Chapter 35 - I'm not worth it

Bahyun stayed awake for the entire night in the interrogation room. He couldn’t think of anything to turn the situation around, ending up with eye bags, stubble on his chins, reddened eyes and a pallid complexion, as if he had experienced some sort of torturous interrogation. In fact, all he did was sit there and tense himself with things Morganite couldn’t understand.

Morganite gazed at the man in the room, feeling confused. Not only the man tensing himself without reason, but he also refused to eat anything, as if he weren’t hungry at all. Even when Morganite asked for some midnight snack from her friends outside the room, he declined. She suspecting he was keeping a secret with a deadline, but that was just her guess.

Whatever was playing on their minds came to an end when time was up, and they had to release Bahyun. He was happy to leave the room but stunned when he saw Almandine surrounded by a few people in the building.

“Bahyun.” Almandine furrowed her brows when she saw his messy appearance, “Were you building a model overnight again?”

Do I look like I could be building a model over here? Bahyun’s expression tense for a moment, but soon relaxed as he observed Almandine in detail to confirm she was unharmed. Then, he turned his attention to Otmeen, who stood aside, “She had nothing to do with my case. Why did you bring her here?”

“It doesn’t matter if she had anything to do with your case. She seemed suspicious, and we can’t just ignore it. We are law enforcers, and I trust that you are very clear about this.” Otmeen smiled with hidden intent, “There are no traces of her in the public camera surveillance, no data found in the citizen records, your neighbors and colleagues have only a brief impression of her, and could recall her details when they saw her. The only exception is my brother. We live together, so he’s a bit immune to certain magic, thus had a strong impression of her when I asked about it. Plus, she seemed unusually skinny. I had to make a wild guess that you, Mr. Qen, had done something immoral and tortured a girl to this extent...”

Stolen novel; please report.

“Bahyun is a nice guy.” Almandine cut Otmeen’s words with her usual calm and cold gaze, “I’m skinny because I’m going to die soon. It has nothing to do with Bahyun.”

The words dropped so casually, as if she was just mentioning she went to see a movie, but they hit the room like thunder, loud and shocking everyone present.

Otmeen hadn’t expected to hear this from Dark-Morganite. She had been merely trying to tease Bahyun, as her brother praised his senior like the man was his saviour. And at the same time, she had hoped to pressure Bahyun into cooperating better with the Special Mage Armed Force, perhaps even considering an affiliation in the future. This was totally unexpected.

“You’re kidding, right?” Almandine felt her shoulder being grabbed, and Morganite, her lifelong rival, looked at her with sorrow beneath the beautiful eyes, asking in disbelief...wait, if her rival is here, then this wasn’t Bahyun’s other office!

This was the Mages’ office, and Bahyun was captured?!

Almandine freed herself in a swift move, leaping to the front of Bahyun and transforming into her dark pink battle gear, her body tensed in battle mode like a cat puffing itself up when alerted.

“Answer me! You’re just kidding, right?” Morganite refused to accept Almandine’s words, especially not after she could finally welcoming her sister back to the Special Mage Armed Force, “You’re not dying, right? This isn’t funny...”

“I’m not kidding.” Almandine relaxed a bit when she realized they weren’t about to fight. She turned and looked at Bahyun, who turned his head away avoiding her gaze. “You’ve been acting weird lately. I thought you were just moving to a new office. But you didn’t come back yesterday, and your sister said she would take me to your office so I could recognize the route...This is the Mages place. You’re hunting the halved FayOra.”

Bahyun sensed her anger and smiled to placate her, “Congratulations, you got all the answers correct!”

“I’ve told you I’m not dumb, and stop smiling, it looks ugly.” Almandine shook her head, “I’m destined to die, and the least I hope for is to not see you hurt because of me. I’m not worth it.”

You’re a human, and I’m just a magic circuit. You are far more important than me.

Bahyun was unhappy with her reply, “I think you’re worth it, and your death isn’t destined!”

I must have reincarnated with a purpose. Meeting you, and saving you...You are my purpose in this world.
