Evan POV:
“Ow.” Said Tifa in pain as she massaged her triangular half-elven ears, “I never thought you could use your magic like that. It hurts my ears, but there’s nothing more effective.”
I raised my hand to stop her, we only have about a minute to think of a plan and I didn’t want to waste any time. “Compliments later, strategies now. We're up against 10,000 goblins. How many soldiers do we have?”
Daisy avoided my gaze as she gave me the number of soldiers at our disposal, “… Five hundred”. Elizabeth chimed in, saying that we could add about 300 more if we used their troops. I let out an exasperated sigh and rubbed my forehead.
800 soldiers against 10,000 Goblins. Sure, the soldiers have a variety of troops like archers, mages and warriors. But the Goblins have that too.
We need a flippen miracle to survive.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts, Alright Evan, think! What's the most OP way you can get rid of the whole invasion and save Everyone?
While I was thinking of a plan, Trish came back and started talking, “Your Highness, it's best if you retreat with the citizens. It's not safe for you here.”
Daisy put up a bravado, “I don't cower in the face of an enemy. I'll protect this kingdom even if it's the last thing I do.”
Nice words from a trembling little brat.
Trish did not look like he approved of her self-sacrificial sentient but he decided to nod in the end and stay put.
"Trish," I said urgently. "I need to know everything we have at our disposal. Soldiers, supplies, equipment - the lot. Tell me everything and fast."
Trish's eyes widened at my tone, but he began to recite the list of weapons and defences they had. Musketeers, bombs, magicians, shields, and spears were a few of the things he said that really stood out to me.
Wait… I can work with this.
Tension hung thick in the air like a heavy fog, but it was Trish who cut through the silence. His voice was firm and no-nonsense, betraying the urgency of the situation.
"Evan, do you have a plan? We're running out of time and we need to move to the East wall immediately."
I took a deep breath, my mind racing as I tried to come up with a solution. "Yes," I said finally, "but it's going to require the cooperation of everyone here."
Their faces were grim, but resolute.
I rushed to command everyone, “Okay! Daisy, I need you with me. Elizabeth, take Sarah with all her archers and get on top of the East wall. Rudolph, get all your knights with shields and spears and protect the East gate from the outside, don't attack the goblins, just stay put and block the gate.”
Rudolph looked at Elizabeth and only said “Understood.” when she nodded.
I continued, “Trish, get all the magicians and archers on top of the east wall and get all the knights and the Musketeers to help Rudolph. Remember, The knights only need to defend the gate, keep the musketeers behind the knights so they can shoot without any harm and give them all the bombs you can as well! Also, don’t worry about Daisy I’ll protect her.”
“Understood!” Trish said as he left quickly.
“Elizabeth!” I quickly called her when she was about to leave, “Tell all the assassins you have attack any goblins trying to spread out and attack through the north or south gate!”
She nodded before talking to Cerene as they both headed towards the east gate.
“What should I do!” Said Daisy sticking next to me with determination in her eyes.
“Like I said before, You’re coming with me.” I quickly kneeled down, “Get on my back.”
Daisy paused for a moment, “What?”
“We don’t have time! Every second counts! Just get on my back and hold on tight!”
“O-Okay!” She timidly climbed on my back and held on tight. “N-Now what?”
“Just remember, you let go of me, you die.”
“What?”
*The Goblin Army has Arrived!*
SHIT!!!
I didn’t have time to think and immediately started grappling my way towards the Adventurers Guild.
“AHHHHHH!” Daisy screamed as we moved like a bullet, There was chaos down in the streets so I had to move on top from the buildings. We reached the Adventurers guild in about half a minute and Daisy fell down from my back with tears in her eyes.
“Hey.” I snapped my fingers at her to wake her up. “Go in the guild and tell Ruby about the Evacuation plan, After that, just stick with her. I'm going to go help the others.” She started saying something but I ignored her whining and grappled back to the top of the east wall.
When I reached back, there was a slight chaos. The warriors were desperately trying to guard the gate, the Magicians were already out of Mana but the Archers were doing a pretty good job.
