Chapter 33: Backstories

{Third person POV}

Twenty-one years ago…

Trinity was only five years old when she first learned how much her mother hated her. It was mother's day and Trinity wanted to celebrate with her mom. She loved her mom so much and she even had a present for her along with a heartfelt note.

The morning of Mother's Day Trinity was walking around the corner to her mom's room wanting to serve her breakfast in bed. When she got near her Mom's room she stopped short when she heard two voices coming from her room. One voice was her Mother's voice and the other voice was her Step-father's voice.

"So why the hell are you interested in my bastard child?" Mother said.

"She's not a bastard child just because you rejected your mate to marry me," Step-father said. "You're just jealous because of how much power she has and she's not even of age to cast her first spell yet!" He chuckled, "I must say she's going to make a powerful witch one of these days! Too bad she's not of age to be married yet."

Mother gagged. "You're disgusting! The fact that you would even consider looking at my bastard child makes me want to puke!"

Trinity dropped the tray of food she had in her hands and the ceramic vase that had six red roses in it shattered on the floor. After she ran off she chucked the gift that she had bought her Mother in the fireplace and started a fire. While she threw the gift in the fire she didn't throw the heartfelt letter in there because she wanted her mother to know how much knowing that her mom hated her hurts.

Trinity placed the letter on the kitchen counter top where the remains of the breakfast she made for her mother were and she wrote another letter. This letter was short and to the point. It said:

Dear Mom,

You hate me so I hate you!

Sincerely,

Mary

Trinity's name used to be Mary before her birth name got archived and changed to Trinity. After she finished writing the note she ran out of the house crying.

Later that night when she came home her Mother had cooked dinner and acted as if nothing happened. Her Step-father on the other hand was giving a really creepy look that made her skin crawl. Ever since that day she vowed that she would always hate her mother and she didn't want any man to look at her the way Step-father looked at her.

Ever since she started school, in Kindergarten she had a couple of boys give her that same type of creepy look her Step-father gave her. She had no idea what that look meant until she started High School and learned about sex education. She asked her teacher about the looks she was getting from a lot of the boys in her class.

Her teacher explained to her that meant those boys wanted to have sex with her and probably having fantasies about her in their heads. When she found that out, she felt sick to her stomach. She didn't want to be viewed in that way by any man. She wasn't ready for that as a matter of fact, she hadn't gone through puberty at that time because witches don't go through puberty until they've casted their first spell.

Trinity didn't have to worry about her Step-father trying anything because shortly before she casted her first spell her mother poisoned her Step-father and killed him and that also happened right after her younger sister was born.

It wasn't until Trinity casted her first spell when she saved her fellow students, her teachers and her bus driver from a school bus minutes before it exploded into an inferno! The thing about that was that she was the only one who got injured. She had smoke inhalation and magic exhaustion. The very day she saved people from that bus was the very day she shifted into her wolf.

She heard a voice in her head saying that her wolf's name was Danger, which she thought was a rather odd name for a wolf. Danger instructed her to go to a nearby river so she could see what Danger looked like.

Danger's fur was a mixture of brown and black fur. It looked like she had mostly black fur with brown highlights to me. The brown highlights looked a lot like tiger stripes going down her back. She had brown patches of fur on her paws and ears. She also had one strip of gold colored fur going across her forehead that made it look like she was wearing a crown or some type of tiara.

While Trinity thought her wolf's appearance was beautiful, she didn't know what to make of what was happening to her at the time. What was happening to her started to freak her out so she ran. She was running to neutral territory beyond her coven's borders. However, she didn't get very far when she came across another wolf. This wolf was a gray and white wolf with black eyes and they paused and they just stood there staring at each other.

The staring contest was broken when Danger shouted the word 'Mate' inside Trinity's head. The wolf that Trinity was staring at perked up and he seemed excited. But Trinity on the other hand turned tail and ran back to her coven as fast as she could.

That very day was the day that her mother put her chastity belt on her and casted a spell on her to make her think that she was a full blooded witch and not a hybrid. She really is a hybrid but that spell her mother casted on her made her think otherwise.

