Chapter 34: First Day Kyle PoV

As soon as they entered Neuron grabbed Kyle and dragged him into a narrow alley

“So Kyle, shall we do quests?”

“I think not, we have to hurry to find out what this quest is about”

“But how are we going to do it?”

“We will divide ourselves, and each one will do what he wants, you can go stealing, and questioning people that live in the dark, thieves and the like but I’d recommend you to remove your title and to never use the eyes of the judge”

“Great, I will be the devil of the night!”

“Just stick to Smiling Chinese, but try not to gather attention too much.”

“Killjoy, so you plan to befriend many people and do odd jobs?”

“Not really, I thought about joining the army and showing what I’m worth, maybe I will even be installed as a higher rank, we do have many contribution points, and then I can begin questioning people”

“Good, I get why I should remove the title, but how can I avoid Killing Bandits I come across?”

“Easy enough, your Oath has a loophole, actually two, remember when I said to deliver justice to them, It means, that we don`t have to kill them, we just have to tell the guards of them, so that they will get arrested. The second loophole is, that we have unlimited time to do so.”

“Nice thought of! So yeah, later” Neuron said while he waved goodbye and ventured deeper into the alley, till he disappeared around a corner.

Now alone Kyle exited the alley and approached the first person he came across

“Hey you, do you know where the barracks are, I have to make a report to the captain”

“Just follow this street, till you arrive at the harbor, there you turn right, from there on you can`t miss them””

“Thank you for the information” Kyle said while going in the pointed direction

+”Kyle, we or well I got problems”+

*What could have happened in this short amount of time?* then he asked

+”What am I hearing in the background?”

+”Nothing, just some hoodlums”+

+”We aren`t even inside this city for more than 10 Minutes and you already caused trouble! What did you do?”+

+”Nothing really, I entered an alleyway then there they stood asking for a trespassing fee, but I refused to pay, then they attacked me, should I have paid?”+

+”Well actually yeah, you shouldn`t arouse attention so early!”+

+”They are getting on my nerves, shall I get rid of them?”+

+”No, just defeat them, but don`t kill them, and don`t activate….”+ but then Kyle heard a shout “Ah it is a Demon!”

+”Did you say something?”+

~Sigh~ *Neuron* Kyle thought, placing his hand on his forehead, while shaking his head

+”No Never mind”+

+”Good, so over and out”+

*I hope he won`t get caught by some authorities, anyway it’s his problem now, I have to do my own things*

And shaking his head he went down the main street while looking around. This city was different from Gaber in any aspect, the houses where taller, many even had three stories, and on street level an uncountable amount of different shops were accessible

This street was actually the only connection big enough to fit two carriages near each other from the harbor to outside the city which led to an abundance of traffic, and it seemed like there were no traffic rules at all, only one, drive at the right side of the road, but other than that nothing, which led to loud shouts and swears from the cabmen’s when the one before them suddenly stopped to unload some wares and bring them inside the shops, and of course for many other reasons as well.

And Kyle wandered along this street looking at everything with big eyes, Neuron and his predicament was long forgotten when he arrived at a big fountain where water sprayed high into the air with a statue in the middle of it. The statue was much bigger than a normal human. Its motive was a Man with beard, who had one hand held high into the air as if he was ready to strike his foes with something that looked like some Lighting bold, in the other hand which he held straight before him was a scale, and adjacent to his right foot stood an Eagle

*This must be Zeus*

Kyle decided to stop and sit in front of a restaurant to see what dishes where served, but he got disappointed because there was no dish served he didn`t taste already, and so he decided to continue his way to the port.

When he arrived at the port Kyle turned right like the NPC has instructed him to do, while he examined the ships. Mostly they where rowboats combined with sails, well big rowboats which were property of merchants

The noise here couldn`t be even compared with the main street before, everywhere NPC`s gave Orders, advertised wares, or announced departure times, while shouting to drown out the others. But what produced the most sound was the market located at the left part of the harbor which made Kyle quite curious, and thus he decided to make a small detour.

While wandering through the stands he looked upon wares and wares, most of them were exotic, he even found new food he really wanted to try cooking, and so he came to discuss with some merchants how this or that is cooked best, and quite some time elapsed when he finally remembered what he had to do 2 hours went already past.

