I'm walking on all four under the night, through the forest, following the human. I thought that walking like a wild feral monster would ruin my image but the human doesn't seem to mind that. It's completely dark by the time we get to where my wolf assaulted him but fortunately he has a magical torch in the luggage scattered there. The light doesn't help much but I'm not afraid of the dark anyway.
Looking around the fighting scene, I don't see any trace of blood, so that's good. I feel awkward when the man sorts through his former companion's pack then stares at a tiny item. I'm too big to make out its shape but the light reflecting from it tells me that it's a piece of jewelry. Was she his lover? I don't dare to ask, nor I want to know. He might still be sad at that loss despite how the human in this world think of me. The more I think about it, the more awkward it feels so let's change my way of thinking ...
I didn't bother learning the man's name although he is nice to me. He is just trying to get to his "heaven" and I will forget his name when he does anyway... Am I really considering killing him? Becoming a dragon seems to give me a personality that my previous self would frown upon. Though I don't feel too weird because I had been monstrous monsters in many different dimensions, rampaging cities or pillaging village. Ah, dark time. Anyway, I'm helping him reunite with his (maybe) lover so that'll justify my action. Okay, that's settled. Anything else I have to worry about?
As the area around his lair had became a Sanctuary, that sleepy head would be safe so I left him be and took the human's offer to visit his place and get the 'map' there. Although flying would be faster but somehow I - a huge 12 meters tall dragon, couldn't take off while carrying a small human. That made me question my own weight.. and his weight. I blamed his weight but he explained that my 1 STR wouldn't let me carry anything. I need level up!
"Why is your level so low?" The man breaks the silence. Did he read my mind?
"You can see? I woke up back in a Temple at Lv1 after sleeping for 12000 years. My servant helped me raise some level by..." I stop there as I realize I almost made the conversation awkward. After all he lost someone to that wolf. I don't want to dig too deep into that subject.
Seeming to understand why I stopped, the man stays silent before continue.
"At lv5 you can see others' level and race. I'd be honored to help you gain some level..." Is he blushing? I should kill him soon so I can stop thinking about him...
"Stop! You will get your reward when we're done but could you not talk about it."
"Oh, I mean I could catch some monsters and let you smash them."
"Oh.." It's embarrassing to misunderstand his words! At least my face can't turn red.. can it?
Anyway, this idea is way better than waiting for my servant to send me the exp. It's hurting my pride a bit but... none would know, right? It's not even 'silencing the witness' if the witness asks for it.
"That's a good idea." I grin as I say that.
Along the way through the forest, the human - a barehanded fighter, effortlessly restrains some mid-level monsters so I can smash them with my front claw. However it's annoying as it takes my 4 Atk too long to kill a mid-level while the exp I receive for each hit is too little: 2~3 Exp for each hit and my paw is getting sore. The man has to find those with lower than 4 Def, but they are rare in this forest. STR and VIT increases Def, while these monsters rely on brute force so they always have some Def. This is going to take all night! I hope it will rewards me with a few points of STR at level up for all these effort.. and my sore paw too. The closer we get to the border of the forest, the weaker the monster are but my level was still unsuitable for this forest.
Name: UnknownAge: 12000Level: 5Race: DragonHP: 72/72MP: ∞STR: 3SPI: 1VIT: 4AGI: 1DEX: 4LUK: 3
Because I did nothing significant from Lv3 to Lv4, it didn't give me any stat. From Lv4 to Lv5, I got 2 DEX for casting a complicated magic and 2 STR for smashing monsters. By my calculation, it will take a while until I hit the stat limit. If I try to keep training STR without leveling up, I will hit the limit at 19 STR. Yep, I will follow the Brute-Force Monster route.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
"What's wrong? You've been staring at your Status for awhile." The man glances at me every now and then.
"I'm just calculating the stat limit." I honestly answer without a second thought. There is nothing to hide about that right?
"You.. you know how the stat limit works?" He suddenly stops his step and I almost stepped on him, though I doubt I could hurt him with 6 Atk. Even if I could, he would probably be happy about that.
Ah, I guess this world's Tutorial needs an update. It's not my job though; explaining would be too troublesome. I ignore the question and urge the [Lv22 Earth] to continue walking...
Huh? [Lv22 Earth]? I thought I would see the race...
"Did you see my race and Lv? It's nothing amazing, actually. The holy knight's level can reach 60 if they train hard enough." The human casually says as he notices my line of sight pointing above his head.
At this point I have nothing to be surprised about myself anymore. Enough with the Uniqueness! I just wanted to be a normal dragon!
"How does this.. Level seeing vision work?" I ask. A little bit more common sense wouldn't hurt. "I mean can someone hide their level? I don't want to be seen as an easy target at all."
"The Lv can never be deceived but the entire status won't show to others if you are hidden from their sight. However if your stealth skills is worse than the seer's ability, they could still detect you. On the other hand, the race is depend on how you see the target. Some Shape-Shifter or Disguiser can change how their Race appears to others... I even heard story about three goblins stacked together inside a set of clothes and people see their race as Human."
Ah I regret asking. Those information were pretty useless for me. I doubt I can hide this huge body of mine from sight. Disguising is out of question.
"Do you see my Element?" The human suddenly asks. How did he know? I was startled for a Planck second but immediately calm down. Let's act normally.
"Why do you ask something like that?"
"Oh, I thought you could. There is a Legend about an Ancient Artifact... a long time ago, a hero sacrifice himself to save the world. His action made you shred tear in mourning for him. Your tear condensed into a gem and through that, one can see the other's Element to the details. However after many years it was lost... Since it was your tear, I thought..."
"Thanks. That would explain it." I don't get how I shredded tear for someone I didn't know while sleeping though.
"Does that mean?" The man stops and turns to look at me.
"Yes I can see it. Lv22 Earth. Now can we stop talking about me and continue walking?"
As we walk, the trees around me are getting shorter, the forest become thinner. While walking, the man tells me a few things about this world's Geography. This forest is the Forest of Origin (aka the First Forest in the world), getting out of the forest also means leaving the Neutral Region of Origin. Where we are heading to is a Town just north of the forest.
"I don't think a huge dragon like me is welcomed in a Town. And I'm not going to flaunt my status and let people try to worship me or touch me or... urghh, you know the drill."
"Your scales blend perfectly with this cloudy sky so none would be able to see you. Just wait outside the outer wall and I will bring you the world map along with the traveler guide."
Traveler Guide, huh? That reminds me that I can't read this world's letters. I hope the map is easy to understand. About learning how to read, I'd need to find someone who is less fanatic.
As I lay my body next to the outer wall in the dark without the human's magic torch, I hear some noise coming from inside the town. The wall is just 3 meters in height which mean I just need to lean up and peek my head over the wall to see what inside. A group of floating light balls shine the way for a group of knight in shining armor with gleaming gold decoration. The strange sounds are the ringing of the glowing chain on their hands. They are heading toward the town gate which is only a few meters away from me. Did that barehanded fighter sold me out? I need to fly away!