When Trinity got back home she got her chastity belt put on her and she was sent to boot camp for young witches to start learning how to do hand to hand combat and develop their magic.

Her first day in boot camp wasn't good. Well the day started off good but then everything went to hell when she met her drill sergeant named Sergeant Mckensy.

Trinity had gone to her assigned cabin and instantly made a friend whose name was Sharry.

"Hey there, my name is Sharry," said Sharry. "What's yours?"

"My name is Mary," She replied.

"That's a nice name, what coven are you from?" Sharry asked.

"IronClad Coven."

"Oh really? Wow that's the coven I'm from! What border do you live at? We can be the best of friends if you want?"

"Sure-"

Trinity couldn't finish her sentence when Sergeant Mckensy came storming into the cabin and yelled, "Attennnntion!"

Trinity and Sharry saw the other witches stand in front of their bunk beds so they did the same thing. Sergeant Mckensy walked slowly towards the young witches standing in front of their bunk beds.

"My name is Sergeant Mckensy and during your stay here you will address me as Sergeant or Sir, if you understand me then respond by saying, 'Sir, yes sir!' Do. You. Understand. Me?" Sergeant Mckensy barked.

"Sir, yes sir!" Every witch including Trinity shouted in response.

Sergeant Mckensy raised his volume, "I can't heeeeaaar youuuuu!"

"SIR, YES SIR!" Everyone responded.

Sergeant Mckensy gave an authoritative nod. "Good my little witches!" He smirked when he saw Trinity. "Well, well, well what do we have here? Little Witch state your name and the coven you're from!"

"Sir my name is Mary Ava Dawn and I am from the IronClad Coven sir!" Trinity responded.

He raised an eyebrow. "And why would the daughter of the High Priestess of the IronClad Coven be sent to boot camp? Don't the Coven leaders usually train their own children?"

As soon as he said that everyone except Trinity and Sergeant Mckensy gasped. Trinity shook her head and didn't bother to hide her annoyance with Sergeant Mckensy. "I don't know. Why don't you ask the old hag that I have for a mother!"

Sergeant Mckensy narrowed his eyes. "What was that Little Witch?"

"Okay, first of all, I'm not little! And second, I know you heard me so don't play dumb and act like you didn't!" Trinity snapped.

That action earned another gasp from everyone in the cabin. The atmosphere was now tense but the tension was broken once Sergeant Mckensy went up to Trinity and got right in her face and shouted, "DO NOT DISRESPECT YOUR ELDERS EVEN WHEN THEY AREN'T HERE! DO WE HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING LITTLE WITCH?"

Trinity bit the inside of her cheek to calm herself down. She knew that if she didn't respond in the right way then whatever punishment Sergeant Mckensy had in mind for her would be ten times worse. She looked Sergeant Mckensy dead in the eyes and shouted, "Sir yes sir!"

He gave her a sinister smile. "Good to know we have an understanding. You Little Witch, you're coming with me to the 'wall' for punishment!" He turned and addressed everyone else in the cabin, "As far as the rest of you goes, you go meet your training instructor out in the training yard. That is all and you're dismissed!"

Little did Trinity know, that was the day when her life would start to become Hell on Earth.

The boot camp that Trinity was sent to to learn hand to hand combat and develop her magic was the same boot camp that children who are future Alpha's train. Tyler was a future Alpha for the Steel Armor pack and when he figured out who his mate was he was scared at first but then he accepted it. The only problem was that since Trinity was from the IronClad Coven it was going to be very difficult for him to meet her.

"This is not good," Tyler said. He was talking to his best friend and future Beta Theo.

Theo nodded. "Yeah I don't envy your situation! I mean your mate is the daughter of the leader of the IronClad Coven! Not to mention it looks like she's a troublemaker."

Tyler tilted his head. "Troublemaker? What do you mean?"

"She was just sent to the 'wall' punishment today and from what I know of it's her first day at boot camp too!" Theo answered.

Tyler gasped, "Seriously? She can't be that bad! And if she is, that would be understandable because of the coven she's from."

