*Evan POV*
Now then, Let’s give Tifa’s family some privacy and I should think about my next move. Let’s see…
I slowly started walking away from the room aimlessly as I got lost in my thought.
The list of things that I have to do increased a little bit, but first and foremost is still finding a way back home, there’s a certain amount of leads I have but they’re all over the place and it would take a bit of time to finish. I have to check out the library and maybe find some stories or legends about ‘people from another world’ which may give me a clue. I also have to explore outwards a bit more, and maybe find some more civilization from which I may get a hint from them as well.
Secondly, I need to get stronger and get some allies or partners, doing everything alone is not only hard, but also very time consuming. I can’t involve my own family into this, because one, they’ll suspect my motives for which I don’t and can’t answer because it will lead back to the amnesia story that I’m going with, and two, at the very least I don’t want to involve Reid’s friends and family into this. I’m taking over his body, so at the very least, I want to protect his friends and family.
This means that my best shot at getting allies is from the Elven race since I already have a good reputation among them, that can’t be said exactly for the Human race but I’ll take what I can get… No. I’ll have to get on their good side as well. no matter how much I want to find information, it’ll be impossible to accomplish if the other party hates me. At the very least, if I can solve some of their problems to get on their good side for some info… then that would be the best-case scenario. As long as they don’t hate me it’s good.
As for the strengthening myself up part, I’ll just have to get better equipment and finding out more skills.
I was going to walk downstairs but I noticed Mia walking upstairs while holding onto a tray, there was a bowl of fruit salad and cup of water on the tray, I noticed some of the fruit were the ones I picked with Mia before.
“Ah, brother! I didn’t notice you coming back.” Mia seemed to be pleasantly surprised.
“Oh, yea, stuff happened so I couldn’t come tell you all but I brought Tifa back.”
“I see, then maybe I should get another bowl of food for them.”
“Make it three, since one of Tifa’s friend, who was caught in the crossfire is also there.” Mia tilted her head in confusion so I grabbed the glass of water from her tray to make it easier for her and motioned her to come back down with me.
Actually, now that I think about it… Since when did we got drinkable water?
The house was made in a hurry, the only thing that’s really functionable are the bedrooms and bathrooms, there’s basic facilities in the kitchen like a cooking pot, utensils, plates, cups and trays made with clay but I don’t remember making a sink yet.
“Hey Mia, where did you get this water from?”
“Oh, that’s my water.” I waited for further explanation but she didn’t give any.
… Flippen excuse me?
I looked at the water sloshing around in the cup, before looking back at Mia who was smiling while carefully walking downstairs with me.
“Uh Mia, what do you mean by… Your water?”
I kept staring at her, wishing what I was thinking was absolutely wrong, “Oh yea, you forgot about our mastered elements right?” Mia said with a bittersweet smile, “My main job is a being a maid, but I’m also a water mage, I know a variety of utility and offensive spells, one of the spells creates clear drinkable water.”
Oh, Thank God! It wasn’t what I was thinking. This is just water made with magic.
“Oh, so that’s what you meant by your water.”
“Yep, Incidentally, Mother’s mastered element is the Light and Ice element, Father’s is body strengthening type, and Luna’s is Ice element.” She paused for a second, almost as if she thinking that something was wrong, “Your is, or was the Arcane element, but I wonder if it changed after you became a Hero.”
Arcane element? It sounds cool as hell but I have no clue what it means, none of the Terraria’s magic-type weapons also come to mind which would be ‘Arcane element’. Also, what does she meant by mastered element? Does she mean that they can’t use any element beside mastered element, or does the mastered element have increased stats, such as better damage than usual or something?
I was going to ask her for details but we already reached the kitchen, I made the floor here out of cobble stone since I was afraid that the fire used for the cooking pot might burn the house down, and I already have that fear due to playing sims every now and then back on earth. I put a wooden table next to the wall here with four chairs because the kitchen was a bit empty, but right now, Nezha, Helputt and Luna were all sitting there eating the rabbit stew and the fruits salad that was placed on the table.
I was going to start explaining things on what happened but I saw Mia getting more bowls for the extra people upstairs so I decided to help her first, though at the very least, I did tell them that Tifa was back and saw Nezha getting relived.
