Two Wolves

After a shocking discovery about Rin's real identity, a surge of lost-memories came back to my head like a wildfire. I remembered clearly now how we used to play as children in an open yard near someone's house. It all happened about more than ten years ago.

"Now you remember who I am. I can't believe that I must do that first," Rin or Miyu commented.

"But why do you hate me so much?" I asked again.

Rin sighed, then told a story with teary eyes, "Back then, when we like to play nearly every weekend, my dad told me and my brother about the curse to come. We were ordered to drink a pill that will make us forget about that--however that worked. I denied it, and decided to enjoy the last bit of my life knowing that I'll probably die a horrible death in the near future...

... I don't want to close my eyes to the impending doom, I want to make use of every single second until the curse comes, and spend it well with my brother. But then, fate decides that I must survive until now. Meeting you for the first time after more than ten years was bitter, you're the center of this whole thing, but didn't remember anything about me who chose to keep you in my memory, it hurts..."

Awkward silence emerged again, because I didn't know how to respond to her frustration.

"But I'm glad you finally remember me now. The more I try to hate you, I always remember our time together, the less I want to hate you," she finally smiled. Her blue eyes reflected the moon and stars above us.

"Well then... I'm... sorry," I smiled too, awkwardly while looking down, "so... can we go be to the old days now?"

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Rin sighed again, then lent a hand, "It's fine, come on," She then held my hand and walked along the yard for moments of nostalgia.

After a couple of weeks have passed, we were sent to Sector 17 to conquer it. This time around, we brace ourselves to put our maximum effort in bringing back Kotetsu when we meet him. Today was different than before, Ishigaki and Kazuki were recovered from their injuries and ready to battle.

Ishigaki seemed worried more than usual, I could see it right from his look to the outside world from the chopper. I asked him how he felt about all this, he just answered softly while lightly shaking his head, "I'm alright, nothing to worry about,"

After arriving at Sector 17 we started to take down the possessed as well as trying to destroy the cellular towers. Nothing seemed out of ordinary, except for the fact that the demons haven't shown up yet the first hours we're there. After clearing the area from the normal-type possessed and some zombies, the horde stopped and we were finally able to take a breather. Some of the cellular towers have been taken down, so that the possessed didn't have much resistance in purifying.

When taking a rest, I saw Ishimaru observing Sector 16, the sector we conquered prior to this mission. When I joined him, I watched the buildings magically fix themselves, standing up to their feet, as though someone wind back the time.

"This is impossible," I remarked.

"This is what the beacons do, reversing time and space in the sealed areas," Ishimaru explained, "however all of this actually break the rule of reality, Yuukai is cheating his way to stop the progress of this world," he seemed certain that all of Yuukai's doing is just to disturb the flow of time, but I see this as his way to overcome the curse.

"But there's a caveat from this 'technology', it couldn't bring back the dead," he added.