"She's not much of a troublemaker, she's just rebellious," they heard the voice of another future Alpha named Mark say.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Tyler looked at him. "What do you mean by that?"

"I heard Mary's conversation with Sergeant Mckensy and it looks like Sergeant Mckensy has found a new target!" Mark said, "I heard those two exchange words. Sergeant Mckensy pointed out that Mary shouldn't be here because she's daughter of the High Priestess and she shouldn't be here. Which he's not wrong because usually Coven leaders usually train their own children. Mary's response was and I quote, okay, first of all, I'm not little! And second, I know you heard me so don't play dumb and act like you didn't!

"So she's not really a troublemaker as of yet. I think she has some mommy issues. Because if she didn't she wouldn't have said that about her own mother. And if she becomes a troublemaker that wouldn't surprise me because of the coven she's from."

At that moment, Tyler came up with a plan. From that day forward he was going to stalk his mate and hopefully one day he could get her to accept him. Until then he would have to wait.

Two years later from the same flashback…

When Trinity finally figured out what the Black Lotto Ceremony was she was mortified! She found out because she overheard her mom talking to her assistant.

So that's why the people on that altar look like they're asleep after the ceremony is done! They're not asleep! They're dead! There's no way in hell I'm attending the ceremony! Nope, it's not happening! Trinity thought. She was only sixteen at the time and halfway through her boot camp training. She'd go to school with bumps and bruises (courtesy of Sergeant Mckensy) and didn't bother to hide them like most people would.

It was around that time when she decided to run away from home. One day at school she was talking to her best friend Sharry about what she planned to do.

"Are you nuts? You want to run away from home?" Sharry said, "Look I understand you're having some issues at home but when and if you're caught, boot camp will be much worse for you than it is now! It's almost like you have a death wish or something!"

Trinity crossed her arms and scoffed, "Well maybe I do have a death wish! I know what the Black Lotto Ceremony is and I don't want to be a part of it anymore! I'm leaving and I'm not telling you what day and time I'm leaving either."

"Seriously? Why?" Sharry said.

"Do you know how cruel my Mom's interrogation methods are?" Trinity said, "I'm trying to keep you out of this as much as possible. This is my problem to deal with and not yours, got it?"

Sharry bit her bottom lip and a short silence happened between her and Trinity when Sharry broke it, "Alright then, but since that is the case I'm not helping you leave!"

Trinity laughed, "That's fine because I don't need your help. I already have a plan."

Sharry gave her a skeptical look. "Alright then. I guess I'll see you when the hunters bring you back to the Coven."

Little did Trinity and Sharry know, Tyler, Trinity's mate, was standing around the corner listening to the whole conversation.

***

"Are you kidding me?" Theo said, "Mary wants to run away? Why?"

Tyler shook his head. "I have no idea, but she seemed rather upset about something."

"So what are you going to do?" Theo asked.

"You know how I've been following her around lately?" Tyler said.

Theo raised an eyebrow. "When you say 'following' you mean 'stalking' right?"

"No, I've been following her around! Not stalking!" Tyler quickly denied it. A little too quickly.

Theo chuckled, "Okay, okay chill dude! So what's your plan?"

"Well knowing Mary she'll probably run to a neutral territory and hide there for a while until she has to run to someplace else," Tyler said. "And who knows what territory she'll run into!"

"And how are you planning on explaining your absence from school?" Theo questioned.

"Hmm, I'll talk to Dad about it. I'm sure he'll help me come up with something," Tyler said.

Theo shrugged. "Alright then."

So that is exactly what Tyler did. He told his Dad about what was going on and his Dad actually agreed with him. When Trinity left her Coven and ran away, Tyler followed her but he made sure to keep out of sight.

"Who sent you?" Trinity snarled. She was staring at the hunter who had cornered her and she wasn't afraid of the barrel of a gun. As a matter of fact, she stared right into the hole where the bullet would come out of. The hunter had his finger on trigger.

Trinity rolled her eyes when she figured out who sent the hunters after her. It was her own mother and that didn't surprise her. "Actually don't answer that question, my Mother sent you, didn't she?"