I helped Mia bring the food upstairs but we didn’t go inside, Mia just knocked on their door and told them that she left some food for them outside. Once this small thing was finished, we went back to the kitchen, I grabbed an extra chair from the workshop area, and then all five of us sat down in kitchen.
I grabbed a bowl, of fruit salad and started explaining everything that happened while taking a bite every now and then. The fruit salad was nice, sweet and a bit tangy.
“Thank god, everything is alright in the end.” Nezha said, after finishing her bowl of rabbit stew.
Helputt nodded while Luna kept eating her food while occasionally peeking at me.
I asked Mia to continue from where we left of last time, about the arcane element and the mastery element she was talking about.
Apparently, the Arcane Element, that I’m supposed to be mastered in, is another name for attribute-less magic, or, spells without an element. A couple of Terraria weapons immediately came to mind when she said spells without an element, such as the magic missile, space gun, bee gun, sky fracture and stuff like that. Not really a fan of them, but that doesn’t mean I hate them. Problem is, I didn’t or haven’t received any message about having element mastery, I checked my skills and stats tab as well but there’s nothing about arcane mastery.
Next, she told me about what element mastery meant, it meant that the control over that element is higher than all other element but it’s just a fancy word for increased stats over that element, meaning if you have element mastery over the fire element, all fire spells will deal more damage, have less time to cast and will have less mana cost than someone who doesn’t have mastery over it. Apparently, a specific element is attuned to you after you’re born, so you can’t exactly change your mastery over it but you can become a hybrid if you don’t like your element which lowers the stats boost from mastery over your specific element, to mastery over two elements. Meaning, instead of a 20% damage boost over fire, you’ll have a 10% damage boost over fire and one more element of your choice.
Generally becoming a hybrid is frowned upon but its up to you in the end. Anyways, Nezha gave me a quick crash course on all existing elements along with their strengths and weaknesses. There’re also two different types of Magic elements, one is the pure element type that I’m all too familiar with (Fire, water, nature, etc.) The other is the special element type, which I’ll explain in a bit.
Firstly, let’s talk about the pure element type mastery, from the most common element mastery that people get to the rarest one.
Fire – Lots of damage and damage over time along with large AOE damage but very low utility or defensive ability.
Water – Lots of utility and versatility along with high penetrating power but low defensive power
Pure Nature – Lots of buffs and debuffs but very low burst damage, defensive or utility ability, meaning the element is slow but packs a punch later.
Earth – High defensive ability and burst damage with terrain changing ability but almost no utility.
Wind – Jack of all trades, but has higher utility compared to its offensive and defensive ability, can also deal huge knockback and send targets flying.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Lightning – High burst damage with the ability to paralyze and chain damage to other enemies but low utility and almost no defensive ability.
Ice – high damage and utility with the power to slow or freeze but almost low defensive ability.
Surprising to see that Ice is the rarest element to get a mastery over especially since there’s two people sitting here with it. But Nezha explained that mastery over rare elements like Ice and Lightning doesn’t mean that element is good. For example, Ice, the rarest element, gets easily countered by Fire, the most common element. Similarly, Lightning element can easily get countered by Wind element by basically knock everyone away so lightning’s ability to chain to another person gets negated, and so on.
Now time to talk about the Special element type mastery, which is somewhat similar yet different at the same time. Unlike the pure element types which can easily be categorized into their base offensive, defensive and utility skills, special element types can’t be categorized as such and their ability is equal to the skill of its user, meaning people who have the same special element type mastery can either lose a fight against a rat or win against God himself depending on the person, I’m obviously exaggerating but it’s simple to understand it this way.
There’re only four special element type, but special element types are harder to get compared to pure element types. Let’s talk about those from the most common to the rarest,
Special Nature – Apparently Nature element is both a pure and a special element type. This is because it can be categorized most of the times… until it can’t be. Examples of people who use the special nature magic type are, The Dryad, and Elizabeth the Elven Queen. Which makes sense because nature element is supposed to be slow yet deadly, but I was getting my ass beat from the start when fighting Elizabeth.
Body-strengthening – Extremely high utility, but this element can only target its own user. In a simple sense, it’s magic that can make you do better in any specific department and surpass your limits. The mana eyes I unlocked earlier are categorized Body-strengthening.
