The hug was so brief that Almandine barely had time to process what had happened or feel the warmth of the incoming Mage. It took her a moment to realize the welcoming signal from the Mage, and she wondered why the Mage in front of her looked different from what she remembered.
She recalled that Morganite had once harbored hatred towards her, wishing to wipe her off the surface of the world. However, the Morganite she met on the battlefield now appeared genuinely happy to see her, with no apparent ulterior motive.
Almandine quickly shook away these random thoughts, leaping to dodge a claw attacking her, and continued her battle. The earpiece stuck in her one of her ears transmitted Bahyun’s instructions, “The transmission channel finally connected! Stability maintained at 90%. You can start smashing the bugs now, Almandine. Activate the receiver I gave you just now. Remember, 2 seconds of charging time, release the blast within 5 seconds, and a 10-second cooldown period after each blast. I’m watching you here, backing you up, and recharging the receiver for you after each blast. So, no worries, go ahead and take out those beasts!”
Bahyun would choose to battle if he had the chance, and not Almandine who had just recovered from the danger caused by him. However, he was the only one in the house who knew how to direct and transmit dark energy stored in the batteries through magic into the receiver held in Almandine’s hand. The dark energy needed to mix with a certain amount of light energy to keep it stable. Thus, he hid in his apartment which was a place near the battlefield, sitting amidst piles of dark energy-charged batteries, closely watching the situation so he could recharge the receiver, which is a penlight but had been reconstructed to receive transmitted dark energy by Bahyun.
“Okay.” Almandine muttered into the mic extended from the earpiece crawling on her cheek. She pressed the button on the receiver and held it for two seconds, releasing a blast of light aimed at the Black Stone on a dark beast’s chest just as a tentacle slammed toward her, which she managed to dodge with a leap to her left.
A tiny but delicate pentacle accumulated in front of the receiver before it blasted out a light tinged with black that emitted a dangerous aura. The light hit sharply on the Black Stone, piercing it within seconds and breaking it into pieces in just a glimpse. The dark beast hadn’t managed to let out its cry of pain before disappearing into dust.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
With just one simple shot, a dark beast perished, leaving Morganite wide-eyed in disbelief.
She knew this was not magic granted by FayOra, and it definitely wasn’t magic they had both learned and mastered. She had initially thought it was a magical weapon when she noticed it held in Dark-Morganite’s hand, but she never imagined it would be so powerful.
There had never been such a powerful magical weapon with such a small size.
To prevent powerful magical weapon from falling into the wrong hands or being misused, all magical weapon were registered with multiple activation orders, such as voice control and thumbprint activation. For highly confidential weapons, the mana frequency of the user was also included. That’s why Bahyun was so confused when he first saw Mages in the news when he was a toddler and mistook it for some sort of Magical Girl kids show. Each time Mages activated a lethal blow, they had to shout the activation order - which sounded kind of nerdy in Bahyun’s opinion – so the weapon could detect and receive the order amidst chaotic battle with loud banging and crushing sounds.
Bahyun always thought it looked kind of stupid to shout their moves loudly, doubting that the enemy would be so foolish as to ignore the imminent lethal blow and not take action to stop it. He only discovered the requirement to activate the lethal blow quite recently when he utilized the supercomputer in The Star and surfed the government’s database. Surprisingly, the activation order was not decided by Mages or other authorities, but rather an instinctual call of spells granted by the FayOra, as this would be the best combination to achieve the greatest effect. This revelation prompted Bahyun to finally take Mages seriously and dive into the archive of histories, rather than receiving information passively from daily life.
Morganite had other plans when she fought the dark beasts on the battlefield. But her plan changed when she saw the efficiency of the magical weapon brought by Almandine. Instead of fighting at the frontline, she assisted Almandine by blocking all the attacks directed at Almandine.
Almandine noticed Morganite’s change and adjusted her position accordingly, waving the receiver in her hand faster. Three more dark beasts were down in just a minute.
Now, the battlefield was bound within barriers made of dark pink gem shards. Only twelve dark beast remained, and the other four members of the Precaria Gem Squad finally arrived.