The hunter relaxed his finger from the trigger. "Oh so you already know why we're here! Good, now if you have any common sense you'll come back with us. However, your Mother did say that she wanted you back at the Coven dead or alive. If you come back with us willingly we won't have to kill you. If you don't… Well you know the answer to that one."

Trinity smirked and used the opportunity to wrestle the gun out of the hunter's hand. She pointed the hunter's gun at him and laughed, "Do you really think I'm afraid of dying? As a matter of fact, I welcome the idea! Oh and tell your little buddies to stop hiding in the shadows like cowards!"

Right after Trinity said that nine people came out of the shadows armed with guns and silver daggers. Trinity kept her smirk because she knew that every single hunter standing in front of her was going to die today.

Before the leader of the hunter's could react or any of the hunter's could say anything Trinity pulled on the trigger.

POW! POW! POW!

The sound was echoed over thirteen times. When Trinity finished firing her gun all ten of the hunter's that included their leader were on the floor dead. She went over to one of the dead hunters and fished out their bag a notepad. She grinned when she saw the wanted poster that her mother had put out on her. The reward for the hunters was supposed to be ten thousand dollars!

She scoffed and said to herself, "It's good to know that my life has a price tag on it Mother. You just gave me reasons to add to my list of reasons to hate you." She remembered that it was Mother's Day and she chuckled at the thought. "Oh that's right! I forgot, it's Mother's Day today. Let me write a little love letter to you then!"

She wrote on the wanted poster in her own blood. Her 'little note' said:

Dear Mom,

You still hate me and I still hate you! Happy Mother's Day bitch!

Sincerely,

Your Bastard Child Mary

After Trinity wrote the note, she turned on her heels and walked off as if nothing happened.

Tyler didn't get a chance to follow Trinity around on Mother's Day because he stayed home to celebrate the holiday. Tyler and his parents were watching the Tv when a breaking news report popped up.

"We interrupt this program because of breaking news!" The reporter in the news station said, "We'll turn this story over to Maria Mackintosh who's at the scene of the crime!"

The camera flipped over a woman who was the reporter and she was standing in front of an abandoned warehouse waiting for her cue to start talking. She finally spoke, "Yes this Maira Mackintosh and I'm standing here at the scene of the crime. Two hours ago, detectives found ten people with gunshot wounds to the head. Detectives think that this might have something to do with gang activity. However there was a note left at the scene of the crime possibly by the killer. The note reads:

Dear Mom,

You still hate me and I still hate you! Happy Mother's Day b**!

Sincerely,

Your B*** Child Mary

If anyone has any information on who the killer might be please call the number on the screen."

The camera then flipped back to the reporter at the news station. The reporter finished the reporter and the Tv program that was on before the breaking news happened came on.

Tyler and his parents stared that the Tv screen in horror.

"What the hell?" Tyler's Mom said, "Who the hell hates their mother so much that they would leave such a note?"

"Apparently someone who has mommy issues?" Tyler suggested.

His Dad just about choked on his food when Tyler suggested that. "I can't imagine the poor soul that would have to deal with a mother that they hate so much! Maybe if their mother showed them love and care they wouldn't have felt the need to kill people!" He shook his head in dismay. "That's just sad…"

Tyler nodded. He couldn't help but wonder if the person who killed those people had something to do with his mate because his mate's name was Mary at the time. But as soon as he thought that, he pushed the thoughts away. All he wanted to do that day was celebrate Mother's Day with his family and he did just that.

Twenty-four years later on Mother's Day three months before Trinity got attacked and before the Black Lotto Ceremony….

{Alice}

I sighed for the twelfth time feeling sad because it was Mother's Day. Another year knowing how much my daughter Mary hates me. Yes I know, that's not her name anymore and her name is Trinity, but she'll always be Mary to me. She'll always be Mary because she's my first born. True I call her my bastard child but I don't mean it in a hateful way even though that's what it sounds like. I say that about her out of jealousy.

Yup that's I'm jealous of my own daughter. I hide it by acting hateful towards her now. But that's mostly because she started being hateful towards me when she was five years old and I have no idea why.

