I am.
This feeling.
It's the moment of birth.
I could struggle to break out of this egg.
But my instincts tell me not to, I wouldn't survive.
I shouldn't be awake, it's too early.
I questioned my instincts how long it had been since my egg had been laid.
It has been minutes.
Why am I conscious?
I question my instincts about it.
I...don't know. Wait why am I also sentient?
Don't ask me, I'm more lost than you.
This is bad, this is unnatural. I'm scared.
Scared? Don't be, just do what you're meant to, make sure I survive.
Yes I will, but what if this was caused by outside influence?
Then we believe they're lies and plan.
Plan for what.
Whatever comes at us.
Besides what am I.
Oh, your a Arachnid egg.
Arachnid? Then an image of a female with four clawed hands and the lower body of a spider.
So I will grow to be like that?
Can't tell, you might become a strider instead, the opposite gender.
What's this feeling I feel?
It's excitement, you want a body and do things.
You're right, how long will it take me to hatch?
About 5 months.
...Is that long?
For you, yes.
Can I do anything?
You shouldn't be able to, but you already broke three of nature's laws, so go ahead.
I don't have a head yet fool. I then tried to do something, to no avail. No matter how much I concentrate on something nothing, until.
You did not just.
Did I do something?
You just moved anima.
Anima?
Look, I will try to explain it but it's not a part of survival so I'm lacking.
This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Alright.
Anima is produced and absorbed by all living things, much like air. Unlike mana it isn't energy but more like a material. Every being is born with the ability to manipulate mana, some better than others. However a being has to use mana to manipulate anima and therefore cause a effect, like creating fire or moving water. But you, you can manipulate anima but not mana.
So did I do something wrong?
No and that's the problem. Its outside of our control.
So shouldn't we try to figure out how to use it?
Yes but if we truly become a strider then we will be more sought after.
More?
The sentient races see striders as a boon, because of they're high quality silk and paralysing venom which can be used in many ways and most importantly their docile nature.
An Arachnid might tear one apart because you looked at her wrong. A strider won't touch anyone who isn't a threat.
And people usually trade food for the silk and the venom (if there's an interested alchemist). And being able to use anima, I don't think they just want to trade.
How do you know of all this?
I..don't know.
Besides, me explaining things to you really made time pass.
What so you mean?
A month and a half passed.
Wha-! How?
Ah, it seems you already developed shock. Anyways you don't have a brain or anything really, so that's how long it took me to explain it to you.
Would you explain, why anima makes a strider so much more precious than a average strider?
Again my knowledge about anima is barely existent, so I can't answer. But maybe you should keep on training your anima, might give us better chances.
Alright thats what I do now. I then moved as much anima as I can and moved them in a circular motion through my egg. What makes you special.
Then my not-fully-but-soon-will-be body started to change.
This isn't normal but neither am I, what where you trying to do?
I wanted to know what made it special.
Usually I would tell you to stop, but Usually I wouldn't be sentient so keep on going.
And I kept on going.
----------------------------------------
Meanwhile in the outside
Aerya checked on the batch of eggs which the queen laid roughly two months ago. That's when she noticed it, one of the eggs which exactly looks like all the other eggs.
It was circulating anima, which was a one in Billion chance. And not only was it born with the ability to manipulate anima instead of mana but it still has to hatch.
A grin found its way on her face and her plan started to form.
If the queen found out she would make this one the direct heir of the throne bet it arachnid or strider.
But if Aerya was to switch this one with one of her own, if it becomes a Arachnid she could raise it to make the queen pale in comparison.
And if it becomes a strider, her grin grew to touch both her ears, then he'll be so precious Kings and Queens would fight over him.
But I have to prepare, she then walked back out of the room, she then looked over her shoulder and her grin somehow grew.
"I'll be back, soon"
----------------------------------------
Wha-whats this, what is this I feel?
It's fear, something is going on outside.
Nothing we can do about it?
Nothing we can do about it.
Then I had a idea, what if I...
I absorbed all the anima in my egg into my not-fully-but-soon-will-be body.
I'm not even surprised at this point.
You can be surprised?
Apparently so, why do you have to be like this.
Because I have to be ready.
For what?
Everything.
I then made streams of anima that flowed into my not-fully-but-soon-will-be body in a spiraling motion, a steady stream is a good stream.
Oh, what now?
Preparations.
----------------------------------------
Meanwhile outside (again)
Aerya snuk one of her own eggs with her as she entered. The guards don't seem to notice it.
Once no one could notice her, her grin reappeared.
"I'm back~" she said it in a playful manner as she walked closer to her target.
Once in Arms reach she stretched out a hand which was covered in black citing. But before she could reach it...
"Ahem!" "Iiiikkk!"
Aerya let out a high pitched yelp, as the worst possible outcome for her plays out.
She turns around, with fear in hear stomach and panic in her eyes.
There stood Queen Atzul, with all her four arms crossed and an expecting look In her eyes.
"Any excuses" her voice dominated the room and a good piece of the outside as well.
"Q-Queen Atzul, its a surprise to see you here, your highness." Her voice stuttered and was filled with fear.
Atzul's gaze narrowed on the woman infront of her.
"Why haven't you told me that one of my eggs can use anima?" She asked ignoring whatever Aerya might or does say, her ears fall deaf.
"A-ah i-i-i-ts b-because-" Atzul raised a hand to silence her.
With a voice filled with cold rage Atzul spoke again "I hereby sentence you to life in prison!"