Elizabeth was relived to see me back, “Evan, the warriors won't last long like this!” She said with worry in her eyes.
I looked beneath the wall and there’s just a sea of green goblins overwhelming the Soldiers.
“Okay, it’s time for phase one of my plan.” Elizabeth looked at me with curiosity but I immediately addressed her, “Elizabeth, can you give the soldiers below some breathing space?”
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Elizabeth nodded and with a flick of her hand, summoned vines that swept across the battleground, knocking over goblins left and right. Meanwhile, I activated my ‘Gaia's Sentiment’ skill, which increases my Max Mana and Mana regeneration, before I started to crazily conjure up as many Mana balls as I can. I keep each of them on 20 Mana and on standby mode so they are just floating nearby, each one crackling with magical potential.
Since my Mana is also recharging crazily, I'm making around 6 Mana balls every second. If my Mana empties out, I just have to wait about 3 seconds to make it recharge completely, this is only because I’m not moving and have a mana regeneration skill activated. Otherwise it would’ve probably taken about 10 to 15 seconds to regenerate all mana.
“Listen up magicians! Use these Mana balls to recharge your mana! Keep a constant barrage of magical attacks on the enemy so they don’t break through the gate!” When the magicians heard me, they quickly started snatching the Mana balls, recharging themselves, and then attacking the goblins.
There was a total of 20 Magicians here and it looked like the sky was alive with magic as the Magicians unleashed their elemental fury upon the enemy. Fire and ice clashed in a tempestuous dance, while boulders and lightning bolts rained down with a fierce intensity. It was a scene of chaos and destruction, yet somehow, there was a strange beauty to it all.
It took a while, but I stopped after I made like a hundred Mana balls that were all floating in the air and slowly snatched by the mages.
“Elizabeth, use the Mana balls to recharge your mana. Your Vines attack can take out a large number of them in a single sweep but use them only on the goblins that are near the gate so that there’s less pressure on the knights with shields.”
Elizabeth nodded and I screamed to remind everyone, “EVERYONE! REMEMBER TO KEEP ATTACKING ON THE GOBLINS NEAR THE GATE! MAKE SURE NONE OF THEM PASS!”
{Author Note: Gandalf would be Proud.}
Alright, now for the Second Phase of my plan.
I quickly drink all the buff potions I had on me.
Regeneration: increase Life regeneration.
Iron skin: Defence increase by 8 points.
Swiftness: 25% increased movement speed.
“Elizabeth!” I called her out who was looking down the wall, “I’m going to proceed to the second phase of my plan!”
“What’s that?”
“don’t worry about it, just trust me.” I ran to the opposite end of the wall where there was no fight before I grappled to the edge where all the chaos was happening, I let the momentum guide me and launched myself directly into the middle of the Goblin army.
“Evan!” Elizabeth screamed with worry but the PARTY HAD ALREADY STARTED!
While I was flying, I put all my Mana into a mana ball and made it into a ball of pure ‘Seismic’ and ‘damage’ function. I held onto that ball of giant energy and waited for the perfect time to use it.
The grappling hook always ignores fall damage, so after I flew forward a certain distance. I grappled on the ground in the middle of the Goblins swarm and screamed “SMAAAASSSSHHHHH!!!” before punching the ground with the seismic mana ball.
A deafening boom was heard as the whole ground shook and a giant crater was formed in the middle of the battlefield, completely obliterating all the goblins who were unlucky to be near me, not even their blood was left to stain the charred ground. My action had such an impact that all the goblins that didn’t get pulverized had stopped their charge and looked at me with fear.
I looked up at them from the middle of the crater and was reminded of my first night here when I was surrounded by zombies and nearly died, only this time it’s different.
I equipped both of shotgun and changed my goggles for the black aviators I got from killing the Eye of Cthulhu. Yes, I kept them saved in my inventory for awesome moments like these.
“The only good Goblin is a dead one.” I said my one-liner as I ran into the horde guns blazing.
