Chapter 33 - He's my sister?

Bahyun was terribly shocked.

He released the ice blade but remained stunned, unable to dispel the ice cage as he stared in disbelief at the back of the familiar figure. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined finding his younger sister serving as a Mage, let along a Mage transformed into a boy!

Sis, why did you choose to become a boy? You always said you’d never want to be a guy because you think they’re are all stinky!

Finally, her sneeze snapped him out of his random thought. Hastily, he dispelled the ice cage gently lowered his sister back to the ground.

In typical sibling fashion, Bahryn cared little about her manners when in front of her brother. She casually reached out to grab his shawl, which had been wrapped around his head, and wiped away her sniffles after the sneezes. Yup, that’s what siblings were for! Younger sister constantly asserting her dominance over their elder brother.

Bahyun looked at the shawl he used to keep the wind out, now smeared with sniffles, with a twitch in the corner of his lips. He felt awfully disgusted when his sister tossed it back to him. Without a second thought, he activated a tiny rune, setting the shawl ablaze until it turned to dust. “See, you are obviously dirtier than me! Are you sure you could get a boyfriend with that attitude?”

Bahryn retorted with a mock, “Well, I though you might worry that I would look for a girlfriend, since I’m irresistible with my gorgeous male look after I transform.”

“...” This conversation felt entirely too surreal for an old-fashioned guy like him. Since when did his cute little sister become such a indescribable being? She seemed perfectly normal the last time they met.

“Alright, let’s clean up this place first, and then we can talk.” Bahryn declared, surveying the contaminated ground beneath her feet with disdain. Without the power she wielded after transformation, she was as vulnerable as any human, susceptible to illness if exposed to dark energy for too long. There were still no guarantee that those who fell ill due to dark energy infection would fully recovered; some remained hospitalized, enduring long-term suffering. This was why, despite becoming a Mage, Bahryn’s jurisdiction remained a small and remote town. Before transformation, she was too weak, the disparity between her forms was too significant. If she ever found herself unable to leave the polluted land before she reverting back from Earth Dragon, she might perish instantly. Given these risks, she ended up solo, as no one could synchronize with her. The best option, provided by the Special Mage Armed Force, was this remote location, with a very low probability of being invaded by dark beast.

Bahryn led a remarkably low-profile life as a Mage. Sometimes, she even questioned whether she deserved the allowances she received from the authorities, considering she rarely encountered any dark beast in her jurisdiction. Instead, she often utilized her Mage status to roam the Chro Forest, scavenging and collecting samples for laboratory research, contributing significantly to labs affiliated with the authorities and colleges.

She had anticipated peacefully completing her service time, successfully remaining anonymous in the media and Mage circles. Never did she imagine encountering her brother in such a situation, where he, an ordinary person as she had believed, bested her with his use of dark energy and superior magical abilities.

To her astonishment, Bahyun effortlessly contained all the scattered dark energy from their recent battle into a palms-size card. The intricate pentacles and runes inscribed on the card were beyond her understanding, despite her studies in magic at the Mages’ office. With a few more runes, Bahyun smoothed over the disasters caused by their skirmish, erasing any traces of the chaos they had unleashed. Only now did Bahryn realize her brother’s extraordinary mastery of runes and dark energy, surpassing even the magic researchers in the authorities’ lab.

“FayOra works best when intact.” Bahryn observed, her gaze meeting Bahyun’s as he responded with solemnity, “I suppose you need it because you have the other half...Dark-Morganite is with you, right? Let me guess...the girl you picked up a few months ago?”

Bahyun nodded, his emotions mixed. Discuss such serious matters with his sister was unexpected, especially before she had fully matured.

“I do know where the halved stone is,” Bahryn continued, appearing relaxed. “Not just me, everyone in the department know its location. It’s not really a secret; anyone with indirect connections to Mages could find out easily. It’s a stone that no one can make use of, after all. You can simple ask any Mages on the battlefield, and they’d likely give you the answer too...Bro, you’re being dumb risking your life for information that’s readily available.”

A flush of embarrassment crept over Bahyun as he realized the simplicity of the situation. Yet, a nagging feeling told him something was amiss...he sensed something odd...Crap! She’s buying time!

“Too late.” a set of green transparent bars suddenly appeared, encaging Bahyun within as Bahryn dropped her words. Turning around in a flurry, he saw a Mage in light blue attire raising a staff higher than her, the stone of the staff pointed at him as if waiting to attack if he proved uncontrollable. The green cage was from Jadaite, and the staff belonged to Paraiba; the Precaria Gem Squad had arrived, just for him.

“Where is she?” Morganite leaped in front of him from above, her expression no longer resembling the gentle girl in the news but rather one of rage. “Why do you need the other half of the FayOra? What have you done to her!”

Bahryn, who revealed herself after Morganite, shrugged and gave Bahryn, who was in disbelief, a sympathetic look, “Well, bro, you can’t blame me. You ‘seemed to have a connection with the dark realm’, and ‘seemed to be able to control the dark energy’. It would be natural to assume you’ll do something antisocial, perhaps act as a terrorist causing havoc. Though I don’t think you would do so, I still need to turn you over since I’m a law enforcer as well. So, we need you to report to our office for investigation, and if everything is fine, then nothing will go wrong. Mom and dad will know nothing about this. Peace and great.”

Morganite, on the other had, held by Cymophane on the shoulder, reassured the enraged Mage, “Yeah, let’s head back to our office first. Maybe everything will be fine if we just have a talk, right?”

Morganite was doing her best to push away her imagination of “after running free from the humanoid dark beast, Dark-Morganite was captured by a mad scientist who would dissect her for a crazy experiment”. She took a deep breath and shouted as she turned to her back, “Back to the office!”