*Shit, I better not let Neuron find out, I stayed idle*

So now he hurried towards the barracks without looking around, and now he`s standing before a 3m high wall with only one entrance, where two guards stood, well Guard. As soon as he approached them they halted him and asked what he wants here.

“My name is Kyle, I have a report to make to your captain, and if possible I would like to apply as a new Recruit”

Guard:”Good” one of them said, while they removed their spears which blocked the way:”You have to enter the Barrack to the right and there you make the request, and maybe you will get to speak with the captain”

“Thank you”

Now inside said building he chose a chair and waited, soon a receptionist came and pointed him to follow, now in her office she asked:”So, what can I do for you?”

“Well, I want to speak with your captain, and possibly join the Guards or army”

“Well, could you tell me why you want to speak to the captain?”

“I don`t know if the information is classified or not but it concerns the bandits Hideout located inside the Willamar mountain range”

At this she made big eyes and rushed out of the room with a “Please wait here!”

After five minutes she came back and said while huffing:”Please follow me, the captain is awaiting you”

Here it is, please enter, she said, while opening the door and motioning him to enter. While he entered he saw a somewhat plain room, it looked exactly like he imagined the office of a medieval guard captain to look like. The room was spartanic, only the necessities where in there, namely some shelves with medals of Honor, a big oaken desk behind which the captain sat, a man with a scar that went from his right forehead to his right cheek, giving him a somewhat mean look, he had eyes that where blue like the heaven giving of a cold and unapproachable aura, his black hair was cut short military stile.

And behind him on the wall hung a round shield with some crest on it, and a really broad short sword. While Kyle looked around the Captain rose up and went around the table while he produced a clank sound with every second step, after looking down, Kyle saw that he wore a prosthetic left leg

“Hello, my name is Deltaio, and yours?” he said while he extended his right hand

“Kyle” he answered while proceeding with the handshake *Damn he is clutching really hard, if this is a test I am not going to lose!* he thought while he exerted some more strength, after feeling that Deltaio gave a look of approval and began to exert more force, as did Kyle.

A minute later a bright smile appeared on his face and he said in a loud tone ”You have good eyes, and a very fierce grip” he said, while rubbing his hand

“I must say, you too” Kyle said while also rubbing his hand *Few, finally it’s over, a little bit longer and I would have to give up*

“So I heard you have a report to make about the bandits inside Kilakios”

“Yeah, actually the matter has been taken care of”

“What, but it where estimated to be three hundred, so tell me the truth!”

“It is the truth”

“I already sent scouts there, they told me their fortress is impenetrable, surrounded by huge cliffs, with only one entranceway! So don`t say something you can`t prove!” he shouted becoming more furious with each word while also raising his tone of voice, till finally two guards rushed In there bearing their weapons and surrounding Kyle.

“Captain, what happened?”

“Throw this runt in a cellar, he told an outrageous lie”

“No, wait, I can prove it! Ähm, a question, how many contribution points would someone get after defeating those Bandits?” he asked after he saw Deltaio making a sign of approval

“About 500, come to the point!”

“I have exactly 500 Contribution points!”

“What! Now I am curious, tell me your story”

“Ähm, hrm, well me and some friends of mine have gotten a quest from some villagers to kill those bandits, so we went to scout the area. Well to make the story short, one of us was able to infiltrate their hideout and kill the leader, then he showed them his dead body and told them, that a assassin sent by order of the king has killed him, and soon an army will invade their hideout”

“And they believed that, useless scum, if they just had a slight bit of brain they would have understood, that both things have to be done nearly simultaneously, and I shall believe that?!” he shouted at the end

“Well he also set their place on fire, so they couldn`t think rationally and rushed out of their hideout, and we awaited them inside the small entranceway and killed most of them”

“Really, you don`t mind, if I send a scout to prove it?”

“no I don`t mind, just so that you know, the villagers decided to build themselves a new town inside, this town is ruled by three men named Warnton Brairan and Tonan” Which wasn`t a lie, because Neuron and Kyle gave them the right to be the towns lords temporarily, for the times they were away.

“Good, so tell me where are those friends now?”