Daisy POV:
Evan is too cruel! First, he tells me to get on his back, then he starts flying in the city! Who does he think he is? He should have warned me! …I almost peed.
He's still correct though. The soldiers will get everyone on the west gate but someone needs to tell them what happens afterward.
I ran to the Guild and slammed open the door, there was only this one woman here behind the counter with red hair and small black horns working there.
She got alarmed when she saw me but still acted professionally, “Your Highness! Pardon my rudeness but what are you doing here? Did you not hear the warning?”
“Did the Soldiers come here yet?” I said impatiently.
She looked at me confused, “What Soldiers?”
“The Soldier will tell you that an evacuation is in progress. Evan left me here to tell you that someone needs to go to the west gate and guide all the citizen to near his house.”
She made a serious face and nodded. “Understood. I will head out as soon as I make someone takes over my shift.”
I sighed in relief but just that moment I saw the Guild master, my good friend, walking downstairs in a hurry.
“Your Highness! What are you doing Here!? Its Dangerous out here right now.”
Though she is the Guild Master. She is also a close friend of mine and when we're alone I would always call her Evangie. “Evan left me here, he wanted me to relay some instructions which I did. I'm going back to the frontlines now.”
“Wait, I’ll go with you!”
I nodded. While she is the Guild Master. She's also a Dragon-Kin which means that her ancestors were Dragons and she has some of their powers in her blood. Being a Dragon-Kin, she has some amazing Draconic magic with her, which was another reason I approved of her being a Guild Master.
She can absolutely help us!
Evan POV:
The army was making sure that no goblin passes through gate while I was making sure to kill and cause as much chaos as I could. The archers and the magicians were doing a pretty good job, though they avoided attacking near me, probably so that they don't hurt me.
Elizabeth would every now and then summon a giant vine near me that would sweep every goblin off the battlefield giving me much needed space to think, I could just do the seismic slam I did before, But I will be out of mana and I need to move a lot which meant I would be out of mana for the next 10 seconds which is a and could get me killed if I’m not careful.
We kept fighting for 15 minutes straight. But that didn't even make a dent on the Goblins numbers. The Goblin event bar was only 8.2% complete.
If I kept this up, I'll just burn out of ammo and potions. I need a better plan. Oh, and I only had 30% stamina left too. I KNEW I SHOULD'VE SLEPT YESTERDAY!!!!
I started retreated and grappled back up to the wall when I saw the chance. We need a new strategy.
Elizabeth and the others were still here but there was an addition of Daisy and Ruby here.
“Are you okay, Evan?” Elizabeth asked me with worry but her eyes did not leave the battleground.
“I am but damn. We need a better strategy otherwise it's only a matter of time before we all tire out.”
“We've also almost run out of your Mana Balls.” On of the magicians yelled out and I noticed the lack of floating mana balls, my eyes went towards ruby out of instinct but she quickly shook her head.
“Hey Ruby. How's the Evacuation?” If Worse comes to Worst, Then We'll have to Evacuate as well.
“I left most of the things to Liza, I have confidence she'll be able to do it. Other than that, the Evacuation has just begun, it will take at least another hour at best for all the civilians to leave.”
Damn!
“Evan..... How's the fight going?” Daisy said as her eyes were shaking with fear.
“Well,” I said before being brutally honest, “We're Pretty much Screwed. The Enemies are too many and not only do we not have enough supplies. We don't have enough manpower either. Even if we somehow get Tons of Supplies. We don't have enough manpower to fight them all without help.
Elizabeth then spoke with sadness, “Sorry… I only brought less than a quarter of my Army. The rest are back at the Kingdom, Repairing and defending it.”
“It’s understandable, but damn. We need a flippen Miracle to win this one.”
…If only I had a Star Cannon which shoots fallen stars and pierce indefinitely, none of the Goblins would survive.
We're all racking our brains for a new strategy.
“… There is a way.” Surprisingly, It was ruby who said that, We all looked at her with hope and she took in a deep breath.
“Evan, can I talk to you in private for a minute?” She said as she walked away from the chaos.