Maybe I should've sat down and talked to her when she threw that fit on Mother's Day that year when she was five and asked how she was feeling? But no, because of my pride I didn't do it. It's too late now, she hates me and from what I know of she vowed to hate me. Sending hunter's after her and giving her and her family that she has now death threats isn't helping I know that.

My jealousy of her grows with each passing day because of how powerful she's getting. I wish I could be as powerful as she is but it seems that isn't the role I was meant to play in this life.

"What's wrong Mom?" My youngest daughter Ariel asked. At least I have one of my children that loves me.

"I still can't get over the fact that my first born daughter hates me so much!" I said, "And it all started on Mother's Day when she was five years old!"

Ariel frowned. "There must be a good reason why she has so much anger towards you."

I sighed and told her the story of how Mary threw that fit when she was five. I went out of my bedroom after I heard a loud bang when I was talking to my husband. When I saw a tray full of breakfast food shattered on the floor next to a vase that had roses in it my heart sank. I wondered if Mary threw that fit because she overheard my conversation with my husband?

Of course my husband didn't help matters when he said, "Aww how cute! Looks like your Bastard Child was going to give you breakfast in bed! Hmm, I wonder what kind of gift she was going to give you?"

I opened my mouth and quickly shut it because I was at a loss for words. Then I smelled a fire going on and I went around the corner and saw the fireplace going and I gasped when I saw two letters sitting on the countertop, one of the letters was a sweet heartfelt letter that made my heart melt. The other letter was short and to the point. It pretty much said that I hated her and now she hates me.

I turned off the fireplace and gasped when I saw a gold bracelet in the ashes. I picked up the bracelet and dropped it because it was still hot. Once the bracelet cooled down I looked at it to see that it had some engraving on it. The engraving said:

I love you Mom!

Happy Mother's Day!

Love,

Mary

"Aww your Bastard Child loves you!" My husband said, then he cleared his throat, "Oh wait, let me correct myself. Your Bastard Child loved you! Good luck dealing with a child who has mommy issues now!"

He walked off laughing and I still have no idea why he found it funny that my child hates me now. The night when Mary came home I acted as if nothing happened and from day onward she hated me. She still hates me with every being in her body!

After I told Ariel that story she frowned again. "Maybe and this is just a thought. Maybe if you had cleared up any misunderstanding between you two then she wouldn't hate you?"

I sighed and shook my head. "I don't know if that would've helped! And now we hate each other and I don't think there's any fixing this situation. Because she's married now and if she doesn't want to love me then she doesn't want to love me."

Ariel sighed, "Alright then," She went from sad to happy in a matter of seconds. "Hey at least you have one and her family who loves you!"

I smirked and teased, "Oh and which child is that?"

"Me!" Ariel chimed proudly.

I laughed, "Alright let's go celebrate Mother's Day."

***

Present Day…

{Trinity}

I smiled after I told Tyler one of my backstories and his reaction was kind of comical.

"Yeah I wonder if the reason why she didn't bother to try and fix any misunderstandings between you was because she has such a big ego?" Tyler said, "Yup that's the perfect way to fix issues with your child!" He mocked, "Mommy I hate you! The mom replies, 'Yes please keep the insults coming because I have too much of a big ego to try and be the better person! Yes and while I'm at it let's send hunter's after her when she runs away from home. Yup! That will fix all of my problems with my child! I am the perfect mother!'"

I chuckled. Then something occurred to me and it made me scared. Tyler tilted his head. "What's wrong?"

"What if I turn out to be like my mother? What if something like happens to me and my child starts to hate me? I-" I didn't get a chance to finish my twenty questions when I felt a couple of kicks in my stomach. I smiled, "They're kicking!"

I put Tyler's hand on my stomach and I felt another kick. He grinned. "Aww they're excited! But they can't wait to come out and see you! And when they get old enough they'll celebrate you as their mother because they love you!"

Tears welled up in my eyes and I couldn't stop smiling after he said that. I knew he was right and from that moment forward I was determined to be a better mother than my mother ever was!
