Chapter 24 - Welcome home

Snowmay’s true identity would have been easily discovered back in her teenage years, but after almost ten years, she had grown into an adult with a mature appearance and height. No one would connect her to Morganite and assume she was a Mage. However, after her transformation, she look exactly like she did when she had just begun her Mage career.

But now, the person leaping nonstop on the battlefield looked exactly like the matured Snowmay. That’s why Snowmay recognized the person at first glance: she was the dark version replica of Morganite, whom they named Dark-Morganite.

The dark replica team was said to have been taken out by Special Mage Armed Force in widely known news report, but that was not the real case. The dark replica ware killed by their enraged master who created them, and only one managed to escape after severe injured.

“Pieces of junk! You are all useless!” The humanoid dark beast seemed to be wearing a mask, but it might have been his skull, born with vibrant and eerie colors.

Back then, the Precaria Gem Squad were innocent and naïve newbies. They could terminate the dark beasts without blinking an eye, but it was hard for them to fight against another five who looked and spoke exactly like them. That’s why they were bound during the battle with their dark replicas. They tried their best to persuade their dark counterparts to join them, to befriend them, and to become humans knew love and hate.

The dark replicas knew nothing about this world ever since they were born, as they were weapons crafted for destruction. They didn’t understand why they needed to fight and only complied with every order given by their master. They had no independent thoughts before meeting the Precaria Gem Squad. However, after each battle with the squad, they began to think and take a softer stance. Eventually, they even looked forward to the next battle order because it was the only time they could have the chance to see the squad, listen to what the squad would say, and imagine what their lives would be like if they were no longer weapons.

The dark replicas gradually went easy on the squad, starting to be overcome by them, and finally captured by them when two more Mages came to assist. Well, this was obviously just an excuse used by the dark replicas to find a chance to speak with the squad; escaping the magical chains on their arms was just a piece of cake.

Among them all, Morganite and Dark-Morganite were the pair who first reached the common thought of getting to know each other. Dark-Morganite seemed to understand the suffering of being a weapon and hoped to be freed from their Master. Morganite released her, hugged her in joys and tears.

Just as they stepped aside to discuss further what to do next, the portal opened again right in front of them, and their Master emerged, staring at them.

The dark replicas tried to persuade their master not to invade the human realm anymore, while the Mages promised not to harm them if they were willing to surrender and not bring further chaos. However, their kind intentions received a roar in reply.

“What do I need you for if you can’t fulfill my needs, you useless pieces of trash! Be gone!!”

It all happened in a second, and until now, Morganite still can’t pinpoint what had happened during that moment when she recalled her memories. The humanoid dark beast was no match for the dark replicas, considering how easily it was defeated by the Precaria Gem Squad; the dark replicas had the exact skills as the squad, but they all died under the humanoid’s attack. They were like thin papers to scissors in front of the humanoid, perishing in just a glimpse, leaving only FayOra stones, once their core on the ground.

Their cries before vanishing still echoed in her mind whenever she remembered this moment during her sleepless night.

Dark-Morganite, torn in half, managed to run away in a near-death condition, as she was the only one released from the capture while others tried to persuade their master with magical chains still on them. But evidently, losing half of her body would mean death in the human’s opinion, so all that remained was half of the FayOra stone on the floor.

The Precaria Gem Squad reacted fast, but it was too late. They killed the humanoid as soon as they sensed something was wrong, but all the dark replicas were gone by the time the battle was over. Though there was still one missing halved FayOra, no one thought the escaped one would survive, even though they unable to locate the missing half-stone.

The young Mages lost their spirit after that battle and trained harder than ever, becoming the best among the young generations. They would forever feel the loss deep in their hearts, regretting their weakness during the moment, wondering if things would take ended differently if they had been stronger and reacted faster. Morganite felt the most, as she was the only one who had managed to hug her dark replica right before the tragic incident. She often went to the archive just to take a look at the broken half-stone, mourning for the unfortunate being whom she only managed to meet a few times.

But now, after almost ten years, she saw her again. The dark replica, Dark-Morganite, stood in front of dark beasts, using skills that belonged to Morganite, creating more and more wound on those beasts. Tears rolling in her eyes as she leaped into the battlefield after a moment of surprised stunned to stand beside Dark-Morganite, blocking an attack.

She noticed Dark-Morganite’s wide-opened eyes when the long-missing dark replica saw her. She happily grabbed the chance to give her a short hug after a few more blocked attacks.

“Darling, it’s been a long time, welcome home!” She grinned happily, and wholeheartedly.