Arcane – Super versatile, Jack of all trades, can do basically everything in all departments but extremely hard to control even with mastery along with a very high mana cost.
Dark – High utility along with many unique debuffs specific to its element and the only element that can change the mentality of targets but low buffing ability along with no offensive ability. Surprisingly, Pain-immunity Senpai is a Dark element ability.
Light – High utility along with many unique buffs specific to its element and the only element that can burst heal but low debuffing ability along with no offensive ability.
Now, everyone can use all the elements, but if you don’t have mastery over it, you’ll just keep screwing yourself over, but you can overcome the gap with lots of practice.
You can find out about which element type you have mastery over by looking into a crystal ball which makes no sense since that thing is a hard-mode item sold by a Wizard, but to unlock hard-mode, you need to kill the Wall of flesh on the underworld which I certainly haven’t done yet. But then I remembered Tania the dryad talking about how all NPC’s had a life before this so I’m guessing the Wizard, sold a bunch of Crystal balls before dying and now they’re getting passed around for people to check their mastery element over.
This small crash course was probably a whole hour long talk, with Nezha explaining everything, but everyone else was also listening attentively. I’m guessing they’re also having fun listening.
Now… what do I do? Should I wait for Tifa and the others to come out and then ask them for help in finding a way back home? Or should I do something else like practice and experiment with getting more skills like how I learned mana-ball and the mana-eyes earlier?
… Wait, I almost forgot about Lucy and Oswald who’re stuck back at the kingdom. Should I go grab them first? They cause problems for me whenever they’re not under my view so it’s not a bad idea but… You know what? Let’s go grab those two first. I might be able to use them to sweeten my relationship with the Queen because I remember they have some connections with her. Wait, didn’t she wanted my help to unify the races or something? I can just tell her to come here and meet the Elves Queen and that will instantly boost up my standings with her, which also means I can get more info out of her. Oh yea, It’s all coming together.
I finally stood up from my chair and started talking, “That was fun, and really educational but you’ll have to excuse me. I have some business at the human Kingdom so I’ll be back soon.” Helputt and Nezha looked at me surprised but I didn’t expect Luna to voice out a complain.
“Wait, Evan. Take me with you.”
I looked at her confused, “Wait what? No. I’m going there due to some important reasons and I can’t bring anyone with me since I’m half sure that I’m still a fugitive.”
Luna didn’t back down, “Didn’t the Guild’s master told everyone that you were protected by her! And let’s not forget Tifa also saying the Elven kingdom is protecting you.”
“Yea but you never know what dangers lurk in the shadows.”
“I’m also tired from all the things that happened! I want to hang out and unwind a bit, is that too much to ask?”
“We can do that after I come back.”
“Mom!”
Hey! That’s cheating!
Nezha looked like she was enjoying it while Mia stood up and started clearing the table. “Evan You should bring Luna with you. She'll only get bored here but she can help you over there too.”
“Nope! Not happening.” If Luna’s gonna pull out her mother’s card then I’m gonna pull out my lying and making excuses card, “I just have to go there, talk to someone, and get out. And I can’t bring anyone with me because I have to be alone since it’s a really important person.”
“Really important person?” Nezha said almost as if a fun idea popped into her head, “Don’t tell me, are you going to go meet a girl”
What seemed like a harmless prank suddenly turned the atmosphere… Cold? “Well, I mean, yea? But I don’t think that’s a problem?”
Daisy is a girl in the end.
“Oh! Evan, you naughty little boy!” Nezha looked like she was having fun while Helputt was trying to calm her down.
Does she think I’m going out for a date?
I don’t know why but the room’s temperature had suddenly dropped down. “Evan.” Luna’s words gave me goosebumps, it was like my survival Instinct flaring up and telling me that I cannot mess up. “Are you secretly meeting a girl?”
“N-No, of course not.” I don’t even know why I got scared, and it’s not exactly a secret since I’m literally telling you guys right? I’m guessing she’s just worried that I got into any bad business, but there’s no way I’m telling her that I’m gonna go meet the Queen of the Human kingdom.
She stared at me for a couple of moments until she suddenly smiled, “Okay. You know what, I’ll stay here. You go and be on your way.”
“R-Really?” I asked hesitantly, almost not believing her words.
“Yep! Have fun!”
