The Power of Love
An Effort Made

An Effort Made

“Hey Round E- Er, Luz.”

Luz jumped a little at the voice before scowling and turning around. Bosha of all people was there and she crossed her arms as the bully came closer. “What do you want? Don’t you have a kitten to punt or something?”

“Not until Tuesday, but thanks for checking.” The triclops checked her fingernails for a second before sighing as Luz’s face paled and the human’s jaw dropped. “You do recognize I’m kidding, right?”

Luz blinked a few times before laughing nervously and scratching the back of her head. “Oh, yeah. Of course. I was just making sure you didn’t think I could think you would do that.”

Bosha took in a long, slow breath in before saying, “I hate you so much. But,” she said as she rolled her eyes, “Amity cares about you. And I care about Amity, even if she’s gone softer than any of Willow’s old abominations. Therefor, I want to try and fix,” she waved her hand at Luz before finishing with, “this.”

“You just gestured at all of me.”

“Yep.”

Luz’s shoulders slumped before she glared at the bully. “You know, you’re not making the best case for me to try and like you. How do I know you’re not just going to make fun of Willow or Gus if they’re around.”

Bosha scoffed for a second before crossing her arms. “Why should I care about those nobodies? It was fun to torture Willow, sure, but that was of fleeting interest. I have better things to do with my time. Even more so for Pus.” It totally didn’t have anything to do with how her teammates had stopped listening to her until she dropped the Willow stuff. “I would be ignoring you too if I didn’t think you weren’t instrumental in me getting back into Amity’s good graces. She seems to think that while she dreams about being some normal kid that I’m the one who’s delusional and so I have to show I can maybe be a little nicer. So,” she said as she reached forward and patted Luz’s head, “that’s where you come in.”

Luz curled her hands into fists but she wasn’t about to lose it at the bully. After all, she suspected that just blowing off Bosha would just make her take out her annoyances on her friends. After all, they still lost that match so the triclops had no reason to ignore Willow outside of whim. “You know I could just tell Amity what you’re doing.”

Bosha shut her eyes tight as she curled her hands into fists before trying to relax. It was just so hard when this brat who didn’t have to try and be special was right in front of her. “Look, I mean it when I say I want to get along with you. We don’t have to lie and say we like each other but if we can get to where we tolerate the very fact that we both exist then that means another friend for Amity. Don’t you want that?”

“Bosha, anything you think Luz wants is probably wrong.” Amity then looked between the two girls before asking, “What are you two even doing talking to each other. I thought you two only shared venom between each other.”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Bosha looked away from her old friend before she could see her third eye wince in pain. She still couldn’t control it as well as she wanted. How did managing her emotions come so naturally to Amity? I guess that was a perk of being a Blight. You were so untouchable you had no reason to worry about anything. “Oh, we were talking about burying the hatchet maybe.”

Luz mumbled, “Maybe in my head,” before looking at Amity. She looked so tired as she looked at Bosha. How long had the two been friends? Then again, she actually had a pretty good idea since the bully was one of the friends her parents permitted when they forced Amity to cast Willow out of her friend group. She then glanced at Bosha and saw for a second how frustrated she looked. How many friends did she have?

And why did Luz have to care about that?

The energetic girl stepped closer to Bosha before wrapping an arm around the bully’s neck. “Yeah! She’s even said that she’s left Willow and Gus alone because becoming my friend meant so much to her!”

Bosha couldn’t help but think about how that was technically true. She wasn’t about to pretend to be that buddy buddy with the human though, even if it was in front of Amity. As such, she grabbed Luz’s arm and wrenched it off of her shoulder. “No touchy.”

Then both girls stopped dead as Amity giggled. It was a sound Bosha had missed so much, even if she only realized now how badly she’d wanted it specifically back into her life. The serious girl didn’t even stop there as she looked at her crush and said, “Don’t take it personally. It can take a good while for Bosha to let anyone get too close. She can’t seem like she likes other people after all.” She then paused for a second and whispered, “In fact, I don’t know who outside of me is allowed to.”

Bosha almost screamed that she was the only one but she couldn’t appear that desperate. She had a reputation to keep. Now if only she wasn’t desperate enough to have to not punch Luz when the human poked her in the side. “Ah, I bet a few nights together and I can get through that bubble.”

Bosha gave Luz the best death glare she could, to the point where her middle eye spun and Luz’s hair spontaneously combusted. Amity… actually laughed. “Wow, Bosha. You must care if you’re going to just hit Luz’s hair.”

And for Luz, at least after she’d mostly put out her hair, this was big. Bosha just gave her old friend a cocky smirk but it spoke volumes about the fact that, well, she could see why the bully was putting the effort into this. In fact, Luz couldn’t help but be a little jealous. After all, Amity forgiving blatant stupidity or the like was for her idiot, not some triclops. It was special between them. Or so she thought.

But Luz wasn’t the sort of girl to shove a possible friend away for something as petty as that. So, instead of harrumphing, she pointed at her head. “Actually, I’ve thought about getting some black tips so could you help me check out how those would look, Bo?”

This time Luz was thrown against the wall by a fire blast. Bosha panted for a second as she held her extended hand towards the human before paling and looking back at Amity. Amity’s eyes were wide before she ran over to her crush. She then looked back at Bosha with hate in her eyes.

It hurt. It hurt so badly. But Bosha couldn’t just run off like a scared sheep. She had too much she had to constantly prove on the line. So, instead, she let out a brief, “Tsk,” before turning on her heels and walking away. Once no one could see her though, she couldn’t help but take off at a dead sprint. Unfortunately, she didn’t really have anywhere to go. Not when she really didn’t wanna head home after this bullshit.

Not that Amity cared. Not for a second as she made sure there weren’t any stray flames on Luz. Luckily, the blast had been mostly hot air and, outside a bit more singing, her crush seemed mostly okay. That didn’t stop Amity from whispering, “Are you okay?”

Luz shook herself a little to get rid of the spinning in her head, only to realize how bad of an idea that was, before being unable to stop herself from laughing. “Wow, did you all really not use nicknames?”

Amity blinked a few times before blushing a little. “I mean, it wasn’t really our style.” She then scowled before snapping out, “Wait, why are you just brushing this off? Bosha attacked you!”

Luz couldn’t help but smirk before leaning in towards Amity and getting just a little closer than the serious girl would have preferred. “You know, if I held that against her, I would need to talk to you about the time you tried to have me dissected just because I got Willow a better grade than you for a week.”

Amity opened her mouth, closed it, opened it one more time, and then finally smacked her forehead before getting up. “Come on. I’m taking you to the nurse’s office just in case.”
