Fallen Feathers

Hours later, the mission was finally over. All teams reported that they had done their jobs, so we called back the choppers by setting up one special beacon that blasted light upwards, and returned to the school. Sector 35 finally cleared, and we finally made some progress.

As I left the city, I still felt uneasy, even though the area was sealed perfectly, I still had this feeling of sudden breach of the area. The darkness might find a way to breach the seal, moreover, I was still thinking about that powerful one. He was strange.

The Jaegers in my team, plus Rin, the Ora looked tired. I saw their gloomy expression over what had happened prior. Yuukai and other teachers greeted us in the main yard. Even though the mission was a success, I knew that from the look of the warriors' eyes, they were not satisfied. Medic team took out the injured from the choppers, and I saw Ishigaki step out of his chopper safely, but I didn't see Karito anywhere.

"Welcome back," Yuukai greeted us with a short speech, he looked at us, and noticed the exact expression on everyone's faces, "The mission was a success, even though some of you didn't make it back, we still value your fight against the darkness there."

The warriors had gloomy faces, from the fact that nearly half of us died immediately in this first mission. Yuukai then ordered us to rest, and wait for the next mission. To be fair, the school was different from, you know, a military camp. And I wasn't sure even until now, whether this school is better from normal school or not.

At nightfall, my team and I gathered around in the cafeteria. We talked about our past, and who we were. Kotetsu had a younger brother that got separated from him in the Great Search. His brother was different from him, he had an affliction. Kotetsu's brother was disabled, he had both of his legs broken, because of an accident when he was little. So he had to stay in a wheelchair, and yes, Kotetsu was always on his back to push him anywhere he wanted.

At some point between Yuukai's operation saving as many people as he could, Kotetsu was desperately trying to protect his brother, but as he said, "We couldn't run together,". Once again, I felt guilty listening to Kotetsu's story. This whole debacle wouldn't happen if I wasn't born.

Kazuki is also the oldest son in his family. In fact, his younger brother is here, on this island. His name is Hoshikawa, but he didn't choose to fight, and just lived on this island peacefully. But the same, can't actually be said to their relationship. Kazuki actually hated his brother, because of the imbalance in their parents' attention to both of them. I didn't know how true that was, but I just hoped that they would somehow make it out and be peaceful again.

Now about Rin, she didn't show up that night. We didn't know where she went, and didn't even see her anywhere. From the look of her eyes in the afternoon, I felt that she hated me, but that was just a guess. In the middle of our chit-chat, Ishigaki suddenly showed up and greeted us. I introduced Kotetsu and Kazuki to him, and as expected from him, he befriended them almost immediately. At that point, I felt like I was in a new family, we were like old friends immediately. It was nice.

But Ishigaki came with an unusual news, that an injured Jaeger wanted to see me. And it was a recommendation from Yuukai himself. Soon enough, we went to meet said Jaeger in the student health unit.

There he was, with his left leg bandaged and lifted up with a leg sling. Yuukai sat on a chair beside him. "Finally you all came," he greeted us. "Our friend here wanted to share something important with you, tell them, Yato,"

Yato described that as his team spread out and scoured the area, one of the Jaegers started to attack the rest of the team, and even killed three of them. Yato managed to defend himself, but got injured instead, after being slammed to one of the buildings. He said that he was lucky to not get slashed by the traitor's sword.

Then he described that someone came to save him in the middle of the fight. "He has bright silver hair. His movement was so quick, I couldn't even see him. He hunts down the traitor even outside the sector boundaries,"

"It was Karito, no doubt," Yuukai cuts in. "But the man he chased, I believed it was Yamato. He had brown hair, yellow eyes, and had a Virgo sword in his hands. His element was wood, he is very dangerous," he provided an insight on who the traitor was.

"But why did Yamato betray us?" Kotetsu asked.

"That's the interesting part," Yuukai began to answer..
