The Noble Curse of Ookami
Feeding the Hatchling

Feeding the Hatchling

After dividing the remaining people who's willing to fight into two divisions, we then began to learn the techniques of doing our respective jobs. I was assigned to be the Jaegers, with Karito. It was kinda hard and easy at the same time, thanks to Koori, I've learned how to hold a sword properly. But because this was a real metal sword that I was holding, it felt different. Even though I knew how to use them, I was scared to actually use them. What if I missed, and I became vulnerable to enemies' attacks? What if instead of tearing off the darkness within people, I just slashed their bodies?

"This training requires a lot of focus and concentration. It's the pure intention of your soul that will free people from their misery," Raizen, the teacher of the Jaegers explained how to use the sword. Apparently, the swords are called the Zodiacs, because they can emit twelve different elements, unique to each user. The swords themselves are devoid of certain elements, only the soul of the users can determine their elements.

Raizen pointed at Karito to act as an example. He gripped his sword firmly, and swung it around. Soon, the blade of the sword began to glow a bright white light. As I and other soon-to-be Jaegers wondered what element that was, suddenly a nearby scraps come along and attracted to Karito's Zodiac. It was a metal or magnetic element, derived from Taurus, one of the earth-element zodiac signs. So technically, Karito's sword can be called a Taurus sword now. Anyway, some other Jaegers have tried to wield their respective swords, but most of them didn't have any element emitted from it.

Then I stepped up to wield mine.

A massive amount of adrenaline went through my blood. I felt like something epic was about to go down. Suddenly, my vision was better, I felt like I could sense a person from a mile away, and I felt amazing for a moment. It's like I have the power to do anything. But the sword didn't emit anything when I hold it, just like the majority of the Jaegers. Maybe it's because Karito was special, well, he was one of the leaders of the revolutionists, so that made sense.

Aside from training with Raizen, we've also trained in a duel among Jaegers.

"Shit!!" I spat out a swear when Karito slammed me into the ground. I lost my balance after I dodged his attacks, but he managed to charge and threw me down.

"Come on, don't hold back. Act like this was a life threatening situation," Karito offered me his hand, but back then I just wanted to prove myself, so I pulled myself together and stood up, and back in action.

I tried to punch him from left and right, but he managed to dodge all of my attacks at a blinding speed. I couldn't even see him moving so fast. Then I attempted to put more power into my last hit, but magically, he vanished.

"Concentrate," Karito suddenly reappeared behind me, and bonked my head. "I think we have to take a break for a moment," Karito sighed. Then he sat on a small stone on the ground. He seemed to show remorse from his expression.

Even before he said anything, I felt weirdly sympathetic to him. And he was about to tell me something.