“We said goodbye to each other, they wanted to venture further, and I wanted to join an army, and by the way deliver the news too, maybe we will see each other again someday”

“hmm, I still don`t believe you fully, would you mind to show me how good you are at fighting? So that I can judge your skill and rank if I decide to let you join”

“Please do, I don`t mind”

*Whew, finally I have him where I want him, I’m just wondering who I`m going to fight against.*

“But before that could you show me what you can do, so that I can choose a good opponent?”

“hmm, ah yeah, but I would like to keep my skills hidden is that okay?”

“It is”

“Show Status window only to Deltaio”

“hmm I see, you are quite well developed for your level, I guess you trained quite hard” he said, looking at Kyle’s stats while rubbing his chin:”good, I found who you can duel, but Defender, never heard of that class” he mumbled while going outside

Now Kyle was standing behind Deltaio on an open ground, where many recruits trained under supervision of a trainer.

“Michael come here!” he shouted, then a young tall man with a blond ponytail and a three day beard rose up and exited the crowd surrounding him

*Guess he has won a sparring match, and everyone is congratulating him*

“Yes Sir” he shouted while saluting before Deltaio

“This one behind me is Kyle; I want to judge his fighting prowess, so you two perform a sparring match”

“Yes Sir!”

“So Kyle, the round will go over five minutes, just try to stay alive” after hearing that the Blond guy made a smirk

*He is full of himself, shall I teach him a lesson*

“Alright, so where shall we fight?”

“Right here inside this field” Deltaio told while every trainee stopped training and circled a fighting ring, that was 3 meters in diameter. While they positioned themselves everyone threw glances towards Kyle with pity in their eyes

*Hey, what does that mean is that beanpole really that good?*

Michael who already positioned himself shouted:”hey come here, or are you too afraid you chicken?”

After hearing that Kyle equipped his shield and war hammer then Deltaio approached him and whispered inside his ear “Don`t defeat him too flashily, he is the related to the King, if he hates you, I can´t protect you anymore” Kyle nodded and placed himself before Michael.

“Now that I see you close up, your armor is really worn down, and what’s with that shield, this junk wouldn`t even be able to block a child’s swing with a wooden sword, what can you possibly do with such poor equipment?” Michael taunted

*I. Have. To. Endure.*

“Hah, you afraid well I don`t condemn you, who in their right mind would fight with such junk, what kind of unskilled Blacksmith made that anyway?”

*Ok, that does it, I’m going to defeat him flashily, I don´t care anymore*

“So again, the duration of the match is 5min, to win you have to either push your opponent out of the ring, or bring him down to 50% Health.

“Good, do you both approve of the rules?”

“Yes”

“Then Match start!”

After hearing that Kyle was prepared for an onslaught but Michael didn`t move instead he shouted.”What too scared to begin, maybe you should go back drinking your mother’s milk?”

After hearing that every onlooker burst out in laughter

“Ähm, I am just wondering, how do people distinguish you from your mother with that beard you’re wearing?” Kyle replied with a poker face

After hearing that everyone fell silent and Michael screamed:”I will kill you!” while shouting he placed himself like runner before a startup and dashed, he was so fast, that he disappeared from Kyle’s vision, but because Kyle had experienced many battles he turned around while holding his shield close to his body, and indeed Michael stood there swinging his sword that glowed in a red light only to be intercepted by a purple glowing shield, that contrary to his expectation endured the impact, and too boot stunned him because all the force of his mightiest swing vibrated trough his body.

But Kyle didn`t finish him off, he just stepped three steps back, while waiting for the stun effect to wear off.

After it wore off the expression Michael showed wasn`t human anymore, but Kyle only poured oil into the fire adding:”Hey, you are weak, I guess everyone just lets you win because they are afraid of you and your status!”

After he heard that Michael looked around and all onlookers shook their heads wildly.

“Heh, you don`t have any strength at all!”

“Shut up! I`m going to slaughter you, my uncle is the brother of the King!”

“Yeah, and?” Kyle answered, while picking his nose *Wow, this is fun behaving like Neuron sure helps you out in such situations*

“Rah, everyone gang up on him!”

After hearing this Kyle looked to the captain who only shook his head and turned around, while most trainees armed themselves

* But it also brings you in grave situations* Kyle thought while looking at the nearly thirty people that had surrounded him then he shouted:”Hey Deltaio, what happens if someone gets pushed out of the ring?”

