Chapter 17

After the long trip to Wirwood, we finally made it... Almost. We could see the town from a far, hoping that our horses would move faster but no. We would have been okay with the fact that the horses were a little slow but we had run out of water and we were in the middle of nowhere with no water, that was bad since the sun was blazing and all we had were canned food. Sheriff Joy had already thought of drinking blood from his horse but I didn't approve with that and most of the times I managed to stop him from trying, I still wasn't able to stop him all the time so his horse had a few holes poked onto it, the horse seemed okay so I wasn't so worried.

We were getting closer and closer to the city and even more thirsty, it was really getting into us, Sheriff Joy had said that his vision was getting blurry and so was mine. We were looking everywhere where there could have been water but found nothing, other than the horses. The horses were getting slower and slower but we were also getting closer and closer to the town. I saw that Sheriff Joy was slowly leaning to his left and losing his grip. I needed to say something but I was too tired.

"Joy!.. Don't give up now! We are almost there!"

I tried to yell but it came out as pathetic wheezing, he still managed to hear it and tried to take a better grip, he managed to slowly pull himself as well.

"Yeah... Almost there.."

Sheriff Joy said, I think he was trying to say it louder but he wasn't able to. Now he was back up and gasping for air, then he turned to look at me and gave me a thumbs up.

"Yeah, Can't give up now since were this close I guess."

Sheriff Joy said and pointed at the town. I didn't realize but we were right In front of the town. We had finally arrived at the town, we could finally get something to drink. I saw a bar right In front of us and headed to it. We hitched our horses at the post right in front of the bar and then headed in. I didn't even get to the counter and signaled the bartender to get me a big beer. Then I sat down and saw Sheriff Joy walk in, he had hid the sheriff badge just in case. He sat down next to me and also ordered a big beer, I was surprised about it.

"Oh, so you do drink?"

I asked Sheriff Joy and laughed, he smiled.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"Of course! You would have to be crazy not to drink!"

Sheriff Joy said and laughed. We were both laughing even though both of us were still dehydrated, I assumed the reason was that we knew we would be okay and that we got beer. Our drinks finally arrived and both of us got to chugging them, it seemed easy for us but the other people at the bar were confused about us.

"Bartender! Get us another round!"

I yelled across the room, Sheriff Joy was holding his laughter, I wasn't quite sure why. The other people in the bar were staring at us, probably because we were loud. The second round of drinks had arrived, we were getting ready to chug the drinks but a man had approached our table, he was standing there looking at us.

"You think you two own this place? Shush, there are others here."

The man said and stood there, Sheriff Joy was still holding his beer but I was chugging mine. After I finished the drink I slammed the glass onto the table and got up.

"Hey man, you don't need to be like thiss... Let's all just have fun, huh?"

I asked the man, he was still standing still staring at me, I could tell from his eyes that he was tired as well, its simple to tell peoples emotions through their eyes. The man took a look at the scar on my cheek, now his eyes told me that he was afraid, afraid of something far more than me. The man pushed me a little away from him and sat down next to our table.

"Alright alright... Drinks on me, pals!"

The man yelled and laughed, then he got up.

"Hey bartender! Give these guys a round of the best beer!"

The man yelled and began walking around the bar laughing. Sheriff Joy was trying to chug his drink but got only half way this time. He put his glass down and turned to me.

"The hell did you do to him? He wasn't like that a few seconds ago!"

Sheriff Joy asked me and laughed. I was confused about that question.

"Huh? I didn't do anything, he just looked at me and went crazy."

I said and looked at the man, he was sitting with some randoms and talking to them, we could hear what he was talking about because he talked really loudly, it was nothing serious, just about beer. We tried our best to not cause any trouble around the new town so after Sheriff Joy had finished his drink we got out of the bar. We even came to the conclusion that this town was taken care of way better than the town we came from, the streets and the houses looked clean from the outside, the streets weren't as muddy as the other towns and the people seemed real nice.

After leaving we began looking for a place to spend the night in. Of course it was still quite early so we weren't going to sleep yet, just booking them early so we would have some place. We had finally found an inn that had free rooms for the both of us so we booked them and went to check them out. The room was clean and everything was in place, the bed looked comfy and clean. We left our backpacks and everything heavy so we could move more freely around the town, then we left the inn and stood in front of it for a few seconds before starting to wonder around the town.
