Dark

When he was about to grab her to shake her a little he felt something wrong. Although she was silent last time as well it felt weird this time. She was standing too defenseless. Though he couldn’t see her but there still is a difference between the aura of someone with killing intent and someone with no typical aura at all. He would have thought no one was standing in front of him if it wasn’t for his holding her hand.

His heart dropped for a while. Then he gathered himself together and he tried to look for her pulse or breathing. Pulse could be felt more easily but his own heart was beating too badly that it was hard to differentiate between the beating he felt in his nerves from her pulse. He tried to look for her breath. He found her face in a single go. He felt her face, it was cold but not dead cold. He knew he found her lips when he felt something soft under his fingers. He moved his hand a little up and sighed a sigh of relief when he felt her breathing.

Now that he was sure she was alive he wanted to head slam himself, his power was still there it was fluctuating but it was still there. How could he think she was dead? He suddenly felt a ring in his head. He hurriedly felt her breath again. It was too unstable and shallow. It felt a lot of air being sucked in and released but after a sec there was no moment at all and then tiny breaths and again a deep breath.

“Ashleen!” he spoke loudly hoping to get her to speak but he was greeted with silence. Instead, she collapsed in front of him. Her hand slipped from his hand and she sat down.

He hurriedly tried to find her and suddenly a cold hand held his arm it was trembling badly and he heard a very very silent, almost inaudible voice.

He moved his ear closer to where he thought her face might be. The hand holding his arm was still trembling badly while her other hand held his shirt near his waist this trembling as well.

“I am here,” he said wanting her to repeat her words. He heard her forcefully swallowing saliva before speaking again.

“Da- dark… it- t’s-dark…i- i- saw…orcs… orcs” Her hands tightened the grip even more and Anik felt these hands could pierce through his skin.

He was taken aback when he heard her. It didn’t cross his mind that she could have had a fear of darkness earlier. But her trembling hands and voice made it clear. But what him question himself was the last word she said, orcs. She must have had a premonition.

“I am here, I am here don’t worry” he freed his arm from her grip and moved her arm in front of her, and took her in his embrace. The trembling soothed a little at his action. He sort of understood what could be done to soothe her fear a little so he lifted himself a little from the floor and stood on his knees and covered her in embrace as much as possible.

Anik had broad shoulders not as broad as some celebs but still, it could be considered a lot more than average but Ashleen as well didn’t seem to match the current standards as she was not stick thin and held some volume where she was.

He still tried to make her feel as safe as possible. Soon her trembling almost stopped and she stretched out her arms and hugged Anik tightly. He felt some wetness on his shirt and wanted to ask if she was crying but seeing that she tried hard to conceal it he stayed silent as well.

After a few minutes, Anik finally heard her voice

“I am feeling better, thanks Anik” The voice was hoarse but it was not trembling anymore.

“I am sorry but I might need to use that power of mine.”

Even before he could react a screen popped up in front of them. Your area and citizens are in danger. Fulfill your obligations as the representative heads and save your citizens from the orc’s attack.

Anik was sure that she had a premonition and he wanted to exchange memories again but even before he could ask she was no longer there. The darkness started scattering away and Anik found himself a little away from the window, facing it. He saw a small human silhouette flying in the distance. His heart tightened as he felt a similar aura from that silhouette.

“Let’s go,” he said looking at the kid and Akansha.

Ashleen on the other hand knew how stupid she was being at the moment but she knew she had no other options. She had many premonitions in a single go this time each one felt real and she tried doing different things each time. She’s not sure whether this is real or not but she still needs to do her best. The premonitions she had could be counted on her fingertips. In each one, she saw a death or two. One thing that was the same in each one was that she died in each one in the end. In some she was the first one to die in others she died after seeing others die on her, but she not for once was able to listen to the ding of the system telling her she won. She somewhat understood what the creature meant by telling her that it did research on her, her worst fears, dark and orcs, both greeted her one after another on a single day. Her heart tightens just thinking about what can happen in the future.

Ashleen understood how her powers worked in the last few days after using it for the first time. For premonition, the first time she had it was when she entered the first scenario. She was excited with a trace of fear and she had a single premonition but this time when her surroundings suddenly turned pitch black and dark she was so scared that she felt her lungs hurting when she tried to breathe and she had at least 10 premonitions. Usually back in the previous world when she was scared of something she has no control over, she remained fearful for a while but then her fear turned into frustration and this frustration overpowered her fear. But this time even before this frustration could kick in she entered premonition after it ended and she found herself back in the darkness, the trauma from the premonition and her fear of the dark both acted up together but somewhere deep inside she let out a sigh of relief when she realized it was just a premonition.

This process continued over and over for some times and her heart became so heavy from fear of her companion's death, anger for the orcs, sadness, and helplessness that she wanted to tear apart everything.

And about her imagination, she was not sure but for most of the part, it feels like imagination is just a switch on and her real power should have something to do with the frustration accumulated inside her throughout the 18 years she spent in the world. She concluded it from the fact that she felt relieved and happy whenever she saw someone suffering. Her real power should just be an attribute of hers that had something to do with this accumulation and that should be the reason why the healer lady said that she had pure and evil residing in her together.

For now, she has two problems that she is facing. First, she is afraid that her imagination and premonition might evolve into one and it can possibly lead to one of the two consequences; first, she might lose herself completely to her frustration and premonition already brings despair to give a refuel to this accumulation; second, she might somehow learn to control herself and end up becoming way stronger.

The second problem she is facing is her inability to differentiate between real and premonition and her inability to use her premonition freely. She is confused but this time she found herself in Anik’s embrace which was different from previous ones where she got out of her fear on her own strength so she felt that this might be real.

She moved in a certain direction that she was well familiar with after going there numerous times. She looked at the scene and took a deep breath in, trying to shake her fear away while moving downwards.

There were numerous orcs in the supposed kingdom of hers. After clearing the first scenario, a castle appeared in front of them, and with time, a lot of new people, most probably NPCs, and numerous houses, big and small along with gardens started appearing there.

So right now she was supposed to save these people from dying in the hands of these monsters. There were some baby orcs and many adult ones. She remembered her premonition where she decided to stay behind and just transfer mana like her the way she did in her first scenario. She stood on the top of a high building and used all her strength to support those fighting on the frontlines.

She had unlimited mana to transfer but her physical body was very weak compared to her power. After a few hours, her head started to feel like it might explode and her ears started buzzing so loud that she failed to hear all the warning shouts from people around her. When she weakly turned to look back there was a huge orc, almost as tall as the building looking at her. Almost at the same time when she turned her head, she felt something on her lips, she touched it and saw blood on her hands. It lifted its hand to attack her, but before it even touched her, she lost consciousness and started falling from the building. She naturally don’t know whether she died from an orc’s attack or by falling but she surely died because the next moment she opened her eyes, she was in the dark room.