“He can`t go inside again” he shouted while turning around smiling

“hehe, just come at me all together” Kyle taunted while pointing the trainees to attack him

All of them turned their head towards Michael who shouted:”Just kill him, I don´t care”

But they still looked quite worried, because what Kyle said earlier about them letting him win wasn`t true at all, Michael was gifted In combat, even seniors couldn`t defeat him, and so all hesitated till:”Whoever kills him will get a monetary reward!” this lifted the ban and all charged at Kyle together.

Kyle just shrugged his shoulders and decided to perform the same skill combination that let many bandits fly into the air, this time it also bored fruits, because half of the assailants were flung outside of the ring. Those who did, got up staggeringly and tried to enter the fighting ground once again, but they couldn’t, an invisible barrier hindered them.

Kyle noticed nothing of the sort, he just turned around at those who came at him and performed a shield bash, flinging one more out of the ring, because the other managed to evade.

At this moment the trainees that were still in the ring got a grasp of Kyle s power, and so they decided to make dashes with pinpoint attacks, and then retreating once again, but Kyle managed to block every assault, and some were even disarmed by his swings.

*Finally I can fight at my own, no Neuron and his quirks to keep an eye on, yeah, this is how I like to fight!*

After 5 minutes the ring was empty again, only Michael, Kyle and some weapons where inside, while those that got thrown out, looked at him with anticipation and admiration, well most of them, some threw glances that could kill.

*uh, guess I made many enemies today, anyway I will win!*

Now Michael and Kyle are circling around each other looking for a weak spot. Michael who now knew that his opponent doesn`t possess any skill to cover a distance just this weird charge, that only used momentum and the shield, which was easy to dodge at the right distance, and so he just stayed out of range performing some dashes that Kyle couldn`t block, but those just scraped off of his armor.

*This will never end, time to do something crazy* Kyle thought, while hiding behind his shield and unequipping his armor and War hammer. Those who stood behind him began to mumble something, but Michael waited because he was anticipating another attack, then Kyle stood up and threw his shield away from him, while cracking his neck.

“Whew, much lighter”

“So you have finally decided to dispose of that trash?” but Kyle only gave him a mild smile and disappeared. Well he didn`t literally disappear, he just coated his feet with mana, so that they can endure more and used all his Strength and Dexterity to move.

“What in Zeus`s name happened!” Michael shouted and then he jerked around, because someone tipped on his shoulder:”Hey, looks like I’m faster than you now”

“Dream on” Michael hissed while he performed a round slash with his word, but Kyle wasn`t there anymore, he reappeared at the other end of the ring while sliding on the ground *damn, went too far* right after he halted Michael appeared before him performing that slash from before again, Kyle didn`t manage to duck completely and got cut

* Your left arm has been cut -80 Hp

*Shit, I am not fast enough, guess it is time for a suicidal attack since I only have to throw him out of the ring to win, well not really suicidal, since I have probably much more health than him*

After thinking that he halted his movement at the right moment so that he got impaled by Michaels sword

* You have been impaled -30% Hp

* Endurance +1

* Fighting spirit +1

*ugh, that hurts more than I anticipated*

But Kyle had Michael where he wanted him so he clutched his right hand around Michaels and the sword grip. Then he coated his fist with mana and squashed the hand while still holding onto it and the sword.

Then Michael smacked his left fist as hard as he could into Kyle’s face, but he just shrugged it off while laughing, after the second punch thrown out of desperation kyle asked:”Wanna see a real left straight?”

After saying this he lifted Michael up into the air and moved his left fist back slowly while Michael tried to support his body weight with his left hand that to prevent the sword grip pinching into his abdomen all the while kicking around violently, but Kyle only smiled *Damn this hurts*, then his whole left arm began glowing in a purple light and faster than the eye could see he smacked his fist into Michaels face distorting it out of proportion. When his punch connected he loosened the grip of his right hand, and Michael was propelled out of the fighting ring while still holding the sword

After the fight was over everyone even the Instructors stood there silently, while Kyle exited the ring

* You have exited the ring

All injuries you sustained while fighting inside are healed instantly

*Sweet*

+”Hey Kyle, nice fight”+

+”Neuron, god damnit don´t startle me like that, and what do you mean good fight?”+

+”I just wanted to look where the guards are stationed, anyway nice fight, so see ya”+

*Damn I`m going to pay you back*

Now Deltaio approached him while clapping:”This was a really good fight, now you are free till tomorrow, let me see where I can position you”

“Roger, so see you later” he said waving goodbye to everyone while exiting”

*So now I am gonna immerse myself in that marked* Kyle thought while whistling, then sooner than he expected the sun set and the stands were being prepared for the night, some vendors even prepared themselves a bed near their wares to look over them, and those that where richer could rent a storage area in Warehouses of the harbor, and so they moved all their belongings there.