“Alright thanks, I promise I’ll take you out afterwards!”
I said my piece and quickly went upstairs, the first thing to do is sort out my inventory before moving forward. While sorting out my inventory, I had forgotten to use the evil ore that dropped from Eye of Cthulhu. Usually, it drops only one type of evil ore and that corresponds to which evil biome is in the world. For example, if you have the corruption evil biome, you would get Demonite ore, and similarly, Crimtane for the crimson biome. But for some reason, the Eye of Cthulhu dropped both the evil ores, which is not a bad thing in the slightest since it means I get double the ores.
The materials still weren't a lot and there’s not much you could make with just the evil ore itself, so I only created two weapons for now. One being a giant machete-shaped sword called the Blood Butcherer made with Crimtane bars which you get from the Crimson biome infamous for being a red bloody and fleshy mess. It is a black metallic sword with red veins pulsing over it as if it was alive. The sword itself was about 2 meters long and bigger than the giant wooden sword I had since the beginning.
Yep, this is what you call an evil sword.
Legendary Bloody Butcherer
Damage: 25
Knockback: Weak
Critical chance: 9%
Use time: Fast
Legendary:
+15% Damage
+10% Speed
+5% Critical strike chance
+10% Size
+15% Knockback
The other weapon I created was the Demon bow made from Demonite bars. It had a dark purple sheen on it spikes protruding outwards from it’s bow limbs. It was giving off a faint feeling of decay as well.
Unreal Demon Bow
Damage: 16
Knockback: Weak
Critical chance: 9%
Speed: Fast
Unreal:
+15% Damage
+10% Speed
+5% Critical strike chance
+10% Size
+15% Knockback
Alright! Now that I finally have some good weapons, it’s time to head out.
*Luna POV*
Hehehe…
Evan…
Have you realized it yet?
There’re way too many girls surrounding you as of late.
And now you want to go out and meet a girl behind my back?
Unacceptable.
I’ll quietly follow you from behind. And once I’ve seen the nympho who’s making you do these weird things… I’ll catch her, and then I’ll use her to make you come back to me and then I’ll… hehehe.
The rest is a surprise!
When I deceived everyone into thinking I had gone back into my room, I sneaked out and was hiding near the entrance. For now, I’ll follow behind him quietly. I need to know everything he’s hiding from I won’t let him get away this time.
After a little while, I saw Evan come out of the house, wave to Jeff who was just patrolling around, and then take out some kind metallic chain which latched onto a nearby tree and he flew away with insane speed that I lost him in mere seconds.
…
D-Don't think this Is over! I know where you're going! If I hurry up now, I’ll find you there sooner or later!
“Sis?” Someone called me and I almost jumped out of the bush I was hiding in. I looked back and noticed it was Mia.
“Oh, it’s just you Mia.”
“I knew It! You were going to follow brother weren't you!”
I nodded, “Yes, and you’re helping me.”
“W-What?” She looked like she didn’t want to get involved but it involved her brother so she’d definitely go and help me keep tabs on Eva- I mean help me find evidenc- I mean help me help Evan!
I grabbed her shoulders so she wouldn’t run away “Mia, we have to make sure that Evan doesn't get in the wrong hands. He doesn’t have any memory of any of us. Anyone can go up to him and say that he or she is their friend and he’ll accept it! He's very Gullible and for someone else to take advantage of him is wrong! Do you want someone to take advantage and hurt him?”
“N-No.”
“Yes that’s right, We can’t let anyone hurt Evan right?”
She finally nodded albeit hesitantly, “Y-You’re right, but we should at least tell someone we’re leaving.”
“Oh, okay.” I let go of her shoulders and walked towards Jeff who was patrolling around, “Jeff, could you tell everyone a little bit later that we left the house to hang out?”
“Of course.” Jeff nodded and bowed a bit. I happily turned around to look at Mia and she had a short sword strapped on her hip which I didn’t notice before.
“Hey Mia, where did you get that?” I pointed at her sword.
“This?” Her face suddenly brightened up, “Brother gifted it to me!”
Oh did he now? He’s been going around and gifting things to other girls but doesn’t even accept any of my requests now, does he?
Ufufufufu.
Evan you naughty boy.
I’m not letting you run away this time, Evan.
