About a week later, Yuukai announced that everyone must undergo special training in order to be able to defeat the darkness. Some of us actually had high spirits in the idea of avenging the death of your family and friends, meanwhile some of us are pessimistic, so they denied everything Yuukai said. They were just happy to survive and stay in the rooms they were assigned to.
Yuukai didn't force them to join, because he knew the saviors would just join anyway. However, even starting from Karito, they behave in an unpredictable manner. I don't know how sure Yuukai was in communicating with the ancient spirits to take the country back. Maybe he had useful strategies to persuade them to work.
After I spent a week on this mysterious island, I felt comfortable enough. I started to sleep peacefully, knowing that my city was in jeopardy. I've befriended some from the initial hundred people Yuukai had saved. The first one was Ishigaki, he was an energetic boy, about the same age as me, but a bit younger. He apparently lived near the marketplace, and opened a fruit store with his mother. He loved his life, helping his mom from day to day, but now she's gone. He believed that she died from the Great Search.
I... felt guilty. Once again, if I wasn't born, then all of this could be avoided. Maybe today, in that alternate reality, Ishigaki would still be with his mother, talking and enjoying the night with them peacefully. Surprisingly, he was very kind, he said that fate is not ours to control. Every plan we have arranged, whether it will happen or not, is out of our control as humans. He said that even though we have a perfect plan for something, it will never be a hundred percent similar to what we've imagined.

I weirdly found comfort in his words. Even though we just met, I felt a strange familiarity towards him. Like I've met him before, but I don't have any recollection of it. Ishigaki and I soon became close friends, we often walk together and share our thoughts about the world and what was currently happening.
And one dusk, as we were walking along the roof, he said, "You know, I'd like to know if there's any way to stop the darkness without any violence. But... realizing the occurrences now, I think that's impossible," let that sink in, I don't know how pure his heart is, but fighting an evil force with non-violence sounds ridiculous.
The training days began, Yuukai explained to some 150 people who agreed to fight, including Karito, Ishigaki, and I about the origin of the darkness itself. He explained that darkness can only be forced out of someone's body by piercing or slashing the body with a specialized weapon.
He said that there's this magical steel that can be forged into swords. The sword will not draw blood from the possessed victims, it only will force their darkness out, and they will be unconscious for a while. After the darkness has been forced out of somebody, another method called 'sealing' must be done in order to prevent the same, or even other form of darkness to possess the same body again.
That's why Yuukai decided to divide us into two divisions. They are the Jaegers, the ones who hunt down the darkness within people and the Oras, who seal people's souls immediately after the darkness is forced out of them. This is getting more complicated than I thought it would be.
