[Your servant Vagabond Wolf has died!]
The emotionless mechanical voice of the 'system' seemingly echoes in my mind along with the last howl of the wolf.
The knight triumphantly standing on its lifeless corpse, looking at this direction.
The high priest gives him an approving nod.
"My..." Even though I see of all that, my world seems to turn black.
On the south side of the town.
Argon and Rector are hiding in the shadow of the buildings deep in an alley. A few knight hurriedly runs over while searching for something.
"Are you sure they are not just some Origin follower enthusiast?" One knight asks.
"Their level is way higher than the average; plus they coordinated with the explosions. They are obviously up to no good!" The other knight answers.
After the two knights return to the yard direction, Rector lets out a sigh of relieve.
"The plan was no good, eh?"
Earlier, they mixed themselves with the group of town folks demanding to see the Dragon of Origin. When the explosions happened, some of the knights blocking the way dazed for a moment, leaving an opportunity. Although most of the town folks were also dazed and couldn't move, some with stronger wills immediately dashed toward the cage though they was chased back out right after. Of course, Argon and Rector were among that.
"They only chased me further because I am a Lizard..." Argon complains.
"Didn't they say that they suspect us because of our level?" Rector gives a wry smile.
"Woof! Woof!" A faint bark coming from the direction of the yard.
"Huh? Wasn't that..." Argon peeks his head out of the alley to look. However, only the backs of the town folks carrying torches can be seen from there. "Wasn't our plan is to lure the knight away?"
"Who know. It failed anyway. Let's leave."
"But my brother..." Argon suddenly stops speaking as an otherworldly chill is sent down his spine. The lv31 Lizard was scared to the point his speech becomes like his brother, "What... wasss... that...?"
"..." Rector is in the worse state, he couldn't even say a word under the strange pressure.
A moment ago, on top of the roof of the building where Vagabond Wolf just climbed.
Neon has jumped off from Vagabond Wolf's back just as he reached the roof. However, the explosion type Fire magic that one of the knights cast was still enough to throw him a few meters away. Immediately after that, two knights, with the help of a Wind Magic, landed on the roof. The one wielding a red-tipped white spear jumped down into the yard; while the other ran toward Neon, waving his sword toward him.
However, at that moment... Time seems to be slowed. The Lv 60 knight unintentionally drops his weapon; and along with Neon, slowly turn their heads toward the cage.
"So, it is like this, huh?... It happened again, huh?... I still can't get rid of this kind of emotion, huh?... Living countless lives, witnessing countless deaths weren't enough, huh?"
"What.. are.. you..." The high priest worriedly asks.
"Shut up!"
The voice carries enough force to shut a Lv 60 Priest with all kinds of mental protection spells and artifacts on him.
"Do you know how many worlds I destroyed because of this emotion?"
"I..."
"Shut up!"
The entire yard becomes silent. Even the cracking of the torches becomes soundless.
"It only recently happened in the previous world, I was powerless so I couldn't destroy that world... It took me awhile to recover back then... This time, I am powerless too..."
The high priest suddenly seems to understand something as he slowly turns his head to look at the knight standing on the wolf's corpse. The knight still doesn't understand what is happening. He looks at the priest then looks back at the cage only to find himself being gazed upon... The gaze from something whose level is only one tenth of his freezes him in place.
That freezing feeling only lasts for a few second, however, Time seems to be slowed as it feels like it lasted for hours...
I take a deep breath, trying to break myself out of this. I comfort myself with all kind of thinking. Like, I only knew that wolf for a day or so... our relationship isn't that deep. We are not even family, so why do I care for a servant so much? It's just like that time...
Ah, it doesn't work, I have to think about it in a different way...
Oh right, magic exists in this world, maybe... no, not maybe, he definitely can be revived!
Light returns to my vision. Since I-don't-know-when, I've been looking at the wolf corpse. The knight on him seems like he is a statue, standing there and looking at me. I heard a sigh coming from below. Looking down, it's the priest standing next to my cage. What happened? Why did he look so scared?
"Can you revive my wolf.. please?" I remember the time when he told me to ask nicely.
