know a Milo?”
“It’s Nigel’s best friend.”
“He says he knows the cabal’s next move. Do you know what that means?” Sally asked.
How does Milo know about the cabal? He’s in touch with Nige!
“The cabal causes many deaths. They are the ones who put you up to bombing us. I’m sure of it,” Jet said.
Sally frowned. “Well, that’s something to consider. I will need to discuss with father.”
