Amity hummed to herself as she kicked her feet in the air. She was on the counter of the kitchen while Emira cooked so she could watch while she waited for Luz to come over. This would be their first sleepover since they’d confessed to each other and it was proving hard for her not to just continuously squeal in excitement. Emira had warned her though that if she did it one more time, she’d regret it. Amity had no idea what she could mean though. The past few days had been heaven for the lovesick girl, to the point where even Willow was probably close to strangling her. Luz didn’t mind though and that’s what mattered. Her girlfriend didn’t mind. Her girlfriend who was going to be able to spend all night with her as her girlfriend. “Eeeeee!”
Emira snapped the ladle in her hand as her eye twitched. Amity, in all of her thinking, didn’t realize that her sister had actually been quite patient about the dozen small, high pitched whines that had come out while the two had been in the kitchen. She didn’t want to dampen her sister’s mood after all but Emira wanted to get this chowder done without having an aneurysm. “Mittens, may I bring up a possible issue with tonight?”
Amity sighed as she leaned back and her eyes turned to the ceiling. If she was honest, how much she’d looked at the pot would have been a pretty good question at this point. She didn’t care though. She didn’t care! “What could possibly be an issue with Luz?”
Emira smiled to herself as an illusion of hers came back with a new ladle and began fishing out the broken one so that its original could focus on Amity. “So, Luz is coming over, correct?”
“Eeeeee!”
Don’t. Murder. Baby. Sister. “And you two will probably be cuddled up nice and tight all night long, right?”
“If it’s like in my dreams…”
“Mhm. Pressed against each other tight and simply enjoying the warmth of the other?”
Amity almost fell over as she let out a giddy hum. Good. Emira made a circle in the air before an illusionary Luz appeared in front of her baby sister. She was in those forbidden shorts and a loose shirt and made Amity blush as she came incredibly close. “Amity, what do you think of snuggling in your bed? Just the two of us? Nice and tight?”
Amity opened her mouth to respond before her pupils became the size of pinheads. “W-Wait. You. Like that. Me. Nightgown. As girlfriends. Tight. Warm. Kissing. Cuddling.”

There was the Mittens that she knew. “Is something wrong, baby sister?”
There was no response from the younger girl who didn’t even blink for the next ten minutes before she finally left to go to her room. Once she was gone, Emira could see the burn marks left by Amity’s blushing face. It made the older Blight sister giggle. After all, just because she was happy for her sister didn’t mean she couldn’t torture her still.
“Hey, Emira, Edric said Amity was in here?”
Emira looked over for a second before returning to her soup. And then returning to looking at Luz. The human had indeed chosen the same outfit as her illusion, who now went poof as Emira remembered to dismiss it. That was going to be… Well, it was a matter of perspective but to her it was going to be fun. “Well, aren’t you looking all daring?”
Luz’s cheeks burned a bit as she walked over and then tapped the counter a bit. “Um, well, I know Amity likes this outfit and it’s genuinely really comfortable so, uh, is it a bit much?”
Emira shook her head before smiling down at Luz. “No, I just think it’s cute how brave you’re thinking about being tonight.”
Luz sucked in her lips in before poking her pointer fingers together. “Well, um, I just, uh, wanted to make this special…”
“Oh, trust me,” Emira said as she gave Luz bedroom eyes, “you could make it very special in those clothes.”
There was a long silence between the two before Luz turned on her heels and left. In sleepovers past, one of the two would commonly sleep poorly because they were in the same bed together, or just in the same room but otherwise it was normal. Safe. Tonight, Amity never left a giant fort of clothes, blankets, and just about anything else she could get ahold of to give herself a physical barrier from her girlfriend. Meanwhile Luz simply found a corner to tuck herself into a ball and lay on her side like she was waiting for death.
Edric dismissed an illusionary bat he’d sent in, just to make sure things were going well originally, before turning to his sister. “Don’t you think that was a little far?”
Emira blew lightly on the soup she’d made before looking at her brother. “Edric, the mere thought of Luz has been turning her to jelly for three days now. I think we can all agree she deserved a little bit of a reality check or anything else that would make her start functioning again.”
Edric sighed as he couldn’t even deny that his sister had a point. He couldn’t just leave the two like this though and so, once away from Emira, summoned a speakerphone right next to Amity’s ears at a range of almost three rooms away. “Mittens?” He paused to get a response that could only be called panicked squeaking to say more. “I thought I’d remind you that you do have that otter costume Eda and Lilith made for you. That way you could be the princess who was cuddling with her magical otter. Wouldn’t that be better than being scared in a corner?”
He didn’t bother waiting for a response. After all, he might be a helpless romantic himself but this was their relationship. He’d just give them a bit of a nudge to help fight Emira’s teasing so they could still enjoy tonight. So Amity could show off the new, turquoise nightgown she got to wear over a darker purple shift and dazzle Luz. So they could then snuggle into each other, Amity’s face firmly buried in the fuz of her otter’s neck, before falling asleep for the single best night’s sleep they’d had since finding out the other existed.
And an hour later, he’d smile as he checked back up on them and, while they weren’t sleeping yet, saw the two of them cuddled up just like they had planned to be originally as they quietly talked about Azura. He made sure to dismiss his spy before he stole a glimpse of any of their small, private kisses. Those were theirs, just like tonight was. He was just happy he’d made sure it had stayed that way.