When Kyle exited the market to search for an inn where he could stay the night a guard approached him and asked:”Are you Kyle?”

“Yeah, I am, what can I do for you?”

“I have a quest to deliver to you”

“By who’s order?”

“Deltaio” the guard answered, but something in his eyes was strange, so Kyle decided to play it save

“What happens if I refuse?”

“Then you won`t be able to join the Guards anymore”

“Would you show the quest to me?”

“Alright”

*Wow, that sounds really fishy, I better ask Neuron for help*

+”hey Neuron, you free right now?”+

+”Yes, do you need something?”+

+”Well, a guard just offered me a quest, and it seems really fishy, I guess Michael has already planned his revenge”+

+”Who’s Michael?”+

+”The blond guy I fought with”+

+”Ah, the bishie, so tell me what shall I do?”+

+”I would like you to go where I am and then to follow the guard who gave me the quest”+

+”On it, but where are you?”+

*Shit, how can I show Neuron where I am, in old games it worked just fine,….*

+”Yah know what, I’ll try something, show my location to the other party member!”+

+”Boah, that’s…. nice”+

+”What?”+

+”Suddenly a arrow appeared in my vision which probably points towards you”+

*Yes, it worked!*

+”So now hurry, I don`t know how long I can keep the guard busy”+ Kyle said, because the guard started looking annoyed.

+”Roger”+

“So, have you decided to take it?”

“Could you tell me, where this Rakosh is located?”

“Ah, of course, actually it isn`t so far away from here, just 20minutes on horseback towards southeast”

“And, what happened there, which I should investigate?”

“ähm, well I haven`t been told it, Deltaio just told me to give the quest to you” he said, while sweating buckets.

*you are an even worse liar than Neuron*

“So the reward, is that only the acceptance, or also a monetary one?”

*Damnit Neuron where are you, I can`t hold on much longer*

“For that you have to talk with Deltaio, as I said, I don`t know anything”

+”I am ~pant~ here ~pant”+

*Finally!*

“Good, I accept the quest”

* You have accepted the Quest

“Thank you, I wish you good luck” the guard said while turning around and leaving the place

*Wow, he sure looked relieved, wonder what happened, hey what was that sound?*

Then something touched Kyle from behind, and with animal like reflexes he turned around, while punching whatever touched him.

“Hey hey, it’s me” Neuron said, while he avoided the punch:”Anyway, I am going to follow that guard, could you invite me into that quest you got?”

+“Sure, but it’s probably a fake”+ Kyle whispered because Neuron was already back on a roof and jumping into the direction he saw the guard going.

+“Doesn`t matter”+

*If he says so* “Invite Neuron to the Quest: Investigate”

And not much time later

* Neuron has accepted the invitation

*Hmm, what shall I do while Neuron is following him? ~Yaaaawn~ guess I’ll search myself a place to sleep*

Now while Kyle was eating something in the restaurant within the inn

* The Quest has been updated

Quest: Come back alive

Must have followed the quest giver without being spotted

*Wow, now to send Neuron a whisper, oh wait, better swallow the meat first, I don’t want Neuron to find out, that I am eating something while he works. *

+”hey Neuron, you succeeded!”+

+”Why so surprised, anyway I have something to do”+

*Hope he doesn`t kill the poor guy he was clearly blackmailed, oh well, Neuron won’t risk to get a murderer mark, and when the eyes which he is surely going to use don´t point him out as guilty,…..*

And while thinking like that he paid for the Dinner and headed to the inn in which he already paid for a room. And when he stretched himself on the bed another whisper from Neuron came

+”hey Kyle, let’s do this tomorrow”+

+”Good, let’s meet at the south gate one hour after the sun rose up, you don´t have anything to do in RL?”+ asked Kyle

+“No, not at the moment”+

+”Me neither, so, good night”+ said Kyle while he made himself comfortable

+”good night”+