"Ah..ah?" The priest's mind seems to be wandering somewhere. He suddenly shudders like snapping out of an illusion, looking at me with worried eyes, "I... I..."
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
It seems like he didn't hear me?
"Can you please.. revive my wolf?"
"I.. I'm sorry. I can't..." He seems to talk about something, but I completely ignore it. He isn't of any help, so I'll think of something else..
Maybe, I can do it myself?
Sitting in the cage, I lean toward the corpse a bit. My left hand grabs the metallic bar of the cage while I point at the knight with my right index claw.
"Hey, you over there, can you kill yourself, please?"
"What are you...?"
"Well, you killed my wolf, so his soul or spirit or consciousness whatsoever is probably haunting you. I need it right now, so kill yourself, please."
All of the eyes in the yard point at that man in shining armor. He jumps off the corpse then walk toward me.
"But..." Just as he steps one step forward...
"Do it..." The high priest interrupt him. "Although we don't take order from him, I deemed this is necessary. It's your duty to kill yourself, right now."
The knight glances around at his other comrades. They all try to avoid eye contact with him. The town folks are all silent; they don't dare to swarm in although the knights aren't even trying to stop them. He looks at his friend standing alone on the roof. That knight closes his eye. He looks at the corpse beside him like seeking help from the dead wolf.
Finally, he takes a deep breath to chant something...
"I am a loyal knight of the Origin. For the Origin, I can even give up my life. Dear all elemental particles inside me..." The knight seems to glow dimly in white. "...today you are free of my bound..." The dimly glow light forms some glowing balls and fly away from him. Two lines of tear roll down his cheeks. "...and all elemental particles around me..." One after another, more glowing light balls appear in mid air. The man looks paler and paler, maybe because of the light. "...hear me, one last time..." The entire area around him become a whole light source. The high priest suddenly enters defensive stage as he cast another light barrier around me. Is the knight going to self destruct right there? He is going to ruin the corpse!
"Hey.. no!" I call out, but it was too late as he chants the last part of the spell.
"...peacefully return me to the world! Redemption!" He glows brightly like he is going to explode. So bright I have to squint my eyes. However, the light immediately dies out without a sound, leaving countless white particles floating away, disappearing to the night, returning the yard to darkness.
After my eyes adjust to the brightness, I remember that the moons are still dimly lighting up the yard. Where that man stood, nothing was left, even his armor. My wolf's corpse is still intact.
"He changed the last part of the chant..." The priest says. It seems he tweaked the self-destruct spell a little...
No time to think about that now, it's my turn now. I take a deep breath and preparing to chant...
On that night, unknowing to Origo, the pressure from his 'emotion' created a ripple to the entire world. Many people were waken up from their sleep. The animals and monsters ran away from the source. Although it only lasted for a few seconds and most of them passed it as some bad dream, those superstitious people would call that an omen for the End. Even the Deities who stayed in a different Realm were suffocated for a moment.
Manifold. Deities' Realm. Neutral Domain. Meeting Hall.
"What.. was that?"
"A disturbance in Law of Life." Vitae stands up and says, her voice shows her concern.
The two Inheritors of Time look at the portal-like figure sitting between them like waiting for its confirmation.
"And a disturbance in Law of Time." The portal-like figure says.
"All of the Primal Gods are here, who could have done something like that?"
"No one has the power to disturb two Laws at the same time!"
"You forgot the one we are discussing about..." Vitae wants to says how the Origin Dragon is way above them, but the pride of half of the deities here won't let them accept it. "... I will go check on him again." She says and sits down, fading away.
Somewhere in the world, in a room of an inn.
A young man whose age is less than 20 springs up from his bed, immediately grabs his strange looking weapon and cautiously looks around the room.
"What.. was that?"
After a moment, he sighs and puts down his "weapon" on the table next to the bed.
His "weapon" has a thin cylinder handle with dents to fit a human hand. The handle is way smaller than a sword's, but long enough to be held in one hand. There is a V shaped coming out from the handle. This V-shape curves outward and holds an oval frame of net. This whole "weapon" is very short and is neither blunt or sharp. In fact, it doesn't seem to be a weapon at all.
He returns to his bed, this time he can't sleep anymore.
"Ah, I miss home..."
