Chapter 16

I never flew before, in both of my life's my feet never left the ground. So of course I'm terrifyid when the harpy took me with her. You probably remember that the average strider is 3m tall, yeah the average strider, I'm quite short ( 1,8m). Which means that she picked me up with relative ease and an uncanny swiftness.

She didn't kill me yet which would usually mean that she has kids, but then she wouldn't hunt so far away from home.

"You can stop acting, I know you're more than that."

Her words were unaffected by passing by wind, I wondered why. Only now I noticed that we came to a halt, unlike fool blood aviens harpies can hover in place thanks to a very complicated build of shoulder plates. Understanding every language is truly a blessing.

"H-how do you know?" I asked with shaky voice.

"You speak my language and know how to perfectly hide from me, that isn't normal."

Ah, she got me on the language part. And I guess my hiding spot wasn't something a normal strider would have done.

"So? That doesn't stop you from killing me?"

"I need your help, I'm dieing."

"What?"

"Let me show you."

She flew to fast for my eyes to take in the surrounding, especially with all this wind. Next thing I know my legs where in direct contact with precious ground. She brought me to an open field, a place where she has the turf advantage.

She was towering over me, which wasn't something that's hard to achieve. Her height didn't set me of(I'm used to it thanks to Freya), her feathers have an ethereal beauty that I can't appreciate in the moment, but her eyes. Her eyes are...empty. There's no light that guides in the dark, no fire of the soul, no hunger of a beast, not the wilderness of an animal, not even all consuming darkness. Those deep golden pupils with no irises have something luring about them.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

She opened her mouth and bent down, for a moment I thought she would take a bite out of me. There was something in her mouth and once I could see it I grabbed her chin. I moved her head so that I could get a better look, she complied, and truly, there where black veins running from the roof and walls in her mouth like worms under her skin. I touched one of the veins, she flinched.

"If you can feel them then it's to late."

"Isn't there anything you can do?"

Her voice had a hint of despair in it but she stayed mostly strong.

"Why would I help you, what would I get in return?"

"So you can."

Fuck! Another blunder, I'm used of being surrounded by idiots.

"If you don't, I'll eat you."

Her statement was colder than ice and it sent a shiver down my spine.

"I don't have the materials, I would need a flower with petals as black as a moonless night that only grow in the heart of swamps."

"You're lying."

"How did you know?!"

"You just told me."

FUCK! She's good, she might not have the superior intellect but she's definitely wiser than me.

"I can lead you to my swarm, our leader can cure you with my help."

"And why wouldn't you lead me there just to kill me?"

"I-I can bait our leader to leafe the swarm." My voice shaky and a big hint of fear was sitting on it.

She looked like as if she wad thinking and then she looked me in the eyes.

"Why wouldn't you just hide in your swarm?"

"Because you can kill us one by one." Dam, I'm a better actor than I thought. I have already lost the fear of death, it would be an inconvenience but nothing more.

"Fine"

That was her only reply before we took of to the skies again. I will definitely not get used to this.

...

After I'm not sure how long I could feel soil beneath me again and all of the sudden there was a lot of weight on my carapace. I looked back and saw my kidnapper kneeling on my carapace her folded wings covered her upper body and her feathers had a unexplainable beauty about them.

"Lead"

Was all she said and all she needs to say.

----------------------------------------

Somewhere in the forest where light doesn't reach something was happening there was 'something'. 'Something' saw another thing, what was it? A moth, the other thing was a mother. And so 'something' decided to be 'moth' but it, no, she felt that it wasn't enough. No, limbs to grab, yes, that's what she needs. Her body morphed into a thousand forms with the limbs of a sentient and a moth until she settled to only keep the wings and fluff of the moth. Since she already settled on the other part being sentient it didn't take long until she found a form she was comfortable in. She looked like a common fairy but she had no color only black and white, she wore a dress made of moth silk.

And thus a fairy of darkness was born
